Very sad. Rhodesia, A forward, modern state with a proud, self-sufficient, strong army succumbing to world pressure and giving up to Mugabe and his thugs. What a terrible result. So-called Zimbabwe is known as the AIDS capital of the world and ranks at the bottom of nearly every metric measuring a state's modernity and progress.
But so long as they (the power wielders and the Chinese) have the wealth from the diamonds, do they really give a damn about the needs of the mass of good folks that still try to exist in the country.

why would we want to take rhodesia back? we would have to shore up the economy and feed the starving and we are in no financial position to be doing that, anyway you dont just take countries because you think you can.
As an American I cant imagine why you Rhodesian ex-patriots do not take your country back. If there ever was a time to act it is now. The economy is in shambles and the leader has fallen from international favor. The U.S. could never support Israel while condemning Rhodesia. Finally, Commodity prices are at an all time high. I am sure financing a liberation could be possible.

By the way, I am not Rhodesian and my first born grandson is mixed race (African father) which quite frankly is irrelevant to me. Msasauk, I'm hoping teyshawn1985 is shilling for the Zimbabwe CIO - think we got a live one here!
Guys... you are entitled to your views and to argue them ad infinitum - I simply ask that if you wish to conduct a LENGTHY thread, please use your own services - this channel is really not set up as a chat / blog forum!
Another question again. Was Ian Smith really racist.yep,im from Zimbabwe but as a black man,i have heard a few stories about him being racist(from blacks) but bizzarely Zim had the largest black middle class in Africa under Smith plus my grandpa was rich until 1979.Its all so confusing coz i wouldnt put Smith in the same bracket as Botha(racism wise) simply becoz of lack of concrete evidence.Did Smith really have black people's interests at heart?Did he share the same views on blacks as Botha?
Asking whether someone is racist is like asking if hunman beings have two arms, legs, etc. Racism, by virtue of our shared evoutionary past is an integral part of the human charachter. It can only be overcome by education, training and experience and a genuine desire to co-operate and co-exist with ones fellow man.
so are u saying that racism is part of the primative nature of man......... and that all who go and went against gods will of every man being equal, is a primitive being....again well said...what a dusch bag.. but i would have to agree, rhodesians were and are quite that, notably, I D smith speach in which he articulated that blacks or munts are sub human species.. there is ur primitive ex president..hahaha
Racism is an integral part of human nature. At some point in our shared evolutionary past it may have been a useful survival strategy - but so is co-operation and goodwill. "God" has nothing to do with it son - and if you think all men are equal just look at the situation in Zimbawbe now - primative eh? Smith never said "that blacks or munts are sub human species". He said, "I don't believe in black majority rule - not ever in a thousand years." Curious, how many ex-Rhodesians do you know?
i am actually a moor, mohr, direct descendant of st maurice, as so i need to apologies for my ancestors enslavement of your people, assuming you are european.. we were once known for nobility, look up pope benedicts coat of arms...as a matter of knowing many peoples i can safely say that those rhodesians have in no way ever tried to learn the culture and language of the people, hence their seperation from the true nature of the country and it owners
Dude, my compliments re: your ancestry and nobility. No need to apologise for an accident of birth or geography or for an act that occurred so far in the past as to be almost completely irrelavant to the present. You are completely wrong about the Rhodesians lack of understanding and learning of the culture and language of the Shona and Matablele tribesman - ask Lobenguela's descendants. 3rd generation Rhodesians were as African as the indigenous people except for the colour of their skin.
but when asking rhodesians if they consider themselves african, they simply reply, im not black...yes moorish shona people have been suppresed in servitude since the cecil rhodes betrayal of lobengulas trust.. not one ex rhodesian has stood up and acknowledged the human rights abuses to this day.(explain please). we are simply waiting and monitoring your blindness to this .....remember we are the decendants of your ancestors, no matter your ethnicity, the time is close for accountibility
I don't know what Rhodesians you have asked but the ones I knew who were 2nd or 3rd generation condidered themselves Africans. There were human rights abuses on both sides and many Rhodesians (including the PF) have acknowledged that fact of the war and the Lancaster House Agreement dealt specifically with that issue. That doesn't excuse or justify it but that is what war becomes us when the stakes are high. Accountability is indeed close, for Mugabe and ZANU PF.
I cannot believe you believe I defend racism. Let me spell it out for you - just because I may have gained some insight into the origin of racism doesn't mean that I condone racist belief or actions. I don't, and you are right, racism is a disgusting, abhorrant human behavior that needs to be fought where and when ever it is found - even if it be deep within our own charachter. That is the struggle we all endure.
if every AFRICAN LEADER has said the same thing about white rule in africa, i think u are deluded, rascim is a creation of fear, when the explorers moved through africa they were welcomed, but we destroyed them, u look at the black man today, how many kkk, arpartied, minority rules, white hating comunities do u find in the world. u say that it is important because u have never lived on the recieving end during arpartied.. open your eyes and date a black woman, their family will always accept you

