  • Respect to Carmine...this man influenced both John Bonham and Ian Paice, these three are among the greatest rock drummers ever to sit behind a kit.

  • Im 57 and a drummer and Carmin was the man to me before I heard Zep.Carmin and John are two of my favorites justs as Ginger Baker,Keith Moon and a host of others who layed down the drum trak for my life, great days to grow up in.

  • He's basically saying that he invented John Bonham and the Led Zep drum look and sound. Haha!

  • @harlesslee no he didnt.

  • @TheCityofgood ye he deed

  • @harlesslee no where did he literally say he invented bonham or the led zep sound, thats just how u interpret it for some reason.

  • carmine cant hold a candle to bonzo

  • fuckin awesome

  • Well I hung out with Carmine years ago all night when he was touring with Nugent. And again when he was with king cobra. He Carmine if you see this can you hook me up with Ludwig? LOL

  • In my opinion the drummer who started hard rock drumming is Mitch Mitchell of Jimi Hendrix Experience

  • one day you will understand drumming.....maybe get some lessons....if my schedule wasnt so full id be glad to show you a thing or two about what drumming is supposed to be....until then maybe get some medication because you obviously have some sort of imbalance....I hope it all works out for you.....I feel sorry for you...but not really

  • @themetalgod21 ok let me set you straight.....first of all Bonham died in 1980...i remember it well....second in the industry it is widely known that Carmine is a bullshit artist and tries to take credit for everything known to drumming....Jason knows all this very well ...doesnt matter when he was born...these arent the only lies Carmine has told about Bonham....and the fact that you said Carmine Appice is a better drummer than John Henry Bonham makes you the comedian of the year.

  • I saw both Vanilla Fudge and Led Zeppelin at the Edmonton Field House (bleachers on both sides looking down at the stage in the middle of the floor which was a race track for people who are shooting for the Olympics. Tickets were $5.50 at the door. If you bought yer tickets at the ticket center they were 5 bucks. Not bad for a double band stand with Led Zeppelin and Vanilla Fudge. The Fudge WERE the show. Led Zeppelin played Led Zep l and part of Led Zep ll they fucked up big time. Too drunk.

  • dunno why everyone is on a hating carmine appice kick, but regardless, his story about Bonham is true, he put JB on with Ludwig, they DID tour together, and they were friends. But yea...carmine appice sucks blah blah whatever. Bonham is god and carmine is a great drummer

  • Gee whizzz, Carmine really knows how to suck the magic out of everything, i guess he claims the rights to everything Gene Simmons hasnt laid claim too.

  • i couldnt stop sneezing during this video... guess im allergic to bullshit

  • The only drummer to compare with Bonham in his prime is Tommy Aldridge.

But have it your way and bless you and Carmine, the truth is out there and you can believe what you want to...cheers mates

  • @mppaiges Ian Paice

  • @mppaiges Also, Bonham went into the studio to record Zep I a year AFTER Vanilla Fudge's first album hit #6 on the charts. Pretty sure Bonham heard of Appice by then.

BUt mostly, even though he was a god, Bonzo wasn't the kind of guy who'd put down another drummer. Let alone a great drummer like Carmine Appice.

  • @mppaiges The first Zep album was recorded with a 22" bass drum! Bonham didn't go to a 26" until after he met Appice, which is when he got sponsored by Ludwig and went with nearly the same setup as Carmine (yes, double bass and a gong).

And by the way, Carmine didn't say Bonham copped his foot. He said Bonham was inspired by his double-bass triplet (something Carmine said he didn't even realize he did). Only Bonzo did it with one foot, which to quote Appice "blew me away." Rightly so.

  • @Benighted E... saw BBA, Cactus, was learning drummng , but Apc sucked.. played an old motown song ok, another to be a great drummer, may be nice guy, people liked him and he could play ok, so he got Rod Stewart..I would have no problem with him except his 'Bonham copied me' comments...but in the light of humanity, I forgive you Carmine, you know the truth..even Vinnie shreds him..but Bonham played the drums of God, and that is irrefutable, there's a reason he wins every drummer's poll, c'mon

  • @Beinighted pt 2..when VF tried touring solo, no sales so they had to add 4 ro 5 bands..Zep was one, but by that time Bonham had been playing since his young teens and Zep 1 was out, he didn't imitate anyone..Instead of having some humility, gratitude that he even hung with Bonham, Apc brags..no grace in that man, and Jeff Beck is quoted that his biggest ever mistake was hiring

Apc, a mistake he never repeated...I am not personally offended by any of it except JB is my hero and Apc lied..

