SWAT Training Week 3-4

Im from chicago and i want to join Chicago SWAT after my service in the coast guard. Any tips??

@lovefrompraha Not nececarally. The SWAT force is highly trained in S&R, hostage situations, riots, bomb threats, and even terrorists. Im not saying the U.S. Army doesn't train in that, but the SWAT Force does. Hope this helps!

This looks ALOT like my selection process into SWAT. Climbing up ropes, 6-foot walls, 8-foot walls, running in gear and gas masks, more running, push-ups, MORE running, and shooting under stress....then you get to run some more. Then if you make the cut, then you get trained to become an operator. IT SUCKS!!! But if i had to, i would do it all over again because there is a great deal of pride and brotherhood being involved with teams like these.

As far as I know, yes. I doubt there's any state without more then a few SWAT teams.

How old is too old for SWAT? I'm 17 I plan on college for 4 years doing AF ROTC, joining the Air Force for 4 years (Law Enforcement/Security Forces), then becoming a civilian cop working my way up to SWAT. By the time I become a civilian cop I should be about 28 and I'll obviously be a cop for a few years. So how old are SWAT members normally?

Apples and oranges really. Many in SWAT tend to be ex military anyway, so it's just additional training for them.

@TheMudbug15 Well, for my particular region, I'm pretty sure the "requirements" are you HAVE to start off as a police officer on the road etc. and after a while you may be offered the chance by your cheif. You also need to be tazered to have a tazer...and yes, females can join.

Only you can answer that, mainly because it depends on what YOU really want. To earn the trident you will face the some of the most challenging training in the world, but if you do earn it you will be part of one of the most elite and highly respected military units in the world. As a SEAL you serve your country. As an officer you will your community. Both are highly admirable fields of work. I personally have chosen to serve my community but I will always wonder "what if I went?" Good luck.

Navy Seals are a crazy commitment and I don't advice it if you have a partner you have a hard time being without. Swat is really cool to but I guess it is closer to being a job in my opinion. And Remember, your employer isn't always right

Both are very dangerous. I myself would love to be part of a SWAT team though. Main reason is that I've always been interested in law enforcement. Now im going to college for a degree in criminal justice/law enforcement and in two years hope to get on with a police or sheriff department somwhere

@surfingUSA09 ehh depends military is a great choice for the discipline and you can get the physical and mental training through any branch, once you finished your time in the military going out for swat will be like high school gym class. Navy seals is a great choice mainly because basics will beat the brakes off of you. I would say marine just for the close quarter and weapons training, plus you will come out with some muscle. Just some thoughts.

cus i heard when your in police you have to like...bid against other people to get into swat so they pretty much pick the best people so would learning martial arts help or anything else i should do when im young?? what about college?

There is no one subject, cops may have all manner of different degrees. However, most common to those knowing they are going into law enforcement is often a degree in criminal justice or similar degree. Good luck.

Become SWAT? The simple answer is: join police force, then apply to SWAT. Long answer: talk to your local PD perhaps for details. Good luck!
