@tsega60 It´s an old design, called tree of Life or Vine of Life. I saw it on a very old Martin guitar and fell in love. So I copied it for my guitar.
Man, that is a great looking and sounding guitar, Nice job! --StewMac advertises that this kit doesn't require any fancy tools but from reading a few of the posts on here it would seem this is not quite the case, can you elaborate as to what were "essential" assembly tools you had to purchase (besides finishing polishes, tuners etc) ? thanks for your time. great playing also!
@pinfinity The "essential speciality tools list" (other than usual tools everybody already owns) would include IMHO: Guitar mold, radius dish(es), laminate trimmer with binding router bit(s) and binding routing jig or similar. Also the soundhole/rosette routing jig for the dremel tool.
@pinfinity I forgot to add if you are to include some inlay will need bits for your dremel and the precision router base ( needed too for the soundhole/rosette jig)
What a lovely guitar! I bought the same kit about 2 years ago. Never finished it! I thought it would be like a model car kit or something. Just glue it all up and there you go. But I didn't realize how many specialized tools and clamps and jigs that I needed. EXPENSIVE tools! So that was that. Every step of the way I ran into a wall. Poor preparation on my part. You on the other hand crafted a gorgeous instrument. I admire your work. I know how hard it is! Peace.
Many thanks for your kind words ! Take a look at the web and you'll find a lot of information. You don't really need a lot of tools. There are some of them that will make your work much more easy but they aren't the only way to do it well. And you can build many tools and jigs yourself spending little money. Dont let your kit die on a closet. It will make a nice instrument to enjoy !! Peace.
Beautiful!! Have you made others and did you have inlay experience prior to making this? I am just putting together my own kit and would appreciate any info. Either way, Great job!
Top is 28' radius arched and back 20' radius arched. There are radius dishes from some web suppliers available, and they are a great help. I used them but many people don´t. Believe me, building a kit is not very difficult. Stewmac kit comes with a DVD and written instructions very useful.
Highly recommended: guitar mold, go bar deck, laminate trimmer + router bits for binding. Lots of clamps, and usual shop tools. For inlay work, Dremel tool and base + small bits.
Nice playing, and astoundingly beautiful guitar. Congrats on your guitar!

the headstock, body and neck finishes make this guitar look exactly like my friend's Blueridge Acoustic guitar.