  • @mppaiges Carmine once toured with Ozzie was asked why carmine was no longer with him his reply was " he left due to illness; He made me sick"

  • @Beinighted E..this bores me...first, read the comment above mine..second, and you can find it yourself, I have an interview with Page that also maintains Bonham having no knowledge of Apc except he heard the 2 big VF singles. He liked the footwork and learned it then destroyed Apc..what blew Page's mind was JB had no idea Apc used TWO bass drums...and JB could double that & with 1 foot..as for how huge VF was, crap, a couple of big singles, they almost always played package tours...continued

  • @mppaiges Didn't know who Appice was?!?! Didn't listen to Vanilla Fudge?!?!? How old are you? You DO realize how HUGE Vanilla fudge was back in the day right? They don't have very much spot light left anymore, but back then people in Europe didn't care about the almighty 'Jimmy Hendrix' as much as most think. They were all going to see Vanilla Fudge! The guys from Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple. They were all going to see Vanilla Fudge back then!

  • Appice = blah blah blah ME ME ME blah blah blah

What a douche.... Yeah buddy whatever....

By the way you did not INVENT John Bonham. You're an idiot!!!!

  • @mppaiges Have you ever listened to Vanella Fudge or Beck,Bogart and Appice ?

  • Bonzo pretty much says the exact same thing about meeting CA as he is saying here. So does JB's brother who wrote a biography. He's not lying about this.

  • Apparently this is a double bass drum kit."Led Zeppelin - Communication Breakdown (Sweden TV 1969)" Minus the Quotations.I can't post links on here.just enter it in the search box...and stop the silly arguing.

  • I don't understand why some people are giving Carmine Appice such a bad rap—Did you happen to notice that at the end of his interview he says, "Great guy, fantastic drummer!!!" What's pompous or arrogant about that?

I'm sure John Bonham probably did get that bass drum lick off Carmine Appice—Let's face it, even though the English rock bands were fantastic, most of what they did was their British interpretation of American blues music...

  • @mppaiges how on earth do you know when jb knew or didnt know ca?

  • I don't see why some of the negative people here are bashing carmine...kudos to helping a fellow drummer!

  • @randobills Yeah but Appice is a dirty liar. John Bonham had never even heard of Carmen Appice when the first Led Zeppelin's album was cut. Appice is lieing about all of it. Bonham never played double bass drum kits. I've done my research, I've been a major in percussion in performing arts school since I started at 9 and I'm 16 now. I've done my research on Bonham since day 1 with him being my idol.

  • @sounddrums There is a black and white vid of bonham playing double BD, i think communication break down ( i dont really know enough about Zepplin i just remember seeing it) and maybe another from memory but i cant remember the song. im not familiar with Mr Appice but just the fact that you've been at a percussion institute for 7- 8 years and claim to have done your research about your #1 tells us you either suck at researching (hence being there for so long) or you dont know Bonham.

  • @sounddrums yes he did play a double bass drum kit 1 time look it up youll find it. I'm not tryin 2 b a dick but he did play 1 once

  • @randobills Exactly right—At the end of his interview, Carmine Appice says what a great guy John Bonham was and what a fantastic drummer he was. What the hell is everybody getting so uptight about???

  • not only did he teach john bonham everything he knew ...he wrote all of led zepps riffs ..humble fella -isnt he ?

  • the michael scott of music....

  • Great interview...Thanks...!

  • whether Carmine is/was an ass and/or if Bonzo was "Bonzo" is not material if those are The Facts. If true, then credit to John Henry for being wise enough to benefit from Carmine, and kudos to Carmine for being gracious and helpful to JH when he was still a "nobody." Why all the butt hurt? musicians don't exist and grow in a vacuum. i fail to hear any claims of glory here. i've seen them both live, and Appice was monster good, and, Bonham was, well, he was John Henry Bonham, which says it all.

  • And there it is people he's almost solely responsible for the honed talents of John Bonhan. Thanks!

  • Whole Lotta Criticism. Thin skins'll do that.

  • @MrJMontrose Emperor ftw

  • AWESOME!

  • I totally get this...it does sound real and genuine...I've heard that vanilla fudge album and song he's referencing...

only one thing I can't get past...it's that hair helmet...carmine...hell, I almost called him vinnie...carmine...take off the wig...you look like that chick from steel magnolias...

    werd

  • Why all the dislikes? Carmine loves John and look at the smile on his face when he's talking about him. I love and miss you John!

