Man I'm 47 years old and I can remember me and my mom watching this together when I was like 5 or 6 it's some great memories I really can't remember a bad time with my mom she was so cool.
LOL i saw a promo of this on a VHS tape of an anime called The Flower Angel. All I can say is ''LION KING'' because it looks identical to the Lion King EXCEPT the lions white
@ilovemcyankooIdjdeny It would be good if someone would make a Croatian dub. I know it was shown there in English (the 1993 dub, without the original music). I don't know who would be willing to make a Croatian version.
@ilovemcyankooIdjdeny I'm gonna make u some little corrections but it has no bad intention. It's just for you to improve:
Kimba is a girl, therefore its like HER dad (if she was a boy it would be "his", instead of he's). Since you are referring to both her and her dad, they are plural - thus they work along with "were" (not was)
Afterwards you are talking about a probability: that is "could" instead of "can" its not the right context to use it this way.
@RHalford92 I am not sure what you are responding to, but I can assure you that Kimba/Leo is definately a Male lion. He mets and falls in love with a Lioness named Kitty and meets his sister Leona later in the series
I soo loved Kimba in the 70s! I know a lot of these shows were shown in the 60s in the northern hemisphere, but down under we got them later and on repeat for years!! Not complaining though Thank you :D (now to find Prince Planet...)
in his later works like Astro Boy and Hi no Tori (Phoenix/Space Firebird) and that it stays true to Jungle Taitei , the original series. At the very least , Osamu Tezuka should have been given postmortem credit for inspiration and to his series Kimba which inspired it if not a percentage of the money to Tezuka Prod.
Disney had admitted they did worng, why didn't they correct it and put a simple few words saying, "Inspired by Osamu Tezuka's Kimba the White Lion" in future releases?
@CamJar99 In a sequence that was cut out of the American version of the show, it was established that Kimba lived somewhere in the Great Rift Valley. I realize that name is considered archaic now; the region was probably meant to be somewhere around Lake Victoria. I use "around" in a very broad sense.
@bluemb1069 -- I was also a huge fan as a kid, and even now, I feel all kinds of warm nice feelings bubbling up when I see this sequence again :-) I am very sorry to think that Disney might have just stolen the concept and story :-(
I read an article online about how some speculate The Lion King is based of off something called Kimba the White Lion, now that I have seen this... How is this connected?
@AGuyInAHat You'd have to see the whole show, or rather the whole series. This theme song was written after the show was created (the original Japanese theme was much longer and more majestic) and the scenes were cobbled together with no relation to the story (sort of like the original Star Trek opening was made).
@iamstillmyself or just type in "Homage or Stealing The Lion King" in the search box of youtube to see a video from the film critics of Rotten Tomatoes who noticed the comparisons. but even the critics liked the Lion King but will agree that Disney should admit that they stole some things. like how the villian in Kimba looks just like Scar not to mention that they both have a damaged left eye
@AGuyInAHat want a tip, use this link to see the SHOCKING truth. watch?v=s4GR0DconsU and the voice of Simba actually thought he was doing a remake of the series since he watched the series as a kid.
@AGuyInAHat You need to see more of the actual;series as a whole to see the connections and there are multiple connections. Here on You tube you can find some of the episodes, the whole series is avalible through Amazon
Kimba was TOTALLY ripped off!! When I heard the plot and characters in the lion king, I was like WTFingF!!!!! Disney HAD to have paid somobody for the rights the this! Simba?? PLEASE!! Im just sayin!!
if you consider Disney ripping off an old Japanese anime to make a pile of money with better graphics on their cartoon movie because Americans were not familiar with the original to be barely any connection then yeah.
his family DID sue....but disney always wins cases..it's one of those huge companies..like get this roy disney was'nt allowed to drive because the company feared if he got in an accident they company would lose face.
@whitelion44 I think that some of those "connections" are vague though. The main reason I don't completely trust that page is because it says that kimbas Aunt was standing over him in that one picture. She lied about being his aunt. That makes me wonder what sources he's just stretching the truth from.
It may be inspired by a little (characters, not story) but as for calling tlk a copy or ripoff is just plain wrong imho.
@murraymae To the contrary, Simba means Lion in Swahili.Nevertheless; TLK will always be my fave movie, but it's undeniable that it pretty much screwed up Kimba. Originally Disney was going to make their own adaption of Kimba, but different companies fought over the rights for the show.Disney was so confident that they already put Kimba into production, but they then lost the fight.Simba was a white cub before he was brownish gold. It didn't stop Disney so they just made TLK redgardless
they had tried to buy the rights for the film but the price was'nt what they wanted. original concept art of lion king shows a white lion. so pretty much yeah
@KENDALLSCHMIDTLOV100 haha wow you know how old this cartoon is ???? only way they rip off lion king if they were physics and were able to see about forty years in the future yea i doubt it so its the other way around Disney rip off this cartoon !!!