Today Rhodesia is made to appear to have been a courageous struggle for a prosperous unified nation. The reality is that it was built on a racist false premise that gave credence to some of the monsters in charge today.
mnnh1 you are right; it was a courageous struggle against unwinnable odds but please tell us what that racist false premise was? White Rhodesians themselves voted overwhelmingly in their own plebesite in 1978to create a multiparty, multiracial democracy based on an equal one man-one vote system. The only ones who disagreed with this were the PF (Mugabe & Nkomo), the UN and the Commonwealth. The only ones I might add, who gave credance to the monsters in charge today.
What I mean is that the founding premise was flawed-that of white minority rule of a black majority in Africa, and was outdated even for that period in history. Also, the Rhodesians were not fighting for one man one vote! That came later, when it was conceded that victory for Ian Smith was unattainable. Now thats not balming Rhodesia entirely for 'the experiment in democracy gone horribly wrong' that is Mugabe and Zanu PF today, but denial of basic democratic rights undoubtedly contributed!
well i was borne a year after indapendance and i,v had to leave my country and for all the hardship in the country i,d go back tommrow if i knew some one some where was going to do some thing about it the same go,s for allot of my friends my best memories are there and always be there and as far as i,m concernd i might be white africa is my home and nothing will ever change that and i,m proud of it
White Rhodesians had Sophie's Choice. It made the wrong calculation by declaring independance from Britain. If they had remained British, I think Thatcher & Reagan would have found some way to hang on via Dominion status, temporarily though--just 10 years. Or they could have joined South Africa, be under Afrikaner rule then, although not ideal, Rhodesia would today be part of the new South Africa, which although has much work to do, is in many ways better than the present Mugabe hell.
South Africa is likely just 20 years or so behind Zimbabwe.....Mbekis refusal to condemn Maugabe looks like they are sliding into the standard African one-party cleptocracy...
In the Rhodesian rebellion (or Chimurenga if you prefer) few whites were killed. In fact, whites faced the least abuse from Mugabe in the early years of the new Zimbabwe. The Ndebele tribe in Metabeleland fared a lot worse under Mugabe.
No, not "The English", rather our communistic, Jew worshipping leaders. If the English are guilty of anything on the whole it is of being apathetic, this is the reality rather than having any active role in international affairs as you say - the English people generally hate the way things are going but have been brainwashed and seduced by the promise of short-term wealth and security.
rhodesians... largest biological attck and out break of anthrax ......rhodesia.....2nd most suppressive racicst rageme... rhodesian....largest human rights abuses caused outside a war zone.. rhodesia... the british saved you from HRO at the lancaster house agreement... im sure u WERE the real deal
hahah look it up yourself google selous scout and anthrax hahahahah im sure it wont be a surprise to you.... what does the word munt munt mean, or kaffir mean, are u saying those words did not exist prewar time.. explain the guarded high density areas the city passes for the black, thier comparative lower wages, the lack of ownership of ne thing....
teyshawn - I try and make it short and sweet. Richard Hatfield was not and never was a member of the Rhodesian Army. He never served in the SAS or Selous Scouts. His Walter Mitty phony war record has been exposed for the lie that it is - and he joins the many sad and pathetic charachters who claim false military histories to bolster their flagging egos. Naturally occuring anthrax outbreaks occurred in Rhodesia long before the war ever started -and was part of farming life in that country.
Im truly serious.I dont think the general Zim public are racists. Its only Mugabe and his thugs...Maybe Im saying this because im not racist myself and ive never met a racist black Zim.Even if we are racists in Zim,I dont think its as bad as South Africa black against white racism.
exactly, these people have been exploited for too long, i say they have all the right to claim ECONOMIC FREEDOM as well as Mandelas SOCIAL FREEDOM.... which is one step closer to self determination. mind u xenophobia is a reminder that southafrica has no ECONOMIC FREEDOM, so the poor 50% of South africa was poor pre mandela, and still are today.. but the economy grows by 5% .... who was and is making all this money... the same people as during arparthied
Hey gary11181. Sorry for the very late reply. As a white Aussie who had a lot of (admittedly white) Rhodesian-Zimbabwean friends, I would not feel in any way unsafe in Zimbabwe, once the present ZANU-PF regime is gone. I know from my Rhodie-Zim friends that the people of Zimbabwe are most hospitable to visitors and I'd love to get to Zimbabwe one day
us whites are so all alike, the black mans views are almost primitive, we whites hate blacks, and when they rise we crush them, we look for explanations from our counter parts and never question it on the premise of our superior race.... u need to find a black zimbabwean and get his story then make an informed balanced statement not that rubbish u posted.. is it not odd to u that mugabe is a hero with in the AU
No, us whites are not all alike. Try saying that to a Scotsman or an Irishman. No, we whites don't all hate blacks. The black Zimbabweans I served with and knew in the army and many I knew in civy life all had informed points of view and shared them with me when I socialized with them in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. Mugabe may be a hero in the AU but he is considered a villan, thug and criminal by the rest of the civilized world. If he lives long enough he will get his 'come-up-ence' in the Hague.
if so why did the black moorsih shona majority have so much hatred toward rhodesians, after all at independance they mugabe was not alone at the independance celebration
IF you were there at Independence you would have seen an enourmous amount of goodwill demonstrated by all - Shona, Ndebele and European. The new nation started off on a right foot but it all fell apart and a good deal of the blame falls squarely on Mugabe and ZANU PF's shoulders.
haha nam im not zimbabwean, but moorish, i have done studies on racism and its denial... which encampassed the rhodesian nation, u people found the averge black disgusting sad ur reality can not percieve this ask yourself y it was only afer 1980, moorish shona people were suddenly moving into the rich areas of ur capital and the white minority fled, if the joy was symetric explain the difference in living standards.
we are alike in you perception of moors with a darker hue,to the european term originated(munts), and kaffirs... we deserved everthing we got, i think if he goes to hague bush must tooo? 1,5 million dead in iraq based on a lie? do you focus on mugabe because he is a black man rising to his original moorish knowledge and ancestry. everthing they touch turns to gold, look at every aspect of life theres is a champion moor with it, on a DNA based level, and intellectual capacity we are just inferior
Like it or not, "Zimbabwe" was a much better place when it was under the banner of Rhodesia..particularly for blacks. Look at what the movie said..the oldest regimented unit was AFRICAN! Do you think they were FORCED to fight for them? Get a clue people!