  • @Hearts64 I agree - Carmine speaks with fondness about Bonham and he got his Ludwig kit organised as well - what more could John have asked for! John could be an ass when he was pissed - it was no secret.

  • Carmine is awesome to talk with. You can read stories about Bonham being an ass, big time. Pissing his pants on a airplane, and making his drum tech switch seats. All i'm sayin is most everybody is an ass one time or another, but, both of these guys can play. John and Carmine, whens the last time you listened to Beck Boggart and Appice, or Cactus One Way Or Another disk. All Carmine is doing is sharing some info with us. Some inside shit. In the late 60's Vanilla Fudge rocked and nobody knew Zep

  • You are a bit of a goon dude..stop trying to take credit for 'inventing' John Bonham..you didn't, he did !! Vanilla Fudge-Packers were not that great either I'm afraid, sorry to be mean Peace ! x

  • I've never heard Carmine say "I take credit for bringing you John Bonham". He's merely sharing his experiences with the guy and most of it is well documented. If it wasn't for the stupidity and hostility that constantly runs thru your minds your heads would be totally empty.

  • ...Carmine has always been a drummer for hire, a journeyman drummer, he played in a few big bands, but to take credit for Bonham?? Shows what a typical bullshitting yank asshole he is!! Carmine has a girls name and he plays like one too!!

  • What an asshole...

  • this cat is a notorious bullshit artist.....his girlfriend who is a radio DJ even called him out on the radio a few years ago....I also worked for Foreigner while Jason Bonham was drumming for them...I guess around 2006 or 7 and he told me not to believe a word Carmine Appice says about his father

  • @moontheloon1127 I have to set you straight man."Before Bonahm ,before Ian Paice there was Carmine Appice." Rick Latham. How the hell would jason bonham(who sucks cock on drums) know anything about this subject. He wasn't even born or was just born when this stuff was going on and his father died in '79.Carmine had the heavy hard rock sound before Bonham not to mention he's a better drummer. What's right is what's right.

  • @moontheloon1127 meybe but everything he says in this is true

  • The first American Zep concert was in Denver!

  • Carmine, with all due respect...You may be able to scrub bonhams toilet..I'm as good as you, and your brother....

  • Carmine is telling the truth. If you can't handle that, then my advice is that you grow up.

  • @johnnyguitarca I never said Carmine was lying.

  • Kinda funny people are dissing Carmine as if he is lying about Bonham,I just watched a Bob Daisley interview and he confirmed his story, said that Carmine took him under his wing and in fact Carmine was one of his influences..Some people just hate hate hate.ASHENHOOVES,shut up

  • @SouthernPride76 I didn't say he was lying mr "not gonna respond and hide the post" wheres your pride now????

  • @ashenhooves Nobodys hiding anything punk..its right above your "waste of time" response.I know its very challenging for you to read but maybe you should read it again..

  • @SouthernPride76 I read it again and it still sounds like someone wearing a veil wrote it

  • @ashenhooves Ok numbnuts if you admit that he isn't lying and he is being honest about what he says so why did you even waste anyones time making a negative comment? Get over it.. asked the guy a question,he never said that he brought us Bonham. Two drummers complimenting each other,OMG!! and its an Evans drumhead interview imagine why he was talking about another drummer..Stop Cryin' Like a Bitch and appreciate the gift of great music you have been given before I crush your face

  • @SouthernPride76 your funny

  • Carmine Appice is one of my biggest influences, he is an amazing drummer. but dosnt deserve as much credit as he gets, i think it may be because he's one of the only great drummers left. I dont think he's trying to be all that the media's made him.

  • Carmine is a great drummer, but Bonzo was influenced by many other great drummers, including his close friends and peers. Bernard Purdie deserves more of a shout out for influencing Bonham with his shuffle beat technique

  • I have to say that have heard Carmine tell this story a few times and I don't think he is trying to take credit for Bonham's playing style at all. Carmine has been an influence on many of the great players and he was lucky enough to be there and help Bonham out when he Led Zep got their break to come to the US. Ludwig Drum made out signing Bonham, Carmine and having an unknown drummer named Ringo choose their drums before he made it big. God bless you Carmine and rock on!

  • Carmine who?

  • I heard he also copied moves from Mike Ricciardella (The Illusion. Network, Barnaby Bye).

  • if its true THEN why not tell it

    I WOULD & YOU WOULD

  • I was at the clinic when Bonham showed up. It was at Sam Ash in Paramus, NJ. One of the employees handed Carmine a note saying John Bonham was in the back, When he emerged & Carmine introduced him, everyone in the place stood up. Bonham stayed in view all of 5 seconds because he knew the crowd would never settle down if he hung out. Things were very different then. You rarely got to see a rock star up close, so it was a big deal. This was 1975 & Zeppelin was HUGE!

