@bumblebee38. Sorry, but you're only partly right... and definitely absolutely wrong to say I'm wrong. You're right that they sound scratchy because they were played and played. But 's also because of the cheap vinyl they used to press what was considered "off market." That's why "mainstream" 78 rpm records from the 1930s don't sound as scratchy after a similar (or more) numbers of play. It's not about the recording. It's about the money the record companies were willing to spend on pressings.

This not correct Those were recorded By THE PARAMOUNT company and wree played and played and played .Very few copies survived
