  • This is a great how to, thank you for the post.

  • @PsykoWaffle You are welcome and thanks for the feedback.

  • When setting for eye relief, do you set the scope to max magnification ?????

  • @2jztt6Spd If you have a mil or MOA reticle feature that is second focal plane, set the scope to the magnification at which your reticle is "active". Otherwise, set it to the magnification that you will use most of the time.

  • regarding your canting trick, it would be most accurate, EXCEPT you need to first guarantee that the bubble is the same exact size in both levels, and that the lines are the same distance apart in both levels... otherwise you'll never get the two bubbles to line up when canting.

  • @tzotzo I use one level to level the base and scope the other one in the action to let me know if I involuntary move the rifle out of cant. It works time and time again.

  • @CSTactical1 yeah I agree... again as long as both levels are exactly the same dimensions.

  • @tzotzo Thanks for the info.

  • @tzotzo That shouldn't really matter. What matters is that the reference between the top of the rail and the top of the scope are as similar as possible and since he's using the same level for both of those he should be able to get very precise that way. The reference between the action and the scope doesn't matter and he's only using that to alert him if the rifle slips out of cant. This is the best depiction of leveling a scope on YouTube.

  • This is one of the best videos I've seen on mounting optics. I have mounted scopes on hundreds of rifles but gave up on the bubbles due to their lack of precision. If I only knew the canting trick when I was putting scopes on rifles 5 to 10 x a day.

  • @IdaHowitzer I'm gland you like the video and thanks for the feedback.

  • Where can I get the cheek pad online at all i can find are chinese velcro ones

  • @SNIPERSCOTTIE Try Brownells... I got item number 100-004-631 and I'm very happy with it.

  • You sometimes hear of people aligning scope rings using various alignment tools; also in the process of mounting a scope, it is sometimes necessary to lap the rings. Is this something which you personally would recommend..

    Appreciated

    Bern

  • Finally a good video thank you

  • nice setup

  • So I am thinking about getting a 4X32 scope for my 22 online and I'm new about scopes. Do you think the rings and the base and everythinng other than the scope come with the scope or do you think that it just depends on the seller. By the way I am thinking about getting it on Ebay.

  • Thanks for the video. I have a big torque wrench for auto work and it was kind of expensive. How much is your small torque wrench?

  • @fjammer22 They range form $60 to $150.00.

  • I got the Level form a hardware store. The IOR base are nice, I would take the MK4 rings over them. TPS at one point was making rings for IOR.

  • Hey Mike,

    I have 2 quick questions.

    1. Where did you get those little bubble levels at? They appear to be better quality than the Midway Level-Level-Level unit.

    2. What do you think of IOR Valdada rings and bases in comparison to TPS rings and bases and Mark 4 rings and bases?

Thanks and keep making great vids.

  • Do you use Loctite only for the screws when mounting base? Some of the gunsmith say that if you not gonna mount the base on the glue, the bolts can be cut off by recoil. Any comments on that? Can it be true with .308Win?

  • @sauliusipsc Most likely this will not happen do to the recoil unless they are cheep bases. I use removable Loctite.

  • @CSTactical1

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the tips and looking forward for your new vids. Keep it up! Respect.

  • I used the 15 ft lbs for the base and the screw broke off. Luckily it was easy to get out and I had an extra screw. So be aware when tightening.

  • @Kernkraft44 Who's base was it? I have mounted 100's of bases and the only ones that I have seen that come with cheap screw are cheap bases that tend to be under $50.00. Go with Badger, Nightforce, USO, and Seekins and you will be fine.

  • @CSTactical1

    Went with a LaRue base.

  • @Kernkraft44 That not good. I know LaRue for the most part makes good stuff.

  • @CSTactical1

I'm still very happy with it especially at $75, but I still have a feeling that I have over-torqued it past the 15ft lbs with my torque wrench.

  • @Kernkraft44 I just noticed you said 15ftlbs. It should be 15inlbs

  • Hey Mike where did you purchase your torque wrench for the ring side bolts? Thanks.

  • @o5245607 We sell them.

  • Great video, just the right amount of info I needed to get ready to mount my first scope. I have a question though. Are there any special considerations that need to be taken into account for an M1A rifle (.308, semi-auto)?

  • @ThaddeusMcSpalding It depends on the mount. Some mounts have adjustable MOA but most do not. Other than that it is the same.

  • @CSTactical1 Alrighty, thanks for the info. I was thinking that for my set up, I'd go with the badger rings, a leupold VXII scope, and the weaver style receiver mount. Does that sound appropriate?

  • @ThaddeusMcSpalding That will work. The mount is going to be very important so I would recommend getting the ARMS, Sadlak, Smith, or any high end mount.

  • @CSTactical1 Thanks for the info :)

  • When you get to this quality of rings and bases you should not need to lap the rings but sometime you may need to do a little bit of lapping.

    Mike @ CST

  • Excellent video!

I only have one question, why did you do it without lapping the scope rings?

Is lapping not necessary or are the rings designed so they dont have to be lapped?

Im new to the sniper community and i couldnt found a satisfying explanation yet...

  • The bore site has a grid pattern and you lineup cross hairs to the pattern. Each Boresiter is different and the Leupold one has worked great for me.

  • hey mate.. can you explain how the boresighting works? ive got a REM 700 with a M4 leuplod scope and i cant seem to get it to sight in properly...now that ive seen this video im going to buy a few other things to get it sighted properly..

  • great video. I have the yellow torque wrench, but where did you buy the one for the badger rings, and how much ? Thanks

  • Do you lap your scope rings? Just want to know your two cents on it. I use that same technique as well with the levels. But I finish it off with a plum line at least 10 m away and aim at it. Then run the elevation up and down to make sure it is straight throughout.

  • What kind of scope is that?

  • Premier Heritage Reticles - 3.5-15x50. Are you familiar with Premier Heritage Reticles?

  • What is the purpose of alignment out of cant?

  • The purpose is to be as precise as possible. With a "Level" you can get a more exact measurement by putting the bubble on a hard line rather than just putting it somewhere in the middle of two lines. Obviously, the key is to put the other levels and measurements on the same hard line so everything is in sync. Good question...

  • Good question, but better answer.. Thanks!
