Well I think it's clear. Mac is for people with cash to burn who want a sexy, beautiful, simple, well thought out, and easy-to-use OS. It is great for doing relatively simple tasks like managing photos and simple videos, simpler office functions, browsing, music, porn. I could go on forever, but I'll just stick with saying "simpler stuff". PCs are for people who want more power (only an issue with massive games and extreme video editing), cheaper price, and complex office software. Understand?
@batmannotahero PCs are much more compatible with software, so if you want to be able to run practically any software/game, go for a PC. That being said, I love Macs for simpler stuff as well as music editing (except FL Studio), video editing, and graphic design.

@freakencheaken depends on where you shop, yeah, alien wear is high performance + high price, but that's just alien ware. if you actually work on it yourself, you can get 24gig ram, 12tb storage with multiple high end video cards for less than $3,000. you just have to know(or know someone who knows) what they are doing. I've got two uncle's that program for apple, and sing its praises, I've still got 5 pages of various individual performance issues mac can't handle for beans.

Also, for $3000 you can get an alienware with 6cores, 12GB triple channel ram, 2 2GB radeon 6950 video cards in SLI, and either 512GB SSD or a terabyte of platter drive storage. @s0stwin No i have a Mac and the reason i bought it because its a good peice of hardware with a fantastic OS on it. Its based on Unix which works well for my work. And it has a nice shinny GUI on top it for when i dont want the command line. MacBook Pro laptops are high quality hardware and if you cant see that then you probably have a chip on your shoulder for apple. I also have a PC running both linux and Windows and i can say OSX gives me much less hassle than 7. so im no "noob mac user"
I accidentally dropped my crappy low end Packard Bell from about 1.5 meters, all that broke was a small plastic panel on the underside which was replaced for a mere 20 DKR (Around 4 USD).
My schoolmate let go of his MacBook Pro 13-inch about 30 centimeters over a table, totalled the HDD...

The problem with the PC's argument is, a $400 PC won't run video games. It might walk them, or crawl them. Also, a $400 PC likely won't run next year's software, or you'd have to buy $400+ worth of upgrades. I have an eMac that is still quite useful, despite being 7 years old, and a 5-year old iMac that is still more than effective. The only reason I replaced my MacBook after 5 years was the fan gave out, and I stripped the head of an assembly screw and couldn't get to replace it. I prefer Macs.

Now with Thunderbolt and PCI enclosures, you can also add PCI cards to MacBook Pros and iMacs. You can also add things by USB 2.0 (a Thunderbolt USB 3.0 adapter seems to be in the works). Macs can be upgraded almost as much as a PC can. Recall, though, that hardware hackers are not Apple's target market.

@ctsincebay I have to use Linux for work. It manages in areas where Windows fails. You should also consider that Linux includes many different operating systems, some are good, some are bad. In general I would rather use a Linux operating system than Windows.

@ctsincebay As a bioinformatician it's easier to use Linux as the software is mostly developed for Linux and in general works better. The fact that most bioinformaticians use Linux systems rather than Windows makes using Windows in the bioinformatics field practically a waste of time. So I don't give two fucks what you think. All that matters is what you need a system to do, and for me Linux is superior.

@freakencheaken depends on where you shop, yeah, alien wear is high performance + high price, but that's just alien ware. if you actually work on it yourself, you can get 24gig ram, 12tb storage with multiple high end video cards for less than $3,000. you just have to know(or know someone who knows) what they are doing. I've got two uncle's that program for apple, and sing its praises, I've still got 5 pages of various individual performance issues mac can't handle for beans.

Also, for $3000 you can get an alienware with 6cores, 12GB triple channel ram, 2 2GB radeon 6950 video cards in SLI, and either 512GB SSD or a terabyte of platter drive storage. Put that same $3000 towards a mac and what's the best you can get?

I love how all Mac users say that macs are better the pc's just cause they have a better security features. If thats the case why not get linux? @s0stwin No i have a Mac and the reason i bought it because its a good peice of hardware with a fantastic OS on it. Its based on Unix which works well for my work. And it has a nice shinny GUI on top it for when i dont want the command line. MacBook Pro laptops are high quality hardware and if you cant see that then you probably have a chip on your shoulder for apple. I also have a PC running both linux and Windows and i can say OSX gives me much less hassle than 7. so im no "noob mac user"

I accidentally dropped my crappy low end Packard Bell from about 1.5 meters, all that broke was a small plastic panel on the underside which was replaced for a mere 20 DKR (Around 4 USD).
My schoolmate let go of his MacBook Pro 13-inch about 30 centimeters over a table, totalled the HDD...
So yeah, real fucking great quality hardware.
And nobody says you are a noob Mac user, just that only noobs use Macs.

The problem with the PC's argument is, a $400 PC won't run video games. It might walk them, or crawl them. Also, a $400 PC likely won't run next year's software, or you'd have to buy $400+ worth of upgrades. I have an eMac that is still quite useful, despite being 7 years old, and a 5-year old iMac that is still more than effective. The only reason I replaced my MacBook after 5 years was the fan gave out, and I stripped the head of an assembly screw and couldn't get to replace it. I prefer Macs.

Mac OS X 10.0 "Cheetah" was released in March of 2001, and was (like all subsequent versions of OS X) based on Darwin, Apple's open-source derivative of BSD Unix. Mac OS X is a successor to NextStep, which was always Unix-based.

@ryan123456781 You can actually swap the hard drive out of Mac notebooks and iMacs, and upgrade the RAM. You can add cards to Mac Pros, providing the manufacturer makes drivers for OS X. Now with Thunderbolt and PCI enclosures, you can also add PCI cards to MacBook Pros and iMacs. You can also add things by USB 2.0 (a Thunderbolt USB 3.0 adapter seems to be in the works). Macs can be upgraded almost as much as a PC can. Recall, though, that hardware hackers are not Apple's target market.