Whatever you call it, I plan to buy my ticket back there the day ZANU-PF is out of power. I loved the Zimbabwe where I grew up, and am so profoundly angry at Mugabe right now...
Thanks for that mate. My Dad was actually in 1 Commando and is actually in the pages of 'The Saints', you can see him in page 203 with Dave Young, second from the left - Stu Taylor. Have taken after him! Cheers, best to keep the memory alive. Makes us Army brats proud eh;) Cheers
Rhodesia was a jewel of Africa. Beautiful and rich country. What is Zimbabwe? Is nothing. Big harm... Reverence for all members - living and fallen - of the Rhodesian Army. Salute.
è stata una tragedia che l'europa e l'america abbiano tradito la rhodesia per lasciarla in mano a incapaci terroristi. Dopo che coraggiosi pionieri l'avevano fatta diventare un grande e ricco paese.
Why do you keep calling it Rhodesia, why not Zimbabwe? Don't you think it's in appropriate to name an African country after a European. Even though Zimbabwe is in a bad state today it' not because of all blacks, it's because of MUGABE who refuses to let democracy take its course.

RE:"Long live Rhodesia!!!!"
Like it or not, Rhodesia died a long time ago and is not coming back to life anytime. Zimbabwe currently sucks from an economic standpoint, but hey, we'll see what the future brings.
There is no future for Zim other than following the typical model of the african nation with strongman leader; famine, disease and war. That is the future. SA is next, unfortunately.

why would we want to take rhodesia back? we would have to shore up the economy and feed the starving and we are in no financial position to be doing that, anyway you dont just take countries because you think you can.

