ha, it seems also to me, that there are The Chieftans playing
I remember listening to that song in the eighties, when I hardly knew where Ireland was; some years later I fell in love with Irish music, and The Ch-s are one of my fauvorites... And now I find them here :-)
I really loved Ultra vox back in the 80's they had a great message. Highly under rated band... "All fall down" is a very truthful and moving tuneIt can bring one to tears...
Finally founded after years which past since I've had heard this for first and only time. Only few sounds that stayed in my ears and words "all fall down".
we should all listen to this songs lyrics. and we should make our "leaders " listen to it. maybe it'd make them think twice about using war as a means to an end.
"And what will you do when you've pulled the release, and the sound of the thunder has drowned out the plea's, cos' after all, that was your idea of peace..." - classic lyrics.
It's not as bad as I remember. I think Ultravox were a little late to the party with the whole anti-nuke thing. Didn't they do better with Dancing With Tears In My Eyes?
The whole "U-Vox" project was doomed, the way Warren Cann was ousted was disgraceful, and the finished album sounded like Big Country b-sides. Who calls their big comeback single "Same Old Story" anyway?!
Yeah, how Warren was thrown out for Midge's solo drummer seemed kinda unwholesome to me. Though even if he had stayed, there woulda only been a couple decent songs on the album.
It's hard to believe that the album and single flopped commercially. Almost too good to believe that Chrysalis/EMI finally decided to release the definitve editions. Hopefully the albums »Lament« & »U-Vox« see the light of the world soon again as well. Today, »All Fall Down« hast the same impact for me, as it had in 1987. Beautiful and thoughtful piece. And yes, The Chieftains were the right choice for this one.
You have got to be joking surely ? The rest of the band don't even play on it. The music's not that bad (though hardly Ultravox) but the lyrics show that Band Aid had given Midge a severe case of Bono-itis.
I saw the video for this song once when i was around 8 years old in like 1986 or 87, anyways it stuck in my head up until I saw it on youtube. i think its crazy how the main riff in the chorus has lasted in my head all those years.
this was on the albulm uvox as warren the drummer left the band and left midge ure (lead volcalist) billy (keybords)and chris cross (guitar). Brilliant band and I am so glad they are reuniting this year.
i just discovered this band and what really called my attention is the fact that they had something to say, they have a ´´Message´´.I am just 24 and i wonder myself what is the message our modern bands have for us,i can´t find any, or it is just because we are an empty generation that we need empty songs .
Definitely! The music that Midge has written in recent years quite often has a message to it. I honestly think his song writing got better after the band broke up.
I am 41 and let me tell you, there are still bands today with a message. Have a look at Marillion or the Editors for instance. You are not an empty generation. This is just what some multi players might try to push upon you for quick business. I do know a couple of people your age and I do have trust in them for future. So I trust in you, as you should. That is your generation and it is not empty, as YOU do fill it with sense and future visions!
Magnifique cruelle réalité de toujours, la conclusion de cette scène de fin est irrémédiablement sans équivoque! Ultravox nous transporte dans ce qui est appelé un cantine de défunt de tout un peuple : l'humanité.
Great post, love this song, probably their best lyrics in my opinion - perfectly backed up by The Chieftains. Taken from the same album as 'Same Old Story' - 'U-Vox' (1986)
Great band, great singer, if the song is underappreciated, what does that make Midge? ......SIR Midge Ure anyone?
'Infact no graves at all' top song poignant at the time. Maybe still is. What are they looking at? Maybe midge's mum is on her way back from making the sarnies.
How to let the band know you have taken over and are now about to dump them? Record a song with another band completely and let the members of your band have a part in the video!!!! Brilliant song, though.
To me it is hard to believe that even with beautiful songs like this, exposing this problem, and others like The wall, exposing the war thing, nothing changes much. It seems we are condemned to always live with violence.
la cancion es buena pero...esto no es ultravox,es midge ure en solitario firmado como ultravox.el resto de la banda esta de adorno.¿que queda aqui de rage in eden o vienna?
i love ultravox,i love this song(and live version is beatifull)i love this video.i like john fox era and midge ure era...but last u-vox lp...bufff!!(sorry but my inglis is bat)

If I'm not mistaken, that's The Chieftans playing the instruments in the background along with the band. Very cool! I never knew that.

İt is different than the other Ultravox songs, because of Migde Ure. It's a protest song, the video perfectly states his vision.
Midge Ure thought that it was time to do a song different than what we used to do, to grap the attention of the listeners.
