The real issue here is that people who do not respect religion cannot see it as an answer to "Why?". Rather, they assume it's a competing answer to "How?".
I'm not saying people have to be religious, but a person who chooses to respect and understand religion can make that distinction.
Also, for people who say religion causes war, that's like saying the bullet kills someone, not the shooter. When WE get things wrong, WE screw up, not God.
