  • When you sound smart but say ridiculous things, you're either a reiligious type fanatic, a con man, or....I'm just guessing here...you're mentally ill. Hit like if milkmusic78 sounds like the latter to you.

  • @terrybeaton Now you're showing your true colors. You're just a kid in need of attention. I should have known with all the misspellings and bad grammar...oh well, live and learn. Keep practicing the guitar, my little friend. Your ears can improve if your pride will allow it.

  • @milkmusic78 Punk.

  • I have played for years on the road and occasionaly in the studio. You can't tune vocals with that much nuance. Listen VERY cosely and you will hear that great singers are always "shading and shaping" notes in such a way as precludes any auto tuning. It's would be like using sand paper on a Ming dynasty vase to improve it. Listen CLOSELY...and stop talking.

  • @terrybeaton Nonsense. It's doubtful you're even a musician. A good road player can hear what you aren't able to hear. The good news is, if you keep working at it, if you have some ability to begin with, you'll hear it as well. Good luck with the learning process.

  • @milkmusic78 Liar!

  • Hahaha, what's a "road player"? Seriously, your lying undermines your credibility. You're a hopeless "Iconoclast." Check out the definition. You fit it to a Tee. Stop being such a punk.

  • So sad that they use auto-tune on Alison. Such a beautiful voice. PLEASE stop ruining it with over-the-top tuning. But then I suppose they feel they have to to match every other country artist on the radio today. It's all tuned so hard that many have come to accept that tuned sound as the actual sound of the human voice. Play music from the 60's or 70's to hear what the human voice actually sounds like when it's not tuned, if there is any doubt in your mind.

  • @milkmusic78 I guess everybody is allowed a few dumb comments. But now that you've made your first one, you've only got two left!

  • @terrybeaton - I prefer to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're saying these things to "protect Alison's honor" or something similar, which might be a noble gesture, but it can't turn an apple into an orange. Go to any major recording studio in your city and find somebody with great ears, and you'll hear the truth - they tune her vocals. The sad and maddening part is, she doesn't need to sound like every other pop and country singer - her voice is incredible without tuning it.

  • @milkmusic78 Now yoyu only have one left!

  • Flawless.

  • Pretty good cover.

  • If not the best, one of the best altos in the industry. Now, and for a long time. Love you Alison.

  • And finally, I read Steve Millikan's article and he is talking third hand.

AK has been known to be a perfectionist and that means she will work a vocal in the studio until she gets it the way she wants it, not that uses auto tune.

  • P.S. AKUS produce their own records and are hands-on through engineering and mastering while Rounder Records is hands-off.

So the fact that you, milkmusic78, have used auto-tune on hundreds of vocals is not something you should be proud of.

  • milkmusic78: Here are the facts since I have worked on a number of AKUS projects and have ears, AK would NEVER tolerate use of vocal auto tuning. All of you 'sound professionals' on youtube don't know what you are talking about period.

  • @TheDAllev Nothing could be further from the truth. All anyone has to do is listen to records that were made by great singers 30, 40 years ago - and then listen to the records made today. Everything pop and country is tuned today. Even McCartney in New York live this year was heavily tuned - as were all the backing vocals. McCartney? McCARTNEY? That REALLY made me angry. If you had told me 10 yrs ago McCartney would allow that, I would have laughed you out of the room. They're killing the music.

  • @milkmusic78 Hi. I think you're right that a LOT of singers especially the young ones use auto-tune. However, I don't think this perf is auto-tuned. Alison Krauss has a very particular vibrato. It's on the fast side of normal. She strips it out of her voice often because she sings a lot of harmony. You can't match voices and have tight harmonies with the vibrato in there because everyone has different vibrato speeds. She drives into the pitch and sets it when she sings in harmony.

  • The phrase "pitch-perfect" comes to mind. And to watch her sing at you with those big, blue eyes is just hypnotic. She's a siren. And yet, such a down-to-earth country girl. Love her!

  • What's up with all the ignorant people thinking that AKUS uses pitch changing technology? They don't even run their instruments through an electronic pedals or anything, why would they voice through them? People are oblivious to the talent that actually exists.

  • Perfect pitch? Probably, don't know. But the pitch perfection here is electronic, not human. I promise, having used auto-tune on hundreds of vocals.