  • I'm practicing right now

  • i actually met carmine at a drum clinic at UND. ... he was a bit of an ass

  • @redapplefiend Was he an ass, or was it your insecurity as an amateur drummer showing through. He's been in the business 47 years and is a rockstar, what did you expect? That he greet you like long lost brother's?

  • @diamonddust22 No, but you think that he would be a nicer guy. When he finished the clinic, he did nothing but make rude comments to the musical professors from the school. Yes, I may be an amateur drummer, but I'm a mature enough human being to know when courtesy should be used. I never said he was a bad musician, or a bad person in fact, but just that he acted like an ass at that particular time. And where exactly is your career? Or don't you have one? And anyway Vinny's better.

  • @redapplefiend Who gives a shit. You don't like him, get the fuck off the page and go flap your gums somewhere else.

  • @diamonddust22 Oh... I think I struck one of your precious nerves! =O Don't worry, I'll leave you alone.

  • @redapplefiend Thank you for just revealing to me, that you get into fights all the times. Thank you for the default response that is only given by TROLLS, instigators, and antagonists. You are just an amateur idiot who shoots off his big fucking mouth more then he practices, and that is why you are a bitter miserable little bitch. You rehearse your and practice your mouth more then you ever practiced, and now you're fat and you suck at drums and you lash out. Blame yourself for that asshole

  • @redapplefiend Gotta go with you on that one, I think Vinnie really has a more discernible Style much more Influence as far as metal goes, I really can't remember too many Carmine Licks (cept the drum quad from a Rod stewart song maybe)but You Know when its a Vinnie Fill!! don't sweat dd22 he's doesn't really READ the post just goes off on some dumb thing...blah blah blah ... maybe he shoulld stop posting and practice his dumb ass.

  • Carmines Rock legacy would probably be better if he stopped trying to take Credit for bringing us Bonham. even if Bonham did hear and use something off a VF album guess what NOBODY REMEMBERS YOU DOING IT CARMINE!!!! Cause Bonham will always rule... and you can't stand that can you. Oh and your bro owns you too!!!

  • @ashenhooves You sound like an asshole. Through your rant you just exposed yourself as being a jealous bitter, miserable celebrity chasing pussy boy who loves gossip. If you spent more time practicing and learning to write songs, then shooting off your bitchy mouth you wouldn't suck as a musician. Oh and Camine has had a job as a musician non-stop for 47 years. How long have you had a job as a musician you lound mouthed cunt? That's right shut the fuck up and get off the page.

  • @diamonddust22 Thats your best ? weak... just like your response is gonna be....

  • @ashenhooves Get off the page you fucking troll faced cunt. Carmine has played for 47 years as a working musician and has earned every step of the way. Where is your career little boy.

  • @diamonddust22 yep like I said your response was weak, try again and don't repeat yourself, more cuss words would be nice. maybe drop some more f bombs or try calling me another name or something else more predictable and boring...

  • @ashenhooves Don't act like a victim here, because you are not in the position to. You came here to slag some guy who has had a career longer then you've been alive. Carmine is proud of his career and his experiences and is a leader in the industry. He has bragging rights. I mean his last big set of gigs was with Tony Iommi and Ronnie James Dio. John Paul Jones is and was amazing, but who's to say Carmine wasn't part of that picture as a friend? You shouldn't be so bitter about it.

  • @diamonddust22 1st off read my post (Carmines legacy etc) thats an honest comment, I mean don't YOU think Carmines legacy would be greater if he didn't keep reminding everybody about that young upstart? The Triplet kick thang is always referred to as a BONHAM trick NOT CARMINE trick & just because you did something first rarely means you did it best, innovative sure but maybe not mastered. 2. Vinnie played with Sabbath not Carmine. 3 I didn't say shit about John Paul Jones.

  • @ash My misprint, I meant to say John Bonham as I was just listening to John Paul Jones. Firstly, Doesn't matter is John Bonham did it better, he got it from somewhere, and he got it from Carmine, and so what if he talks about the "young upstart" as you put it, it's his story and part of his life, his experience, and his legacy and he can say it if he wants. What have you done that makes you qualified to talk about someone with a 47 year career other then being a miserable gossip and tabloider

  • @diamonddust22 And where did Carmine get it from?Bellson?Rich?Everybody gets something from somebody...But some people are remembered for it ask Robert Fripp he says he started tapping long before Van Halen But didn't think much of the technique. I did state that even if Bonham etc etc... Carmine can talk about whatever he wants,I've listened to his comments at Namms & many Workshops,That's what qualifies me.I am a Carmine Fan, just not his attitude... And The Sabbath Comment???