Ahhhhhhh, what great memories watching Kimba The White Lion brings back to me. I am also from Boston Mass and watched Kimba along with Gigantor and Speed Racer on channel 56 UHF when I was around 10 or so. If I remember it was one of the 1st half hour cartoons/animation that was broadcast on television. Boy I use to love getting home from school and turning on Kimba around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. I even named one of my cats Kimba as he is totally white and just as scrappy as the cartoon Kimba
@tedroberson - It was Channel 52 UHF in Los Angeles. Same thing. Run home from school or miss Kimba (which my sister adored) and next Speed Racer (which I loved). I'll be there were a lot of white kitties named KIMBA in the 70s.
also really, to keep his savannha/jungle home healthy, Kimba should have allowed the carnivores eat the large mammals (like evolution intended) as opposed to bugs because having too many herbivores around with no one to hunt them would cause eventual depletion of vegatation and all the herbivores would starve.
this show deffinatly has its charms like its environmental message and epic story but I have a bit of a problem with it. Why does Kimba get all the carnivores to eat bugs instead of other mammals? I mean, part of understanding and living in peace with nature is accepting the relationship between predator and prey, the food chain, ecosystems. thats how evolution works. some animals eat other ones.
@AungUnElric actually they ate bugs for only one episode. The same one they came up with the solution of a synthetic meat subsitute invented by a friendly professor
I saw this show on TV in the late 1970's. It was on the ABC here in Australia. I liked this show better than Astroboy. I now own this series on DVD, put out by Madman Australia. This DVD uses the original 1965 English dub I remember so well.
Disney Ripped this off with the lion king Kimba...... Simba... but they say no it's not the same but we all know is the same thing the old becomes new to the new generations that don't know about but it's hard to pull the wool over your eyes with some much information on the Internet and you tube now a days.
Was Giant Robot controlled by Johnny Sako thru a watch on his wrist? Also was Raideen a Giant Robot that was merged with a man ? Do you remember the GRX from Speed Racer that caused a great thirst to whoever was driving it?
@Dakers11 Yes, GRX after drinking water, driver would develop great fear of driving. Do you remember the acrobatic team with snake oiler? Also, yes, I remember all that. On the side, remember War of Gargantuas?
I remember being 8 years old and watching this on Channel 56 from Boston. Ahhh, my childhood in Massachusetts in the '60s . . . In case you didn't catch it, the person who did Kimba's voice (in the American version) was the same one who did the voice of Speed Racer's friend Trixie - Corinne Orr, who also does the voice for Snuggle the fabric softener bear.
@iamstillmyself Sorry . . . my memory is slipping a wee bit. As a kid, I thought Trixie and Kimba had to be done by the same person because they sounded similar to my then-young ear. Oh well . . . I haven't actually seen the cartoon since about 1972. However, Corinne Orr did do Trixie's voice, and she was the original "Snuggle" in those TV ads. The guy who did Speed Racer's American voice died not too long ago.
@elc1960 In 1970, at 6 yrs of age, Channel 52 in LA. After school, I couldn't wait until I got home to watch. Speed Racer would come on after Kimba. Brings back so much memories.
I also remember watching Kimba on channel 56. Kimba, Speed Racer, the Banana Splits and the various Sid & Marty Kroft programs....must see TV for 70's Kids!
Who/what was Kimba you say? Kimba the white lion was the shite! I rember all those years ago spending my afternoon watching Channel 52 (yes obviously some UHF channels had good programming). First there was Kimba, then Speed racer, then Johnny Sako and his flying robot (Giant Robot), with the late afternoon topped by the 3 stooges. Ahh when Japanese animation was truly king, and all the gory violence was left in tact!
@incogneegro Kimba's two closest friends were Polly Cracker-a parrot and Bucky-an antelope. those two scenes were not together in the original episodes. Just edited together for the opening montage.
I noticed Kimba's mother isnt a white lion, guess the creator didnt do his homework, I heard on animal planet that in order to get white cubs, both parents must be white. His momma clearly isnt.
@XSatsukeX Either you mis-heard or Animal Planet sucks worse than ever (bad information abounds). The gene that produces white lions is recessive, which means a tawny lion can carry the gene without being white. Two tawny lions that carry the gene can have a white cub. Simple genetics.
@XSatsukeX iamstillmyself is correct, neither lion parent needs to be white to produce a white cub, they just have to both be carriers. Just like some genetic diseases, spinal-muscular atrophy, muscular dystrophy, etc. The parents have to both be carriers of the gene, and most of the time, the parents don't even have the disease themselves. But that doesn't mean they can't produce offspring that wont have the disease.. all they have to do is be a carrier, that's all that matters.
I LOVE KIMBA!!! im pretty young and i found kimba when looking up lion king. you know. with the whole tlk kimba debate? saw him, and instantly fell in love with him! i have nearly all the episodes, memorized the song, and learned almost everything there is to know about him! HE IS AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its better than tlk, has a better moural, and... oh yeah, IS AWSOME!!!!
@laylalove123 The show was made in 1966. It was on TV until 1978, then came back recently with a different dub. Go to the kimba.us site (as shown on the video), then click on "About Kimba" to get all the info. The About Kimba page has buttons for The Story, The Characters, etc.
