  • I love this shyt.........yup... but everyone's right... the drummer is killing this song.. I loveeeeeeeeee it.................... AWB is still tight... the first time I saw them was @ Winterland in S.F. in the 70's... the best time of my life...ily them.... yup.... :)))))))

  • Man, that drummer is punishing that groove!!! Not too this and not too that. All his adlibs are in the right places. The secret to good music especially funk is that the silence, space and gaps in the song is music also and it has to be heard. The music has to breath...

  • WOW! Saw them live in concert along with Tower of Power last night in L.A. im still dancing!

  • The definition of Funk. If your not tapping your foot to this your soul is dead

  • This is so soulful, and un-scripted. As I listen I can't wait to hear the next riff, drum beat and voice inflection. So Good. More of this and less violence laced music.

    Thanks for sharing

  • We need more bands like this.. I mean just junk groups man !

  • they showed out at the house of blues they were beautiful

  • thats uncut funk

  • I LOVED THIS BAND SINCE THEY FIRST CAME ON THE SEEN AND SAW THEM TWICE AND THEY ARE AS NASTY OF JAZZ FUNK BAND IN THE LAND AND YES I REMEMBER STEVE FERRINE WAS THEIR DRUMMER BUT THIS GUY IS WICKED HE KEEPS IT IN THE POCKEST AWESOME MUSICIANSHIP ITS ASHAME NOT MANY BANDS LIKE AWB THANKS

  • That Drummer is tight.

  • The young fella on the drums is doing his thing!

  • This drummer can really keep time! Very good! He finds this song's groove.

  • @reith2 Adam Dietch...check him out on some J Schofield stuff and his own band Lettuce. Hes da bomb.

    xKooz

  • heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy just a little bit....man....this use to be the joint......dang this take me back......these white boys always sound like they was brothas from the hood...and they still look good...heyyyyyy

  • @brownstone65 remember music has NO color talent is talent gifts r gifts which they have but Hamish was the true voice this guy is good but u can't beat the orginal

  • Scottish Funk and GO-GO...exactly! Just pure funk and soul...Much luv to the AWB!!!

  • If everyones hearth would beat the way that Adam Deitch drumms the world would be a better place !! Adam youre truely amazing!!

  • Hands Down! This Funk has moved me from the 70's up to now. I still get that feel'n cause its right!

  • REAL MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My wife and I shall witness a night in funkin heaven at the House of Blues A.C NJ. Tower of Power also there. I'm like the Cheshire cat with a bag full of music notes ready for dinner! Thanks odack. I'll let you know if this SB Crush version stands.

  • ABOVE AVERAGE!! Still one of my favorite groups from back in the day...when everyone played an instrument and EVERYONE could sing!

  • Pure talent, these guys were sampled so much by everyone, including " Rakim" What a talented group that crossed color lines with they music during a very revolutionary time, and that took a lot, so thats pure talented, hats off. I hope they are in the R.R. H.O.F. if not then shame! shame! somebody's slipping..

  • There is not a year that goes by that I dont at least see them ONCE EVERY YEAR and every single time they are in my town for the last 20 years. Went out of town many of nights to see them in other towns...One of my best groups

  • Nasty bass line...rocks your spine

  • This song has soul What a groove Great to play along to Funk is it Wish it was a widespread as rap

  • I'm a dj in Pittsburgh, PA and do an Old School show at a strip club on Saturday nights. AWB is one of those bands that makes you dance whether you're sitting down or standing up. I love preahing the gospel of funk to the younger people in my audience.Cut The Cake, If I Ever Lose This Heaven, and School Boy Crush are all totally different songs but have one thing in common...LONG LIVE THE GROOVE!

  • See now this is REAL music. I'm a college student and I cant stand half the crap my peers listen to.

  • Fine tune... and (as you can telll here) really comes off great in their live shows.

  • I am black, but I'm sorry this was in heavy rotation on our record player. We didn't care that they were white bacause it was good music, still is.

  • @vnash750 No need to apologize for enjoying good music. Of course the music is good. The Average White Band's efforts were influenced by ABOVE Average Black performers, the ORIGINATORS OF FUNK. How could any credible imitation of that music not be good? Just remain mindful of the realities of which John Mayer recently demonstrated when it comes to white performers in traditionally Black music genres. Often, those white performers and their white fans grow to believe themselves to be superior.

  • My god vnash750 thank god for your common sense attitude. Please explain this to outrundaylite.

  • NWA

  • Calm down gang.. the point is they are white but they are the badest white grooving band that have soul.. I love them always have and always will... they are fantastic . Yes they are european and they have a sound that suits them most major bands and individual singers have all been influenced by black music anyone of them will admit to that...but it's ok music is music.. let's not get it twisted there is always a race issue in America no matter what.. if you don't beleive that watch the news!

  • Hey Louise, Don't bring race into such a great sound as AWB, isn't the world messed up enough??? I'm a white dude who grew with brothers and we didn't look at each other as black and white and we still don't. We grew with the sounds of AWB, Heatwave, Isley Brothers and the great Earth, Wind and Fire. So this kind of music should unite races not divide we have to look at the positives in today's world not the negatives just ask the President. I'm sure he grew up on the same groove as we did.

  • @TheSteelerfan247 Good call!!! only time i will ever agree with a steelers fan haha

  • Thanks Slliks67, your tracking what I'm saying. The world is to jacked up. Oh and by the way you must be a Browns fan, LOL. See us Steeler fans aren't that bad after all. LOL.

