Gretzky won scoring leaders still in the 90's. think about '90, '91, '92(3rd), '94, '97(5th) most assists(72) with Lemieux, '98(4th)most assists(67) with Jagr. and think about, he still had most assists in '98. one reason why he didn't score goals that much in the 90's was his gaming style also, he tried to make the game, not score goals like in the 80's - otherwise he would have shot more. do you remember what kind of slap shots he made in the 80's. he had pretty good accuracy i can tell you.
Brett Hull was amazing goal scorer, but when Adam Oates left/traded to Boston - Hull didn't make that many goals anymore:P usually those guys need good center to feed them.
Noone will ever beat his records because of the goalies nowadays, they have new styles and better gear. Noone will ever beat em, even if gretzky's reborn as same person he still wont beat the records

well.... in my opinion Ovetchkin is a selfish hockey player, an amazing selfish hockey player. Wayne Gretzky excelled at being a dish master. he would use his skill behind the net to rack up his assists. i don't think Ovetchkin will ever get 163 assists in a season or 100+ for that matter.
yea but you could argue that Ovechkin's the games best ever natural goal scorer and he wont ever get close to putting up 92 goals in a year, i doubt he'll even hit the 76goals Teemu put up in his rookie year, its just a different game, more equipment, bigger goalies, less goals
