You hold down Tab, in creature creator you can also hold Ctrl+Click a limb to drag it off, or hold alt+click to copy it

the space ship you make to explore the galaxy is kinda big, if you ally aliens you can get a ship from them to join your fleet and they are a bit smaller but really big, I dont think so
