  • one day i will go there !

Greetings from Bielefeld, NRW, Germany :D

  • I'm from Detroit. born and lived there for 25 years. Let's face it people most of the city of Detroit is a shithole or close to it. Most of the suburbs are the place to live and work. COLEMAN YOUNG RUINED the city during his many years in office. I moved to Southern California in 1986 and went back for a visit to my old neighborhood on Vaughan St near JOY RD and EVERGREEN around 1998 and my old working class neighborhood was a GHETTO. Drug dealers hanging out on the corners and everything.

  • what we need to do is pickup a piece of paper. Try. Detroit loves you!

  • I really want to thank you for showing the good in Detroit. I think all people think of when they think of Detroit is ruins. But there is so much more. And while we still need to focus on the ruins and restore them, we need to look at the good. Thanks again!

  • i ben to heart plaza!! i go to the airport all the time!!i BEEN TO GREENFIELD VILLAGE ON A FIELD TRIP!!!!!!!

  • Hitsville USA

  • Sweet, I'll have to do one on Hillsdale, MI

  • just good to see some other things of detroit things they're not abandoned or creepy and ghostly suburbs ... nice vid ...

  • hey, so not ALL of Detroit is empty like they show in the media right?

for example they make the Downtown (i think) area look empty as well as other parts of Detroit. I never been there but it depresses to think that a city in our country can be so empty.

so again, are only certain parts of Detroit in ruins???

forgive my ignorance, i've never been to Detroit but i've been fascinated with the city for a while

  • Dearborn and Troy are surrounding cities. I don't consider them part of this city.

  • Depends on what part of Detroit and what time.I wouldn't recommend going through the cass corridor at night.Even during the day the businesses have bells that you have to ring to get into(cass).I don't go down there very often.

  • Detroit ain't what dutch people think, i think, is it very dangerous?? i thought i heard that

  • you know, this is truly sad that you people choose to bash Detroit every chance you get. Like your suburbs with your meth labs, sexual predators, wacko husbands hacking their wives to pieces and out of control teenagers destroying everything in sight (amongst other things) are so much safer. I'm sorry that some of you have had bad experiences but Detroit is not as bad of a place as you racists try to make it seem. And if you feel that it is, Stay on your side of 8 mile and I will stay on mine.

  • I agree it is a major city you got the good and bad but since it is mostly black it got to be bad

  • Jamie we drove through Detroit after the 888 YT meet up at 5am thinking we'd miss rush hour.

Well let me tell you I wouldn't want to see it as at 5am it was busy enough.

  • Lol,yah that is usually the beginning of it.I leave at 4:30am and hit traffic and I am not headed toward Detroit.:)

  • So if you leave at 4:30 am what time do you get to work?

  • I get to work around 4:45.My start time is 5:00am.I like to get there early because you never know what might happen.I almost hit a deer on the way to work one time.Sometimes there is a skunk walking around when I get to work and I have to wait until he leaves.:)

  • lol chicken.

  • I recently conducted a tour of the city for 10people. We reached the beautiful Art Deco Gaurdian Building, located in the heart of downtown. We stopped for a restroom break, my little group was too frighted to get out of the van! This continued untill we safely reached the outskirts of the city. If you know what's good for you, stay the Hell away from this place!

  • Oh Shut up IFlick If the people really were scared they must never go out. Because I really dont belive you have been to Detroit its not as bad as u say or think.

  • In other circumstance, we would evacuate those at highest risk - Black people between the ages of twelve and thirty six. Bus them to "safe" points outside the ruins of the city. They could be cared for until provisions could be made. But this isn't "other circumstances" There has to be collateral damage.

  • They were afraid to go into the Guardian Bldg.??? What kind of group was it---a group of morons? What an idiotic post!

  • So far so good, but crime is a huge problem in this area. If GM has to file chapter 11, then its getting really bad around there. You can already buy a house in the north of Detroit for a thousand bucks! And I am not talking about a ruin!