Great article on auto-tune and Alison at stevemillikan dott comm, scroll down.

  • @milkmusic78 Are you retarded?

  • @sparkliepinkk I'm a music producer, by vocation. Use auto-tune on basically all my artists. Know exactly what it sounds like and what it does.

  • @milkmusic78 Don't be dumb.

  • @sparkliepinkk You're ignorant - in the good sense of the word. You lack knowledge of the things you speak of. This is not a disputable matter. It is not in question. Ask any seasoned engineer or producer that has "ears" and they will confirm what I'm saying. A lot of pros are quite unhappy about the what gets done to Alison's voice on many of her projects. I understand it's not a pleasant thought, but it's the unvarnished truth.

  • @milkmusic78 I've heard her live. It's not auto-tune. Some singers are just that amazing.

  • @milkmusic78 But the way, did you know that Alison is the producer on all of their last six albums. She herself, I guess, is the "they" that is doing this. AK has 26 grammies. Half of those are for producing. Many of those are for producing AKUS albumns. You need to fix your story a bit to account for some facts! You just been punked! Punk.

  • she is KILLING me. love this song

  • Thank you for sharing this. 'Tis a gift that Alison Krauss and Union Station give us. The kind that speaks so directly and so beautifully. A voice and musicians who whose craft moves our hearts and speaks directly to our spirits!

  • Yep, Maybe

  • This is perfect. Live music has never sounded this good before and probably will never sound this good again. These people are amazing.

  • His backup vocal is so matched to her lead. What total pros these players all are.

  • moaventtoch (means: superfreaking fantastic in westflemish ;-)

  • This song haunts my soul .................

  • I just want to thank God for allowing this angel to walk with us...

  • My favorite Alison Kraus song!

  • can]r get better than this... perfection pure...

  • Absolute goosebumps. Magic.

  • If ya could hear the angels sing their voices must sound like hers.

  • Shit Alison's voice is just spot on and as clear as can be

  • Love that high, lonesome sound.

  • the best voice in music hands down!

  • Gives me the bumps. Absolutely stunning.

  • Six musicians right at the top of their game. Popular music doesn't get better than this.

  • It's amazing vocal - sublime harmony... and this is the calm. Cool musicians.

  • This is just beautiful, Kris Allen just added this to his playlist

  • Comment removed

  • THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE ANGELS SING LIKE. ALSO THE BAND...WOW.

  • Simply sublime - on every level. AK & Union Station all have great ability on their respective instruments (including vocals), but their technical skills are all put to the noble use of making exquisite, beautiful music. Bravo!

  • I can't help but drag up an old buried memory of me sitting with my elbows on that cold formica table in a dark kitcher at 2 am with a half empty bottle of George Dickel staring me down and feeling about as low as a man possibly can. I'm guessing half the people in this country have done the same thing. This is the song that should have been playing in my head. Hank Williams wasn't bad mind you, but it should have been this.

  • I have never heard a singer/musician mated to a better band.

  • She has the most perfect and flawless voice I think of anyone in music today. I don't like all of her songs, but I can't deny her her is magical. I do love this song, though.

  • The most incredible voice with the most awesome band, perfection indeed!

  • This is wonderful performance and of coarse she is amazing, her voice is so beautiful...!!!!!!.I like this song a lot....fantastic voices harmonies and the band is just perfect!!!.

It is a pleasure to listen this quality of music....!!!! Great!!

    Nancy~

  • i have been lucky to see alison in

a very small event-it was amazing!!

    her voice touches your soul!!!!!!!!

  • This is about as close to perfection as a live performance can get. And, considering the instruments and harmonies involved, there is no margin for error (as is the case with overly amp'ed up bands). AMAZING!!!!!!!!! A true American treasure!

  • absolutely correct; fantastic perfect!!!!

  • I agree with you - the whole performance was AMAZING - thank you for sharing such a beautiful song

  • I just saw this performance last nite on our local PBS station and this lady is SO GREAT--what a voice.

  • Splendid! Allison's voice is so pure!

Lyrics are excellent - video footage is

    wonderful. Great harmonies. Love this!

    Excellent rating.

  • Thanks for posting this tune!!! Fantastic harmony!!

