I can't imagine any one else singing this and it still sounding the way it does. This is one of the best in my opinion! Was there ever any 12" versions from the 70's albums?
I dont know who made this video, thanks for including my photo with Susaye. That photo was taken at the Royal Hawaiian Supper Club in Virginia, Susaye's debut show as a Supreme......Norwin
Vocally the Supremes were at their best with this line up. I thought maybe Motown would take the girls back to the top. So many unfortunate elements got in the way and killed the group off.
Wow this song is hot !! This song should of been a 3rd or 4th hit after Let Yourself Go and You are the Heart of Me. Such a damn shame, what the hell Mr. Gordy ? Too busy promoting his girlfriend Dirty Diana but don't have the time to check and help promote These talented ladies. I love this song. Yeah this should of been on the 70's anthology cd. Nice Work Sherrie, Mary, and Susaye. You go ladies !!!

mary, scherrie and susaye WAS and still IS one of my all-time favourite albums...incredible how sophisticated and funky these tracks were....this should be at least a CULT CLASSIC!
This entire LP was hot - played the heck out of it in college in 1977 and everyone was like This is the Supremes !!! Too bad Motown didn't promote it. Wonderful work by Mary and the ladies - proved they didn't need Miss Ross. This was the highlight of many of our parties.
This entire album was excellent. I wore my copy out years ago. Motown just never promoted it. The Supremes sounded the best after Ross left. Please post more if you can ivyfield . Thanks
This is one of the best songs of this type from the 70's in my opinion. It did not try to copy donna summer or anyone else. it was like a great new direction for the supremes. one of my favourite songs of any supremes lineup.
This was a terrific song! Just loved the vocals. I played it constantly every time I got home. Thanks for this~~~~ Thought I would never hear this again. Great video by the way.
What a nice surprise ....I thought I would never hear this song again. It was my favorite from this album. Loved the background vocal and just felt overall another hit for the ladies. Thanks for posting this.
This is my fav song from their best album. And one good thing about this album is Mary was settled with two beautiful ballads and let Scherrie sing others, which she should have done a long before that. I do not mean to bash Mary, but her talent is limited compared to Scherrie's, and I guess most of music fans agree with me besides fanatic fans of Mary. I thought finally they were going to the right direction, then they disbanded. Too bad!
These set of Supremes could sing and the material that they sang was good but let be real clear that Motown or should IU say Barry did back them. Remember the 4 Tops ,Gladys Knight and The Pips and the The Temptations had left Motown even Marvin Gaye was cutting his tide with Motown. I wish they would had left Motown and then mayby they would have gotten a better shot with success.
I remember this song with much fondness, My hot meter was sizzling in small town palmetto florida, My Love Affair with C. Poole was heating up like an Iron. Thanks for the memories Mary, Scherrie and Susaye, High Hot Energy.
What A journey Life has been and still continues to be. You never know where life will take you and yesterdays time becomes todays great memories.
I love the 70's Supremes. I have this album, with Mary's autograph. This isn't one of my favorite songs on it, though it's okay. "You're My Driving Wheel" and "I Don't Want to be Tied Down" get those honors.
What a great song from this album I love. This could have been a HIT single. Many girl groups at the time, but only The SUPREMES could've taken on an opus like this -- it just "sounds" like a Supremes record. Good stuff, thank you for bringing this back via YouTube.
Wow You are right! This was the best and strongest Supreme vocal line up. To me this was the best album they had done post Diana. Let Yourself Go was their best and my favorite song. Thanks for posting. A great song!!!
mary has pretty alto very smooth ,and obviously she could sing she was the chosen ballader of the group u can here voice on the chorus of this song she may have limited range but her voice is strong and capable Do not come for Mary Wilson The true Supreme
Diana respects ALL of the 70s Supremes. Working with Lynda and Scherrie in 2000 is one point despite the failure. Not so long ago I saw a High Energy album on eBay with a Diana Ross autograph!
This song should have been included in the 70's anthology. This song drips sex!! The three ladies, each, added their own sex appeal and voice to it. Scherrie with her big voice, Mary with her jazzy sexy alto, Susaye with her crisp clean soprano. Just SUPREMELY DIVINE!!!!
mary had NO voice. Watch Bad Weather from the Kate Smith Show. Mary Blocked Jean And Sherry from gettin in the Rock Hall of Fame. mary is in and they're out ! mw is a PIG. Dennis Edwards was inducted with the Tempts

Yes she does have a flat, off-key, colorless, and powerless amateur alto. Now go take your psych meds and relax. Mary and you need to put down that crack pipe, at least once or twice a day now, too.

@hazelman i say the same thing whenever i hear this song... i have the 70's anthology & the greatest hits & rare classic, i felt a lil cheated when i heard this(LOL)
"We Should Be Closer Together" and "Let Yourself Go" are my fave songs - especially "You're My Driving Wheel", and their remake of Dionne Warwick's classic "You Are The Heart Of Me" (which Mary did an beautiful lead).
Love Sherrie + Mary sharing leads, two totally different voices, they go well togather. This is one of my alltime favotite albums, + the first MarySupremes album I bought, hope its released on cd soon, at least some of the other tracks are on th 70s Anthology
I have to admit, it isn't easy to resist Scherrie. Considering she was the last lead of the group. She pulled it off well. She is also very pretty. I saw her in the "Return To Love" tour with Diana. She did a solo of "Stoned Love" which I was surprised, she belted it out like she was 20. I always loved Jean's version. Scherrie, However took it to a whole new level.
Its not that Mary "couldn't" sing, its just that she didnt have a powerful voice like Sherrie or a sweet voice like Diana (had in the 1960's) You cant write a song ment for Sherrie Payne and give it to Mary and expect it to sound the same, it would sound like garbage. In the 70's it wasnt bad but hearing the now 63 year old Mary. Now she sounds bad
That is so true and then the obvious happened. The group fell apart. Mary was good at looking pretty and acting totally SUPREME...She should have quit when she was ahead.
SHE CANNOT SING AND SHE IS JEALOUS OF ANY LEAD SINGER OF THE SUPREMES!!!
Well Mary sure was good at forming a new group. She forgot to give them a name. Fortunarely you really can't hear her untalented voice that Diana, Jean, and ScherrIe SUPREMELY MASKED OVER THE YEARS!!!
WOW...I'm having vague memories of this song...for some reason I thought it was Either the Three Degree or the Jones girls...it has that Gamble and Huff sound about it...I am definintely becoming reaquainted with the 70's Supremes and loving them all over again...I agree...this line up of Mary, Scherrie and Susaye was good...esp for the mid/late 70's sound of Motown.
I have ALWLAYS LOVED this song! And Randy, of course, I'm jealous buddy! <smile> But THIS "IS" "Ultimate SUPREME" and will always BE proof that they WERE just That even in the final stage! HOT!!
I guess I was of the age where I didn't know a thing about the pre-Scherrie years, so this record was the Supremes for me. I think this record really kicked ass, especially this song, Driving Wheel and We Should Be Closer. I think this song is similar to what Labelle would record.

@br942 I agree...MSS was probably the best overall LP that the Mary/Scherrie Supremes did together, and some of the best stuff the Holland Brothers had done in a long time...I think, just one more album would have been even more masterfull..."Sweet Dream Machine", "You're My Driving Wheel" (amazing piano and arrangement), "Come Into My Life"...these songs were like a Supremes Opus!!, and the rest of the album fits around them so nicely...I still have 2 copies of this album and a turntable!!
