  • In kindergarten I came home from school and my mom had bought one of these from a yard sale with a ton of attachments-most of which weren't even for carpet shampooers- and she was shampooing the house with defoamer in the solution tank...

  • can you make a vid using the standard nozzle

  • for some reason I remember someone in my family having one of these at some point locked in their attic

  • how old is that'?

  • Wow my grandpa just gave me the one that he had, he said he only used it once when he bought it and that was it. For it's age it works like it's brand new!

  • I used to have one of these, but the vacuum motors ball bearings completely self destructed because of rust, i believe this happened because it tipped over once, the Kenmore spraymate motor also self destructed because the field windings shifted themselves close to the cooling fan and their insulation was scrapped off and it shorted out, and finally the magnet drive pump was not spinning, the motor on the pump was fine though, i have managed to rebuild the vacuum, but i dont have a spraymate now

  • the unit is from 1979.

  • I thank you very much for your video, I got one good old power spray in a garage sale without instructions and was trying to make sure where to put water and soap! Guess it is not too complicated! Thanks

  • I have the same Sears model without the powerhead. The greatest downfall of these designs is their failure to extract an acceptable amount of the water they apply, due to the fact there is insufficent weight over the head - and the wands cannot tolerate a great deal of pressure. An accurate test involves measuring the amount of water dumped into resovoir and then comparing that to the water sucked up and the water remaining. I prefer a Rug Doctor rental.

  • @DesignerAviaries Yeah. The wands are pretty weak. I just found another one of these a few weeks ago that seems to be a bit newer. It doesn't have the floor nozzles, but it does have the upholstery nozzle. I've been thinking about trying to make a metal wand for it or something... Odd think about the Rug Doctors - I was in Ohio the other week, and wal-mart wasn't renting the rug doctors, but they had the rug doctor machines for sale.

  • @general0ne If you still have the other shampooer like u mentioned you can probably hook up a power nozzle and put in a bag and use it as a canister

  • im guessing its from the late 70's- 80's

  • generalone, I have one without the base. Great motor and suction. I wonder if I can put a "bag" over the bottom of the intake, put a hose on the exhaust and use it as a exhausted shop vac? Think some generic filter/bag would work? Thanks!

  • That should work. If you're going to use it as a blower, I don't see why you'd need to put a bag over the intake if you're going to use it as a blower. If you want to use it as a shop vac, then just a standard upright bag with one end cut off should work. I did that for an old shop vac I have that I couldn't get a filter for.

  • @Gangster4life45 only think that I can think of would be to dismantle the pump and get it freed up. I actually found another one of these but haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

  • @general0ne i figured out what was wrong with the pump now, there was a bit of rust in the pump which didn't allow it to spin, i tried to turn the impeller by hand to unjam it

  • This is like a Tubvax!

  • we have one of those but we no longer have the hoses instuff so itll probably go away. lol unless you need any parts off it.

  • Aren't you going to get the Eureka Atlantis?

  • Probably not. Nearly all of these vacuums I've found in the trash, with the exception of a few of the really old ones (the Premier, and all of the hand vacs). If I can get it for free and fix it so it works, I'm fine. I tend to not buy anything unless I absolutely have to.

  • Don't you have other carpet cleaners?

  • yeah. I have a Hoover and my parents have a Bissell.

  • i have 2 two of those

  • Thats because you have to push the vacuum back and forth so it will turn my grandma's hoover steamvac they stop too on the brushes and when I try too move it back and forth it turn

  • Can you do a video of the Hoover steam vac spin scrub carpet cleaner

  • Yeah. I'll do one in the next day or so. The brushes really don't do anything though, they just stop when on the carpet...
