Aint those replacement pickups on the SG? They`re usually chrome covers or no covers at all !!....!Just wondered! Peace Ye`all !! PS ! Loving these riffs ! Have to check out the band !Peace Ye`all !!!
Great videos, but unfortunately the tone on the guitars is absolutely abysmal, and the guy with a guitar doesn't know how to play at all. I still watched through your guitar series though, expected the tone to improve but it didn't.
I think that the guitars would have a LOT more tonal difference if the amp weren't a Line 6. Those things color the sound a LOT! I noticed a huge difference playing store guitars with different pickups/woods through the tube amps. Unfortunately, I have 1 normal guitar, and 1 fretless so the video would be kinda pointless.
my 2 Ibanez guitars have such a difference in tone, but ive only noticed this when using my new amp. My Jem has a higher pitch tone, the lows are very clearly defined aswell. However my RG350 has very muddy lows, great for chuggy metal. I think these difference are more noticeable with tube amps though
Good video. You definitely want to take single coil pickups into account. You'll get a much different sound. The Epiphone looked like it had active pickups, which employ a 9V battery and, often, additional EQing onboard the guitar.
Additionally, there are other factors that will affect the tone just in relation to the guitar. Maple fretboards, as opposed to rosewood or ebony, are generally brighter. Hollowbody guitars, as opposed to solidbody guitars, offer a more mellow sound.
(Continued) Even the wood itself can affect it. Harder woods (maple and ash) will often sound brighter while more porous woods will sound more mellow.
Strings can even have a huge impact on the tone. Heavier strings they will carry and the fatten the midrange.
Oh, and don't forget to look at out-of-phase pickup configurations, like you would find on a Strat in the 2 and 4 positions. Coil splitting is another area to explore.
No problem. By the way, I really appreciate all of these videos. I'm probably above the target audience for the guitar info, but I'm WELL below the "expert" level on your Reason videos, so keep those up. I learn a lot every time! Thanks again!

nice tutorial, few things though.
a)Sell the line6, get the amp you simulate most, you'll love the actual sound.
b)You sound like you borrowed the guitars, also sell em and get one that suits your riffing.

This is a bad tutorial. You use use the bridge pickup for rhythmic playing awhile using the neck for more "expressive" playing.

that riff is core bullshit, not metal. i cant stand that garbage.
and get a good guitar for fucks sake, these 2 guitars are garbage. get a jackson soloist and a real sg and keep em STOCK

No apologies needed! Half the reason I made these videos was to learn myself :)
I'll know more things to research when I come to making some more educated tutorials later on thanks to your suggestions! :D