Another question again. Was Ian Smith really racist.yep,im from Zimbabwe but as a black man,i have heard a few stories about him being racist(from blacks) but bizzarely Zim had the largest black middle class in Africa under Smith plus my grandpa was rich until 1979.Its all so confusing coz i wouldnt put Smith in the same bracket as Botha(racism wise) simply becoz of lack of concrete evidence.Did Smith really have black people's interests at heart?Did he share the same views on blacks as Botha?
gary11181 3 years ago 3
Asking whether someone is racist is like asking if hunman beings have two arms, legs, etc. Racism, by virtue of our shared evoutionary past is an integral part of the human charachter. It can only be overcome by education, training and experience and a genuine desire to co-operate and co-exist with ones fellow man.
tprdfh51 3 years ago
Well said tprdfh51. Good words of wisdom.
suryavajra 3 years ago
so are u saying that racism is part of the primative nature of man......... and that all who go and went against gods will of every man being equal, is a primitive being....again well said...what a dusch bag.. but i would have to agree, rhodesians were and are quite that, notably, I D smith speach in which he articulated that blacks or munts are sub human species.. there is ur primitive ex president..hahaha
teyshawn1985 3 years ago
Racism is an integral part of human nature. At some point in our shared evolutionary past it may have been a useful survival strategy - but so is co-operation and goodwill. "God" has nothing to do with it son - and if you think all men are equal just look at the situation in Zimbawbe now - primative eh? Smith never said "that blacks or munts are sub human species". He said, "I don't believe in black majority rule - not ever in a thousand years." Curious, how many ex-Rhodesians do you know?
tprdfh51 3 years ago
i am actually a moor, mohr, direct descendant of st maurice, as so i need to apologies for my ancestors enslavement of your people, assuming you are european.. we were once known for nobility, look up pope benedicts coat of arms...as a matter of knowing many peoples i can safely say that those rhodesians have in no way ever tried to learn the culture and language of the people, hence their seperation from the true nature of the country and it owners
teyshawn1985 3 years ago
Dude, my compliments re: your ancestry and nobility. No need to apologise for an accident of birth or geography or for an act that occurred so far in the past as to be almost completely irrelavant to the present. You are completely wrong about the Rhodesians lack of understanding and learning of the culture and language of the Shona and Matablele tribesman - ask Lobenguela's descendants. 3rd generation Rhodesians were as African as the indigenous people except for the colour of their skin.
tprdfh51 3 years ago
but when asking rhodesians if they consider themselves african, they simply reply, im not black...yes moorish shona people have been suppresed in servitude since the cecil rhodes betrayal of lobengulas trust.. not one ex rhodesian has stood up and acknowledged the human rights abuses to this day.(explain please). we are simply waiting and monitoring your blindness to this .....remember we are the decendants of your ancestors, no matter your ethnicity, the time is close for accountibility
teyshawn1985 3 years ago
I don't know what Rhodesians you have asked but the ones I knew who were 2nd or 3rd generation condidered themselves Africans. There were human rights abuses on both sides and many Rhodesians (including the PF) have acknowledged that fact of the war and the Lancaster House Agreement dealt specifically with that issue. That doesn't excuse or justify it but that is what war becomes us when the stakes are high. Accountability is indeed close, for Mugabe and ZANU PF.

i cannot believe u defend racism... disgusting!!!!
teyshawn1985 3 years ago
I cannot believe you believe I defend racism. Let me spell it out for you - just because I may have gained some insight into the origin of racism doesn't mean that I condone racist belief or actions. I don't, and you are right, racism is a disgusting, abhorrant human behavior that needs to be fought where and when ever it is found - even if it be deep within our own charachter. That is the struggle we all endure.
tprdfh51 3 years ago
if every AFRICAN LEADER has said the same thing about white rule in africa, i think u are deluded, rascim is a creation of fear, when the explorers moved through africa they were welcomed, but we destroyed them, u look at the black man today, how many kkk, arpartied, minority rules, white hating comunities do u find in the world. u say that it is important because u have never lived on the recieving end during arpartied.. open your eyes and date a black woman, their family will always accept you

Today Rhodesia is made to appear to have been a courageous struggle for a prosperous unified nation. The reality is that it was built on a racist false premise that gave credence to some of the monsters in charge today.
mnnh1 3 years ago
mnnh1 you are right; it was a courageous struggle against unwinnable odds but please tell us what that racist false premise was? White Rhodesians themselves voted overwhelmingly in their own plebesite in 1978to create a multiparty, multiracial democracy based on an equal one man-one vote system. The only ones who disagreed with this were the PF (Mugabe & Nkomo), the UN and the Commonwealth. The only ones I might add, who gave credance to the monsters in charge today.
tprdfh51 3 years ago 2
What I mean is that the founding premise was flawed-that of white minority rule of a black majority in Africa, and was outdated even for that period in history. Also, the Rhodesians were not fighting for one man one vote! That came later, when it was conceded that victory for Ian Smith was unattainable. Now thats not balming Rhodesia entirely for 'the experiment in democracy gone horribly wrong' that is Mugabe and Zanu PF today, but denial of basic democratic rights undoubtedly contributed!

