  • hello , arizona ??

  • How many more doctors will we need to be remembered to this song? Something needs to be done about the crazed anti fanatics. I hate every single one of them.

  • This song alone is incredibly powerful, but your editing is very good and really drives it home. And I think it's very poignant at the current political climate. Thank you!

  • @gayaudigali

You are one sick ignorant fuck. People like you are repugnant.

  • I am going to write about this violent atrocity on my blog......no one in the UK knows about this, Not enough people know about this. The truth needs to be said. About these evil murderous bastards.

The world will know what "pro life" really stands for = MURDER

  • I wondered what the comments for this video would like, after Sunday. I'm really touched.

  • RIP, Dr. Tiller.

Maybe it's time we stop screwing around and call the good-for-nothing People of God what they are: domestic terrorists. Let's send a few of these bastards to Guantanamo Bay and see if the Lord frees them.

  • @fileboy2002 amen amen amen

  • Thank you Dr. Tiller

  • I love you Ani.

  • once again hate rears it's ugly head and

attacks love. The haters like O'reily & limbaugh belong in the dock for inciting this killing.

Free speech ends when it incites violence.

Thanks Ani. You could not have captured the truth any more beautifully.

  • Rest in peace, Dr. Tiller.

  • Only three doctors in the country will perform late term abortions.

  • RIP Dr. Tiller may your legacy live on and give others the courage and fortitude to continue to the fight for the rights of our girls and women.

    Beautiful song and video.

  • RIP Dr. Tiller. Thank you for your commitment to women and your bravery for living under threat of death for so long.

  • RIP Dr. George Tiller

  • Don't know what to say - just that this song is unspeakebly sad and beautiful.

  • this song helps me write...

  • That is one of the best videos that incorporates a song that I've EVER seen. I really enjoyed it and am so excited for what's in store for this country. I don't feel so powerless anymore!

  • Thanks! I really appreciate your comment! I am also excited to see what's in store for our country! I am hopeful for a restoration of the U.S. to our prominence in the world without fighting. OBAMA/BIDEN '08!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey - I live in Birmingham and I'm pro-life / against abortion... the bombing was wrong and terrible... your video is great, I like the song a lot, too - not all pro-lifers are nuts like Eric Rudolph - we should make our voices heard in thru the voting booth not thru violence. Birmingham and Buffalo have a lot of parallels... I love this city and yet I hate it, too...

  • What an amazing video!! Ani is wonderful and you really brought a nice sense of visual history to accompany her powerful words. Many kudos!!! =)

  • Thanks!!!!! Your comment is greatly appreciated!!!

  • i think this is a beautiful & moving video, great job. i am a huge ani fan, and am from birmingham, so i know the way things are here, still. music is all about what it means to each individual, this is what it meant to you! (even if it had other origins originally)

love the Obama at the end! keep doing what you feel.

  • Thank you! I really appreciate your comment! It is really good to have somebody from Birmingham give their perspective on this video. I wish you the best, and don't worry I will continue to do what I feel. Thanks again!

  • The abortion clinic that was blown up in Birmingham was done by Eric Rudolph from North Carolina. Birmingham TODAY is considered a progressive city and quite liberal. The bombing was a terrible thing. A guard was killed there and one of the workers lost an eye. Eric Rudolph was found eating out of a dumpster and is now in jail. Birmingham is going to be just fine.

  • I agree completely! Thanks for your comment!

  • You did a good job with this video, but this song is chiefly about abortion and the murder of Dr. Barnett Slepian by James Kopp in Buffalo. As a native Buffalonian, this song affects me so much...just the horror of it. Buffalo is so riddled with problems, the violence here just one thing...we are one of the most segregated cities in the US, so the allusion to Birmingham is effective, as is the juxtaposition of racism to Christian radicalism.

  • WOW! You really opened my eyes with your comment! I had no idea about the background info to this song. I honestly thought it was basically about segregation in Birmingham during the 1960's. I'll try next time to research my information more wholly. Anyways, I really appreciate your comment and knowledge and I hope your New Year has been amazing! Au Revoir!

  • Not at all! Sorry my comment posted so many times!

Ani DiFranco is likewise a native Buffalonian, so many of her songs do deal with problems specific to Buffalo, but she always puts it in a more universal context.

If you want to look at Ani on racial segregation, check out "Subdivision"--it is most specifically about segregation in Buffalo, "the city of good neighbors" but she also applies it to the nation as a whole.

  • Completely agree. I also grew up in Buffalo and remember the confllicts in the early 90s over abortion. Every day it dominataed the headlines. I teach this song (and other Ani stuff) in my English class in CT and the kids are amazed and quite moved by it.

  • Do you present other opinions or do you simply indoctrinate with your point of view?

  • Good of you to ask, since it can be a bit of a soapbox. I like to think I teach critical thinking as a result of presenting a variety of viewpoints and opinions, then let the students discuss/analyze, etc.

  • I like this video quite a bit as a native Buffalonian. I love my city, bu it is so crippled by segregation and poverty and such hatred. Hello Birmingham eludes to the segregation issue, but it's chiefly talking about abortion, and the murder of Dr. Barnett Slepian by James Kopp. Dr. Slepian was an OBGYN who performed abortions, and Kopp was a Christian fundamentalist who killed Slepian in the name of God. It was a horrific incident, and one that took a toll on the Buffalonian psyche.
