Three feet huh?...36" Wow, don't ever sell it!! Any car that can drive through snow higher than it's mirrors and above the hood and trunk line is amazing! The Subaru's, Audi's and BMW's around here 'try' to drive through half that amount.. (12"-18"). Then we go and pull them out. It's to the point, we go out driving around, looking for them. Money isn't bad either!! Must be different snow where you live.
This whole subject is about "FRICTION" and one vehicle's ability to overcome it. There is a very logical reason my 7,000lbs truck with snow tires, lots of ground clearance using 1960's 4wd technology can overcome twice maybe three times as much snow as any computer controlled AWD car you can think of. Stop being a bunch of brainless wheenies and enjoy the video.
@Mrin4mation haha wrong, i drive my audi a8 quattro up hills in 3 feet of snow passing raised chevy silverados and other raised car. my car has almost the same ground clearance as the car in this video
i've had xi's and quattro's and they both do great in the snow so all of you can shut the fuck up and quit your bitching, including the guy who posted this. You snobby stuck up pussey ass holes need to get it through your head that audi and BMW both make great fucking cars.
yeah so can my friends ranger, except when he's going up a hill, but then he just puts it in 4wd. but the point is that either my BMW, or my S4 could handle that. even my fwd gti.
X drive sucks...no centre diff just clutch packs. Also, x drive equipped models have a higher rider height and do not feature aluminum suspension components as do the 2 wheel drive models. Also the rear diff sits very low. Audi's quattro system is more durable and more neatly packaged and features aluminum suspension components!
First, these "clutch packs" are actually limited slip diffs: drilled clutch plates surrounded in a viscous fluid. When the plate speeds greatly differ, the fluid stiffens up, locking the plates together. Thus: limited slip.
Second, aluminum has two advantages: weight and heat dispersion. Thats why many aircooled engines are made of it: it sheds heat very quickly. Aluminum pales in comparison to steel, which is much more durable (IIRC, this bmw has steel suspension parts. heavier, but stronger)
Also, bmw's awd is not necessarily built for snow. the power is split 62/38 with rear bias, providing a rwd handling and steering feel while retaining the traction of awd. Audi has a history in rally cars. The Sport Quattro, which made them famous, was a leader in its time, and the quattro system is a descendent. quattro is split 50/50 but is continuously variable, providing maximum grip but sacrificing some handling characteristics. For example, quattro is more prone to torque and bump steer.
@audis4mister my friend has an Audi 4000S his dad owns 2 Audi 200 wagon's from 87 and his cousin has an Audi 5000CS wagon and his brother in law has a 91 Audi Quattro Coupe and an S4 and his sister has an Audi 100 from i cant remember the year but the S4 always pulls my Danger Ranger out of the snow i totally agree that audis are great cars
He got stuck afterall. Audi is way better at handling massive amounts of snow. BMW's are better off parked in garages when it comes to winter driving and this "genius" x-drive system is nothing more than a desperate call from BMW trying to catch up with what its competion has been doing over some two and a half decades. No offence to the author, but does he really know what an Audi is and how it feels on the snowy road?
there are only 2 TRUE AWD systems in the world - subarus and Quattro. the xDrive is a bmw thing. they should really stick with what they know best - RWD cars.
@jimpodi quattro doesn't exist anymore, audi buys the parts from Haldex, a company from sweden (which delivers the 4wd systems for volvo and saab as well). Its basically the same system you get in a VW golf 4motion -.-
Just like the rest of the general public you are highly misinformed about the quattro system. It's extremely outdated, and the BMW xdrive system absolutely KILLS it. Do some research before you post ignore crap.
i did not.. i have seen 2 other videos with them getting stuck .. one of the cars was lowered couldnt get out .. but both were going backwards and did not have all season tires or snow tires
with that kind of money to leave on the street for the REEL plow to find. i would buy a SUV or have a heated drive way that melts when you turn it on.
now how do u know that brainsmail01 is american .. (he could be) but it was juss ur assumption.. assume= make an ass out of u and me .. .. next time juss make sure b4 opening ur mouth

AWD is for faggots. If you live in snow country, sucks to be you. Live in a place that doesn't try to naturally kill you half the year. RWD 4 LIFE

Let me end this Audi/BMW snow war.....my F250 diesel 4x4 willpush snow with the headlights and still keep rolling.
Drive teh cars on the plowed roads, and I will do my best to plow the driveways to keep them from getting stuck.
End rant.