White Rhodesians had Sophie's Choice. It made the wrong calculation by declaring independance from Britain. If they had remained British, I think Thatcher & Reagan would have found some way to hang on via Dominion status, temporarily though--just 10 years. Or they could have joined South Africa, be under Afrikaner rule then, although not ideal, Rhodesia would today be part of the new South Africa, which although has much work to do, is in many ways better than the present Mugabe hell.
atyg1967 3 years ago
South Africa is likely just 20 years or so behind Zimbabwe.....Mbekis refusal to condemn Maugabe looks like they are sliding into the standard African one-party cleptocracy...
Palfium66 3 years ago 4
In the Rhodesian rebellion (or Chimurenga if you prefer) few whites were killed. In fact, whites faced the least abuse from Mugabe in the early years of the new Zimbabwe. The Ndebele tribe in Metabeleland fared a lot worse under Mugabe.

No, not "The English", rather our communistic, Jew worshipping leaders. If the English are guilty of anything on the whole it is of being apathetic, this is the reality rather than having any active role in international affairs as you say - the English people generally hate the way things are going but have been brainwashed and seduced by the promise of short-term wealth and security.

teyshawn1985 3 years ago
teyshawn - I try and make it short and sweet. Naturally occuring anthrax outbreaks occurred in Rhodesia long before the war ever started -and was part of farming life in that country.

teyshawn1985 3 years ago
Hey gary11181. Sorry for the very late reply. As a white Aussie who had a lot of (admittedly white) Rhodesian-Zimbabwean friends, I would not feel in any way unsafe in Zimbabwe, once the present ZANU-PF regime is gone. I know from my Rhodie-Zim friends that the people of Zimbabwe are most hospitable to visitors and I'd love to get to Zimbabwe one day
MarkJSau 3 years ago
us whites are so all alike, the black mans views are almost primitive, we whites hate blacks, and when they rise we crush them, we look for explanations from our counter parts and never question it on the premise of our superior race.... u need to find a black zimbabwean and get his story then make an informed balanced statement not that rubbish u posted.. is it not odd to u that mugabe is a hero with in the AU
teyshawn1985 3 years ago
No, us whites are not all alike. Try saying that to a Scotsman or an Irishman. No, we whites don't all hate blacks. The black Zimbabweans I served with and knew in the army and many I knew in civy life all had informed points of view and shared them with me when I socialized with them in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. Mugabe may be a hero in the AU but he is considered a villan, thug and criminal by the rest of the civilized world. If he lives long enough he will get his 'come-up-ence' in the Hague.
tprdfh51 3 years ago
if so why did the black moorsih shona majority have so much hatred toward rhodesians, after all at independance they mugabe was not alone at the independance celebration
teyshawn1985 3 years ago
IF you were there at Independence you would have seen an enourmous amount of goodwill demonstrated by all - Shona, Ndebele and European. The new nation started off on a right foot but it all fell apart and a good deal of the blame falls squarely on Mugabe and ZANU PF's shoulders.
tprdfh51 3 years ago
haha nam im not zimbabwean, but moorish, i have done studies on racism and its denial... which encampassed the rhodesian nation, u people found the averge black disgusting sad ur reality can not percieve this ask yourself y it was only afer 1980, moorish shona people were suddenly moving into the rich areas of ur capital and the white minority fled, if the joy was symetric explain the difference in living standards.
teyshawn1985 3 years ago
we are alike in you perception of moors with a darker hue,to the european term originated(munts), and kaffirs... we deserved everthing we got, i think if he goes to hague bush must tooo? 1,5 million dead in iraq based on a lie? do you focus on mugabe because he is a black man rising to his original moorish knowledge and ancestry. everthing they touch turns to gold, look at every aspect of life theres is a champion moor with it, on a DNA based level, and intellectual capacity we are just inferior
