i thank HPP for that info! helped me in understanding my tranny sept 03 Vol 24 #9 i had a 4 speed that was from a 301 in mine at first and i blew it up a few weeks ago on the interstate running 80 damn what a sound to! then found one for a 400 and i can tell just alittle difference in the two mainly in first and 2nd
1st and 2nd gear are different, first gear is a 3:42 2nd gear is 2:28 and 3rd is 1:46 Nowforthe 4 speeds that came with 400's 1st gear is 2:43 2nd is 1:76 3rd is 1:47. ther are 3 different kinds of maincases in for T-10's to #902 is gray iron #903 the maincase is aluminum #904 the case is nodular iron. 1304-065 is the rest of the serial number for maincases the tailhouse casting# 13.04.066.905 sidecover casting#13-04-097-901 rear bearing retainer casting# t89c-6A. so thats it for BW 4 speeds 79
hey 15sp4250 u do know that your 4 speed is not like the ones that were put in the 400 cars they are have different gear set up. i have the numbers if u want them.
good point fiream: the 301 4 speeds are the same tranny, just have a slightly lower first gear ratio to help the weaker 301 get the car moving easier.
Well, from what I read it puts out about 185hp and I'm old and decrepid... as my son would say, and I can only go so fast on the highways... so I'm a realist and good to go! Thanks for your input...
I just bought a bandit style TA with a 403 and pick it up in 10 days. Really looking forward to it. I'll have to take your word that it has some power. Sweet looking car though...
don't take my word, the 403 is an olds engine & the lowest hp option for these cars. mine is a pontiac 400 & has been rebuilt to higher than factory hp. you may not be happy with the as stock performance of the 403....but it's still a t/a & can always be built up!
thanks! your 301 4/sp car is actually quite rare, the 4 speed trans was a very rare option with a pontiac 301 motor. if its original i would consider keeping the 301 or at least hang onto it if you use the 400. my car is a 4 speed with the 400, they are fun to drive!
Dude, i envy you haha, this car is so badass, i love the black with red interior, actually my dream car would be a 79' T/A black with red interior, t-tops, manual transmission (i'd probly swap for a T56), and i'd probly swap for a newer LS engine for the amazing mileage and power they can get, just cam it up for that beefy sound thats oh so necessary
My first car was a 91' RS Camaro, auto with 305, T-tops (never had any leaks even with 3 Indiana winters) still have it and still love it
never say never. lol i bought mine for 500 bucks. original. old man just didnt want it anymore. had a few kinks but it hadnt been cranked in 10 years so i expected it. but its always possible just look hard enough.
beautifully restored firebird..im not to into the flows cuz they hush to much. and i like the bark mags and dynos, but i bet its nice to cruise in with out a head ache when you want one ahaha
nice... without looking at the des i guessed a 79.... i was close, im gettin an 02 firebird, what should i put on it, cherry bombs, magnaflow, or flow master??
I miss all my F body cars, expecially my Firebird Formula