  • OMG!!! I finally found it!!! I heard her sing this song on TV a while ago, and I couldn't remember what it was called... I just absolutely LOVE the harmony. It's like their singing to my soul. Absolute beauty......

  • Thank you Shawn for reminding of this beautiful song. GBU!

  • I've seen her in concert many times, best live shows I've EVER HEARD!! Great voice, great harmonies, awesome musicians all around, simply THE BEST!! Saw her with ROBERT PLANT most recently, WOW I'm still in awe . . . .

  • She's great and she seems to be able, somehow to stay human!

  • This girl, this girl is awesome, and that when she isn't with Union Station, and when she gets with Union Station, she becomes the prettiest voice and music that I have ever heard. I heard her first about 20 some years ago, been a fan ever since.

  • Fantatic HQ vid!! This song was miked for a perfect performance. Just when you think Alison & US could'nt sound or look any better, BINGO, here is the proof that perfection can be improved.

  • Of course she has a beautiful voice but the rest of the group did a great job harmonizing with her..

  • You know it's a sick jam if you respond physically to the sound.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! Took me a while to find =DD

  • Awesome...and she gets hotter as she gets older.

  • Wonderful harmony, Awesome!!!!!!

  • see that was it

  • AKUS own the planet

  • Much Applause to Alison Krauss and the Union Station...awesome performance..and, thank you host for the auesome post!

  • i know the exeact feeling driod 740!

  • blue grass hs always been such a pleasue,im 26 from CT, but as singer i can teLL you her crisp voice$ obscure yet gjostly harmonies pulled me in and i was hooked ak& us dont ever go amay

  • Alison's vocals are just as smooth as Tennessee whisky. Amazing.

  • best female voice in country./bluegrass period.

  • if you love youtube, boycott wmg!

  • I love how Dan gets into the rock stance during Jerry's solo. this has always ben my favorite AKUS song and always will be....its just so beautifully heartbreaking!!

  • I want that drummers job so I can listen to all of them play and sing. Once I got the job I would quit because I wouldn't feel like I was equally contributing. It would be a difficult week

  • alison krauss is amazing, i love this song!

  • Top notch. There is nothing more to say.

  • When i was about 8 or 9 I would sing in the school choir, and when I heard correctly sung harmonies I felt like I do when I hear these guys sing. Something to do with proof of God.

  • gives me chillbumps :)

  • Jerry will ALWAYS be the best!

  • wow!

  • im a fan of great vocals,no matter what gen're, but i never heared a voice so simply --beautiful-it forever changes my standards she is a revalation.

  • you can't imagine how great it is to hear this kind of comment from an "outsider": I've listened to bluegrass and Alison Krauss nearly all my life, and I do listen to other musical genres, but I've never come across a vocalist as amazing as Alison. Her vocal ability, range, taste, timing, grace, power and sheer beauty are just about as good as it gets. So thanks for sharing your appreciation !

And by the way HiHo44,I totally agree with you, Jerry Douglas's solo on this one is amazingly good!

  • I imagine this is what angels will sound like.

  • @kiknthballs I agree completely! Its not a bluegrass thing, its a matter of amazment to any musician to hear her. Every single female vocalist suffers because she exists, and shes hot too. Im pretty sure God himself form AKUS.

  • If that don't give you chills, go lay down somewhere 'cause you is dead!

  • yes, you is.

  • lol ur right about that.

  • The voice of an angel. Perfect as always and my continued favorite singer!

  • i like this live performance. even the record version. allison's voice is still thesame as good as before.

  • That is what I meant. They are all absolutely flawless in their performance and delivery.

  • flawless. absolutely amazing!

  • Wow. Those effortless glides in pitch and volume.

  • And this is live, without any studio tricks. She must have perfect pitch, as I have never heard Alison sing a bad note. Flawless describes her voice well, but also describes all six Union Station musicians.

  • Yep. But I like the direction she is moving with RP. I like seeing her expand her universe (while keeping her roots). Man, the crescendos she hits with RP are earth-shattering...

  • Not trying to be a wise guy here at all.

Perfect Pitch is being able to hear a note and identify what note it is or sing a note without reference or help from an instrument. What I think you meant was that Alison Krauss sings perfectly in tune. And on that 'note' we agree.

    Stunning performance.