  • @ashenhooves Who gives a fucking shit. You sound like you are more into tabloid loving then actually doing anything musicial. You are just a miserable, bitter jack ass gossiping like a little kid. Do you think this is some kind of childish contest? When you have a musical career, the someone might listen to your gossip. Youa re not a Carmin fan, you are just a jerk who would rather gossip and talk then actually practice an instrument. Learn an instrument instead of practicing your mouth

  • @diamonddust22 back to the cussing, I guess your outta ideas..back to the boring predictable same ol same ol...

  • @ashenhooves No you just deserve a serious brow beating because you're nothing more then a talking hand puppet and a gossiping fool putting down a guy who has done more in 47 years as a musician then you will ever do in 5 lives.

  • @diamonddust22 so whos gonna give the brow beat?

  • @ashenhooves Karma. You've already done to yourself what no one else can do. If you practice your mouth more then an instrument, you have serious issues.

  • @diamonddust22 so you ran out of stuff to really say and resorted back to your opening and the funny thing about this whole deal is your so far up Carmines ass you don't realize when his ass ends and Vinnies begins so remind me again when Carmine played in Sabbath ...

  • @ashenhooves I ran out of things to say? No, I just realized you were a lost cause and a waste of fucking flesh. So tell me, why is it you know more about useless information then actually playing an instrument? You writing a book, or do you think you are going to become a rock-Star through osmosis. I walked aways because I was taking pity on a loser with a big mouth who practices his tongue wagging more then he ever practiced an instrument. Grow up or shut up.

  • @diamonddust22 oh here you are...back again couldn't keep walkin could you?

  • @ashenhooves Not are you stupid you can't rea can you. I walked away and said nothing to your last response, but when you you further responded and said I ran out of things to say as you made another smart fucking remark like the troll you are, you deserved what came next. I walked away, but you can't keep your mouth shut because you are nothing more then a loser who can't play an instrument yet seems to know all the gossip about every other musician who actually can play an instrument.

  • @diamonddust22 Oh and obviously YOU give a shit

  • @ashenhooves I give a shit about real musicians who've paid their dues and I don't care for lound mouthed punks like you spreading bullshit about someone else's character. Go learn and instrument and shut your mouth for a while

  • @ashenhooves tbh hes hardly bragging and trying to get credit hes just telling a fucking story about how he met him

  • @Motorhead thats an honest response to what I posted and if thats how you see it well ....thats ok.Carmines legacy is secure. If you've met Carmine (I have Numerous times mostly at Namm) he constantly comes off smug etc...he'd be smug if he worked at a bank, so I still stand by my statement about his legacy. now the other dude who just came out cussin and wearing his Team C shirt and Talking a bunch o bull shit about how Carmine was in Sabbath/H&H =dumb. Just playin that fool, watch him respond

  • @ashenhooves come on, carmine seems cool about it and i appreciate his story about it and i believe they were friends.

  • @ashenhooves Carmine acknowledged not remembering doing it. Carmine doesn't need to make it up as he's one of the most connected guys in the industry. He was an ambassador for Ludwig since 67 I think.

I can state that Carmine was one of biggest name drummers in the late 60's. He was influential. Don't forget, Beck chose Carmine over Cozy!

  • @crosscatch I think Beck chose Carmine clearly a "Bigger " name, but I'd a picked Cozy.

  • @crosscatch Beck chose Bogert and Appice because he liked their work with the Fudge. As for Appice over Powell,... It was the both of them he wanted. I believe they were supposed to get together a couple of years earlier but Beck had the accident which took him out of it for a while. I saw them the first week they were together at the Arie Crown Theater. Very impressive. Local boy Kim Milford (RIP) on vocals. I believe he was fired after that show and Clive was brought back to finish the tour.

  • @ashenhooves

oh stop, Carmine is the man. He's getting older and wants his due. He deserves it more than bonham, honestly. IMO.

  • @PositivelyBored LMAO, you dont know sryrs talking about...

  • @ashenhooves John Bonham remembered him doing it so why don't you admit that bonham wasn't born great, he learned from others.

  • @ashenhooves he said he was influenced by him haha

  • I heard him tell us (the audience), when Led Zep opened for Vanilla Fudge..