  • @TheSteelerfan247 COWBOYS fan haha

  • You tell Louise not to "bring race into such a 'great sound' as AWB" when I can count on more fingers than I'll ever have, comments posted by white listeners calling AWB "the funkiest white boys", "best white funk band ever" and ect... #1 the sound ISN'T AWB's. This SOUND is Funk Music, a genre of Soul Music originated by Black Americans and made globally popular. Many white fans have always gone bonkers over any white performer who could do a credible imitation of Black music. Just ask Elvis.

  • Good point mate, but try telling that to outrundaylite, that man has serious race issues. But he is just a sad old bigot. Shame on him. Its only music, and as you said, it should unite races. I said that Kurt Elling is the greatest jazz singer on the planet at the moment, I never mentioned him being white, and all I got back was 7 messages of abuse. WHY? Check out his comments on The Isleys ''work to do''..... I think that the man is mad, I hope Barrack can help him see the world in a better way

  • it's good to see awb. it's been a long time, they will always be one of the best horn section's i've heard and one of the best bands of the 70's. good job on the video i grew up living in the 70's there was nothing like it. again very good job on the video

  • I grew up listening to AWB as well and they distinguished themselves as great musicians PERIOD. It's classic R&B, I loved them because they were not only great musicians but they were great vocalists as well. As a drummer I grew up emulating the style of their original drummer who was the funkiest cat that I had ever heard at that time.

  • I'm an African-American woman in my 50s and I love this performance. I don't care that they are white. I love music!

  • You are an individual case. There are many white Americans male and female, who love this performance and this "Average WHITE Band" because the band is white, says they are white and is able to reflect Black American-created Funk music back at its creators. Many white fans didn't go berserk over New Kids On The Block until it was revealed the boys were white and not Black. Many whites love Black music and love it more when white performers are able to bring that music to them It's always been so

  • YajaBeige, I must salute you on your honesty ,and thats all that it is ''music''........ Please explain this to outrundaylite, he really has some really bad issues going on.

  • I'm a fan of AWB as I grew up on their music in the 70s and they are great artists. If the music is great as with the AWB are, there should not be a Youtube debate about whether it is black or white. It is great music from a once great time in U.S. History, period.

Now, think about this, when the Righteous Brothers debuted on the Ed Sullivan show in the early 60s, there was a big question as to whether they were African American. All I can say I lost money on the bet. They were great!

  • AWB is Scottish, not American. Black Americans are RESPONSIBLE for some ot the greatest music in "U.S. History, PERIOD"! Indeed, Jazz is called America's Original Artform and I shouldn't have to remind you or anyone else that Jazz music was created by Black Americans. Music has always had a racial component because white America has always had a seeming resentment of Black American cultural dominance where popular music has been concerned. AWB isn't really all that. They're very good emulators.

  • They sound better now than ever. True masters of their craft.

  • And they say white boys can't funk

  • too short............. eat your heart out

  • I remember seeing awb for the first time on soul train, and was flabbergasted that they were actually white...lol. Not only that, not one band member was from the U.S.

  • Many white people get so excited about seeing white performers who prefer Black music over white music, who study Black performers and practice hard to imitate those Black performers, and then do a credible job emulating those Black performers. What's the big deal? It's really no surprise that none of these whites are from the U.S. The Beatles and Stones studied Black artists more than white artists. So did AWB. Foreign whites appreciate US Black music moreso than US whites.

  • why make music racial? There's nothing political about this. I'm black and grew up listening to this band. Besides one of the greatest compliments is emulation. The big deal is this was a great band in their own right. Actually it wasn't even an all white band, the original drummer was black and was killed in a car accident.

  • Why make it racial? Ask those who write comments lauding the band's white composition. When it comes to Black American music, whites and white Americans especially, have always made it a racial thing. White Americans preferred to have Little Richard's genuis reach their ears filtered through the blandness of the emulator Pat Boone. And your wrong. The original AWB drummer was white and died of a drug overdose I believe. His replacement was the black drummer.

  • Why make music racial? Just ask the individual who posted the comment "and they say white boys can't funk". it's long been recognized that white Europeans are able to get into Black music more easily than are white Americans. Many white Europeans love Black music and study the music intensely. white American racism seems to have impeded their ability to do the same. Hence, white Americans rave about "British Invasions", white Brits playing Black-inspired music.

  • why make music racial? Saying they weren't able to think of a better name, AWB chose "average white band" they said as an inside joke they shared with a friend. Convenient reasoning to say the least as they were white artists performing recognized Black American music. And then there's Young Black Teenagers - none of them Black, but 4 whites and 1 Puerto Rican. Contrary to those who say music has no color, music does in fact have both color and culture. Black music and music culture is powerful.

  • Its an interesting debate, because a lot of great black music has been made by whites (take Cropper and Dunn), but the fact is at one time their was a distinct black sound until the 80's. AWB and TOP were two of the few that convincingly crossed the line. The great thing about today is that you can play whatever music you want regardless of your race... That said, true, racial identity and culture shaped the music. note: Ferrone was black, Garibaldi was white, both were funky !

  • You wont win with outrundaylite.

  • @letsdance1978 so this is where rakkim got his rip from??? WOW

    nothing is original!! XD

    im 18 btw

  • I grew up on white music you can never take anything from it! Hall & Oates,Teena Marie, Elton John, Rolling Stones, Queen ......The list goes on and on ..................Music is Universal!

  • Hall&Oates, Teena Marie, Rolling Stones learned most if not all of the principles they applied to the music they played from US Blacks. Hall&Oates and Teena Marie especially didn't play "white music". Teena Marie learned her craft from her one-time lover Rick James - a BLACK man. Hall&Oates emulated their idols, the Temptations of Mighty Motown fame. These white performers weren't trying to play Hank Williams or Conway Twitty music i.e. TRUE "white music".

  • bless me 4 discovering y'all. I hope they perform in VA.