  • Detroit=Chocolate City North.....I wish another Katrina would just level Detroit

  • like any other city, it has its blight, but over all Detroit is a nice city. Get rid of the mafia which is bankrupting the city and you would see some outstanding changes!

  • the only safe part of detorit is the airport cause there is so much security

  • It seems like the downtown area is ok...it's the surrounding areas of the city that are dangerous and 'ghetto'.

  • the downtown area is still extremely dangerous-it just isn't as run down

  • Yes, I agree it is still dangrous, but it is not very dangerous. I went to the fire works one year, the only time I decided to enjoy an event down town, and one block away some one got SHOT right in the downtown, I did not hear it becuase they did it when the fire works started. One the person I took asked me why are all those people running I said LOL its Detroit Probably some stupid shit goin on.

  • Go Wings !!!

  • i love michigan :( i hate moving

  • The Canadians say - that river keeps the Detroit trash out!

  • Rock on for posting that. Michigan-born here (Farmington).

  • I am happy someone put this up my home town isn't all bad

  • I'm glad things are starting to look up.

Been living in the D for 20 years and still here.

  • i am so happy to finally see a positive video about Detroit..My hometown

  • I know!

  • I love michigan. I was born there, but i now live in connecticut. i love Detroit.

  • I was born in Detroit too.:) They have made some improvements down there, but there needs to be more.

  • Wow that was great seeing Detroit, MI and I enjoyed seeing where I am from. I now live in California and I miss Detroit, but I do not miss the Winter weather!!!

  • I understand that,I'm getting tired of winter. We have had so much snow this year. When the temps are in the single digits sometimes I wish I didn't live here.:)

  • Hey im from this area.I now live in Virginia.I hated Uncle Coleman .I lived near Michigan and Livernois How about you ?

  • Haven't lived in Detroit since I was 2,but I have lived in the suburbs of Detroit all my life.

  • ahhhhhhhhhh Detroit. What a nice place. Even though half of it is boarded up and filled with gangs it has really nice downtown and a few other areas. Michigan alone is beautiful.

  • What can I say? There have been improvements, but they do still need more.Your right Michigan is a beautiful state.:)

  • I LOVE basketball Jamie! I actually coach it but the kids are waaaaayyyy better than me!!! lol

Detroit looks an amazing city.I would love to go there someday : )

    Billy....xx

  • My son is pretty good at basketball. He joins the team at school every year.He was the point guard last year.:)

  • I hate Detroit. Great slide though:) Those Canadians are surely fooled, I can see why. Give me Chicago any day:P

  • Chicago is much better. What do you want?Coleman Young ran the city for about 30 years.I think things could have been done during that time that weren't.I think things are being done right now with tax payer money that shouldn't be.The reporter on channel 7 just did another report on city officials going to Hawaii with the taxpayers money.

  • Ugh. I think politics shorten the life-span;) Poor Blake.

  • what?:)IT is one of those inevitable evils that we have to live with.

  • Agreed!

  • Great video!

  • Thankyou very much.I made this a response to someone and now I can't remember who.:)

  • I used to go to Belle Isle and watch the Deer .Are they still there?I also would stop by the Aquarium there .Thats was the spot to go with your girlfriends .I lived near Michigan and Livernois area.Have a Great Day!

  • Great photos Jamie. Thanks for giving us a look around Detroit. -jim

  • Thankyou,I have been meaning to do this for a while.I guess I finally got the time.:)

  • Awesome Jamie... I love all the pictures and the music was great too. Appreciate you sharing your part of the state with us! I've never been there before until now...lol

  • It isn't that big of a city compared to Chicago,LA,or NY,but it does have it's good points.:)

  • Nice video. I have some recent pictures of the riverfront. I plan to post them.

  • Good,I can't wait to see them.I'll have to go down there one of these days.:)

  • I posted a video showing the riverfront and a few vessels on the water

  • wow. Go Noaksark!
