  • hey see the add before hand so new world order

  • how far out did you have the targets?

  • Sorry you missed your moving target.

  • Does the extractor not work?

  • how much for one ??

  • can you use an regular 45-70 in this gun

  • I see you take the cartriges out by hand, arent they really hot that short after the fire???

  • nice vid man, i have a question about the ejection, i just bought a 1873 carbine and i have to do the same thing and reach in the chamber to extract the shell, do you know exactly whats wrong with the gun?

  • Who is up for burgers?

  • Haha I have the same exact liman sights on my model 1884, the front especially looks very nice on them

  • That rifle is so cool:)

  • Or if you were commenting on how he was pulling the cartridge out on his own he was doing that so he didn't have to find the cartridge later

  • @TACTICALboom if yours ejects the cartridge on it's own chances are you don't actually have an original 1884 Springfield

  • TACTICAL

  • huh, mine ejects the cartridge it self

  • I have an original 1884 trapdoor. long-rifle. really big. really heavy.

  • Whats with the ejection on this gun? Ive seen other videos where it launched the shell out of the chamber without you having to reach in and take it out.

  • I have held that gun befor!

  • @annasajerk Were you here at the shop a few weeks ago with your dad?

  • @Iraqveteran8888 Yes sir that was me. and I can prove it. you gave the barrel of fugly to me. Oh, and I must thank you once again for the great time me and my dad had when we were there. Thank you Sir.

  • @annasajerk well i own one because i am irish

  • they had one of those at MY local gander mtn a month or two ago and my dad wanted to buy it.

  • you should buy an external microphone for your video camera

get an external mic that has a wind filter sort of thing...

  • Very nice Eric, I love it!!

  • Just bought a Trapdoor made in 1879 this morning, and there's only 3 flaws:

    -No rear sight

-Original stock, but the wood's cut down to about where yours is

-Receiver is bulged and gutted(Chamber is nonexistent, one of our ancient 500 grain shells nearly slid into the barrel)

Good project for me to work on.

  • I am really likeing the reshaped hammer.

  • Definitely a cool rifle. My question is how's the recoil on it?

  • @lvcsslacker It lets you know it's there when you pull the trigger, but not in the same way a .300 WIN MAG will. Recoil is not bad at all. K98 is much worse.

  • Damn well nearly had steak for dinner!

  • These transitional rifles are things of beauty, the most interesting period in my opinion.

  • isnt the rifle supposed to eject the cartidge once you open the trap door?

  • @P8NTBALL60 I don't think the trapdoors had ejectors.

  • That's one brave cow! Nice video, thank you.

  • Now how about a Sharps?

  • @gromann If one comes along for the right price, sure.

  • @gromann I have 1 :)

  • God damn man, that's lovely. Now, it'd even be better if it wasn't sporterized, but I wished I had the money to just go and collect these. Alot of my friends look at me weird for liking pre-1950s/60s weaponry, but there is a whole lot of story in a weapon that's older than your grandparents.

  • What is the hammer for?

  • @idezilla striking the primer.

  • Mmm, steak.

  • Awesome bovine cameo

  • great i like these old guns, got to shoot some real old bench busters in oklahoma last year, these old dudes were shooting open sights at 400yds and hitting the bullseye EVERY shot! all blackpowder loads at the bench, great bunch of gentlemen, all great snipers, made me think of billy dixon!

  • very cool, hate to see them chopped, but that one seems real clean

That cow made me laugh, a few places out here we have to deal with them walking around too

  • Lots of potential in this rifle. I'd personally be inclined to ditch the rubber recoil pad for a nicely checkered steel plate. Then I'd install an older-style front sight. Make it more like a true 19th century sporter.

  • how cheap can you get theis??

  • The rifle seems to have a hairtrigger ! Is it adjusted ?

  • Cool rifle, looks like a blast to shoot.

  • a shame that bubba got his hands on it

  • i defiently like the springfield trapdoor because it was the first military service rifle too fire brass cartridges, it defiently is a bigger step than the old muzzleloader before it

  • The 1884 Springfield has got to be one of the all time favorite single shot rifles made that I know of.It's just as good a hunter as it was when it was produced. Nice thing is the ablity to change it to a percussion loader for paper cartridges by changing the breach block. Thank you for posting and sharing this video. :)

  • You should get a external microphone with a wind-sleeve or whatever it is, that reduces such noise! And get two cameras! One focused on you, and one on the target, for instant gratification! We can see your particular shots hit! :D Come on, russle up some quality, man, you're all about it with the guns!

  • This is smokeless or Black powder?

  • my dad would love this

  • dear santa...

  • great video but i think there the ejector is broken or weak springs, my 1873 Springfield trapdoor rifle original 125yrs old still ejects the brass out of the gun. My load for mine is 500gr cast spitser over 24gr of XMP-5744 great for 500yds or further.

  • Awesome gun. Bet your gonna buy the new wood if you see it for priced for sale, before it all said and done.

  • Behind the firing line you stupid cow lol.

  • @Gungeek Yeah sometimes we have to hop on the 4 wheeler and chase them off. They are idiots...lol

  • @Iraqveteran8888 But they make a nice BBQ =))

  • Nice rifle, but I remember reading somewhere that with the copper cases they don't extract properly and in some instances, they are know to ripe the rims off them.

  • lovely gun

  • I also had to laugh at that cow, it really didn't give a fuck! :D

  • I didn't agree with your latest philosophy video but I very much respect your shooting videos. Thumbs up from me!

  • That is a cool gun! What was a typical use for that rifle in it's day?

  • I shot one of those 45/70s about 30 yrs. ago,...kicked like a MULE!!!

  • beef for dinner boys?

  • i really like that rear sight

  • wow... thats a badass little rifle..

  • hay atleast its a nice sporter and not a bubba sporter

  • This rifle is one I would love to own, thanks for the vid!

  • Isn't there an ejector for the gun? Or is it broken - Missing?

  • @humafrag nope it have a extractor in it you nee to flip the door up fast to get it to fly out

  • Nice video, but,I hate those damn rests things!I saw one that holds the entire gun for you -- all you'd have to do is point the rifle at your target. Why would anyone want to use that?!

  • @LordBehemoth67 If you don't benchrest your rifle properly when working up handloads, you are wasting your time....period.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 Hm...You mentioned those were handloads?I need to pay more attention, maybe turn my headphones up.Sorry 'bout that.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 not to mention trying to sight in a scope.

  • @LordBehemoth67 Ignorance...

  • @LordBehemoth67

The bench rest is used to test the accuracy of your weapon/ammunition, by taking the "you" factor out of the equation.

  • @LordBehemoth67 it helps when you only have one hand to work with

  • @LordBehemoth67 um, so you can properly sight it in, and if your handloading see how your shells are doing...is your gun experiance limited to call of duty?

  • Love these rifles, thanks for the vid! I'm looking forward to the next installment of this 'series'.

  • @Seamus449 Will be doing quite a bit of casting for this rifle, so I'm sure more videos are in the pipeline. It's a blast to shoot, so I'm sure you'll see more of it.

  • that`s a huge round!having steak tonight?

  • @bobsolla Not this time...lol

  • @Iraqveteran8888 just shot up paper targets

  • pretty good condition considering how old it is :)

  • No ejector?

  • @SouthSurreyMilitia Yes and no. I have seen Trapdoors that toss them out automatically when the "trap" is opened, but this one does not. I haven't looked at the mechanism closer, but it could have a worn part or similar that needs replacing.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 Thanks for responding.

  • nice

  • nice rifle i want one but 1500 is a little to rich for my blood.