@iamstillmyself I remember finding it in the movie store and begged my mom to let me rent it and fell in love with it! i was like 8 so that was like 9 years ago!
my very favourite cartoon as a child. Was shown here in Australia on the ABC.That theme song is the best, and yes we used to play Kimba in the bush too.Don't care what anyone says The Lion King was a rip off!
When I was 6 years old in 1969 I used to run around a vacant block of land in long waist-high grass pretending I was Kimba in the jungle. One day my favourite magnet fell out of my shirt pocket and I spent about an hour looking in the grass for it, never did find it. Never did run around like Kimba again either...

@Dakers11 Yes, GRX after drinking water, driver would develop great fear of driving. Do you remember the acrobatic team with snake oiler? Also, yes, I remember all that. On the side, remember War of Gargantuas?
sayhi2jon 7 months ago
@iamstillmyself so who did the voice of of Jimmy Sparks from "GIGANTOR"?
Dakers11 7 months ago
@Dakers11 GIGANTOR!! YEAH!! Do you remember Giant Robot? Go Rangers? Yusha Raideen?
sayhi2jon 7 months ago
@Dakers11 That was also Billie Lou Watt voicing Jimmy Sparks.
iamstillmyself 7 months ago
Jeez, do you think this theme was inspired a bit by "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"?
elc1960 8 months ago
I remember being 8 years old and watching this on Channel 56 from Boston. Ahhh, my childhood in Massachusetts in the '60s . . . In case you didn't catch it, the person who did Kimba's voice (in the American version) was the same one who did the voice of Speed Racer's friend Trixie - Corinne Orr, who also does the voice for Snuggle the fabric softener bear.
elc1960 8 months ago 9
@elc1960 'Fraid not. The voice of Kimba was Billie Lou Watt, who also voice Astro Boy, as well as many, many other characters.
iamstillmyself 8 months ago
@iamstillmyself Sorry . . . my memory is slipping a wee bit. As a kid, I thought Trixie and Kimba had to be done by the same person because they sounded similar to my then-young ear. Oh well . . . I haven't actually seen the cartoon since about 1972. However, Corinne Orr did do Trixie's voice, and she was the original "Snuggle" in those TV ads. The guy who did Speed Racer's American voice died not too long ago.
elc1960 8 months ago
@elc1960 's OK. A lot of people confuse Corrine Orr and Billie Lou Watt. I just wanted to set the record straight.
iamstillmyself 8 months ago
@iamstillmyself I KNEW IT!!! Kimba sounds and seems just like Astro Boy. (Astro Boy and Kimba were both made by the same man)
ManlyPuffs 8 months ago
@elc1960 In 1970, at 6 yrs of age, Channel 52 in LA. After school, I couldn't wait until I got home to watch. Speed Racer would come on after Kimba. Brings back so much memories.
sayhi2jon 8 months ago
@elc1960
I also remember watching Kimba on channel 56. Kimba, Speed Racer, the Banana Splits and the various Sid & Marty Kroft programs....must see TV for 70's Kids!
bewarethedecks 3 months ago
Who/what was Kimba you say? Kimba the white lion was the shite! I rember all those years ago spending my afternoon watching Channel 52 (yes obviously some UHF channels had good programming). First there was Kimba, then Speed racer, then Johnny Sako and his flying robot (Giant Robot), with the late afternoon topped by the 3 stooges. Ahh when Japanese animation was truly king, and all the gory violence was left in tact!

0:23 is that simba running from the antelope with his bodyguard bird? and the antelope is getting chased by hyenas?
incogneegro 9 months ago
@incogneegro Kimba's two closest friends were Polly Cracker-a parrot and Bucky-an antelope. those two scenes were not together in the original episodes. Just edited together for the opening montage.

eddie100 9 months ago
I noticed Kimba's mother isnt a white lion, guess the creator didnt do his homework, I heard on animal planet that in order to get white cubs, both parents must be white. His momma clearly isnt.
XSatsukeX 9 months ago
@XSatsukeX Either you mis-heard or Animal Planet sucks worse than ever (bad information abounds). The gene that produces white lions is recessive, which means a tawny lion can carry the gene without being white. Two tawny lions that carry the gene can have a white cub. Simple genetics.
iamstillmyself 9 months ago 16
@XSatsukeX iamstillmyself is correct, neither lion parent needs to be white to produce a white cub, they just have to both be carriers. Just like some genetic diseases, spinal-muscular atrophy, muscular dystrophy, etc. The parents have to both be carriers of the gene, and most of the time, the parents don't even have the disease themselves. But that doesn't mean they can't produce offspring that wont have the disease.. all they have to do is be a carrier, that's all that matters.

laylalove123 1 year ago
@laylalove123 The show was made in 1966. It was on TV until 1978, then came back recently with a different dub. Go to the kimba.us site (as shown on the video), then click on "About Kimba" to get all the info. The About Kimba page has buttons for The Story, The Characters, etc.
