@rpmniners They were just one of many bands waiting to break through in the late 80's/early 90's. It was only a matter time before my generation began to shun the shitty hair metal being worn out at the time. Truth be told, it could have just as easily been Smashing Pumpkins that kicked off the 90's. The fans didn't want Rhinocerus though, they wanted Teen Spirit. Radio and MTV pushed Seattle bands anyway, because that's where THE scene was. A plethora of bands they could pick and choose from.
why is it that the songs from early albums are so bloody good!! I was so into Mellon Collie and the infinite sadness, then a friend told me to listen to Siamese Dream years later and well...jeez this song just kills everything and I can't get it out of my head!! It is brilliant.
Saw the reincarnation of SP in Manchester in 08. Billy's singing was close to note perfect, but these performances are so much more compelling. Angsty Billy was awesome
Listen to that mammoth guitar tone. So fucking heavy yet so crisp and clear and rounded and warm and spacey but direct Siamese Dream the best guitar sound of all time
I love this music so intensely sometimes that my heart opens up and I start crying. It is music about unconditional love (God), suffering, sin and salvation, and it's easily up there with Mozart and the rest of the Immortals.
You would have to have lived through this part of time to really get it........... Best musical revolution since the 60's was the early to mid 90's........ I am happy I have all these memories to hold dear to my heart!!!! Pumpkins , NIN , Pearl Jam , Soundgarden..... name bands today that can compare ....its the Loc Ness monster it doesn's exist!!!!!
@Sharingan6277 I was around, but I was like 2 years old. Blows, but at least we've got the music and videos still to listen to and watch. Almost as good.
used to listen to this everyday after high school on my walk home. it fit any setting and any mood for me at the time and still does. just a masterpiece of a song right here. with all the quite little medleys and the heavy fuzz riffs just excellent.
I'll be forever grateful for my parents deciding to boink in the mid-80s. They gave me the gift of growing up in the '90s and being surrounded by incredible music.
The warm fuzzy guitar tones, the dreamy interludes, Corgan's nasal whisper/scream... goose bumps every time.
Iamthebloodyearth, or whatever the fuck you wanna call yourself, no knocks, I just just wanna thank you for posting thing this shit. It get's me through some days.
At concerts, when I'm behind a chick on someone's shoulders, I like to throw pebbles at the back of head until she comes down. It adds to the grand concert experience.
Listening to this is a bittersweet emotion. It brings back thoughts when music meant something, then knowing we're stuck now in a very sad state of utter shit.
to me, i believe smashing pumpkins IS THE BEST BAND OUT THERE reasons why 1. all members are awesome 2. soo many different styles and melodies 3. corgan kicks ass 4. dar'cy is hot 5. no show is the same. they always switch it up 6 they have soo many songs. its always a suprise with what they play. 7. they were the 90's. they should be as famous as nirvana is. kurt cobain didnt even wanna be famous lol 8. man they can shred on guitar. and jimmy chamberlin is a beast on drums . .. need i say more
@kirkfnw anybody that says billy's a tool needs to do some research, he wasn't a "control freak" he was a creative genius that didn't want to see his best friends turn into a bunch of drug addicts and die like their live keyboardist did.. ill admit hes been a bit weird recently, but i'd be weird to if i was in a great band like this and it all crumbled
@MetalFeast9 I think because they (including myself) feel a little bitter that Nirvana is considered the band of the '90's when the Pumpkins music is clearly better.
Fuck man . This must be the song ive played on youtube the most .This was the real Pumkins . affeter 15 year this song still make fell teh same as back em so Emocional , so Truht . Thx u pumpkins for so much
i love all corgan music , but he cant never can make this kind of song .
A guilty pleasure of mine is watching people with absolutely no command of the drum kit in real life play their hearts out on the air drum kit live in concert. I wish their was a youtube video of just that. Hours long.
Corgan wrote all the parts and played everything but the drums on the album,So,how did D'Arcy and Iha offer something unique? They were just hired guns to play Corgan's songs.HE IS THE SMASHING PUMPKINS
i'm a big fan of both nirvana and the smashing pumpkins. both are exceptional bands. i don't think it's appropriate to compare them. besides, arguments like this have no ending anyway.
i wish the original lineup could get back together. each member offered something really unique to the table and they complemented each other. most of their early work especially is criminally under appreciated, especially in terms of the songwriting. i think it's so cool that they were able to recycle a combination of 70's power pop riffs, sludgy 90's guitar tones, super cold/dry goth bass tones, electronica etc. and make it sound completely fresh.
@924dre924 Hell yes. The song, whether Billy meant it or not, is an epic melodic journey that experiences moments of monumental turmoil and grandiose fury and swiftly sees serene beauty and soft, considerate harmonies...so fantastic in every way.
I love the intensity of the dude in the front row with the lightning bolt shirt on when jimmy brings it in the middle of the intro!!! One of my favorite pumpkin songs!!!!!!
@joao1988pedro I'd appreciate the present if the music was worth my time. If i could get people my age to listen to this theyd ditch that horsecrap that comes from people like lady gaga, beyonce and the least talented of all Kesha. WHO LET HER NEAR A RECORD LABEL i thought they were supposed to keep those people out!! Doof doof sucks ass too bring back rock n roll. Music just isnt worth my time because the past is where its at!

The thing about the Pumpkins is that after Jimmy left in 1996, they never really recaptured the magic, even when he did return. What made them so good was a love of music, totally different personalities and their youthfulness. Anyone who thinks the band is just Billy and Jimmy is wrong cos without James and D'arcy you lose the whole point of the band.
I agree with the comment, but for the most part all bands lose some of the magic cause it's not the same anymore. You get money and less time to really work hard on the music. Also, when you are struggling you have something to prove.
Corgan is not the fucking foundaton. Are you kidding me? Smashing Pumpkins are Billy, James, Jimmy, Darcy. They are not the Pumpkins without James, Darcy had a very specific style too
its true, I read it somewhere I forget where. but its understandable if Billy did play most of the album work, some songs have 40-80 guitar tracks layered over each other
yeah, Darcy brings to the band a lot of wonderfull energy and good vibrations, and James is rly underrated guitarist and such a nice guy! Band is not only a instrumental show, but firstly people and their relations! You can't build a band like that with an assholes or something... Pumpkins 4ever!!! Darcy and James, we miss you!
This song is just incredible. I love this song & have been listening to it quite frequently for the past two months. And, I just looked up the lyrics....now I like it even more. This song is the turkey's tits. (I just made that up)
Love this song, one of my favourites by the Pumpkins! Just love this band. I've been listening to them since I was about 13 and I've grown up with them, they mean so much to me! I've shared both happy and sad moments with their music. :)
I miss this band so much! They caught lightning in a bottle at just the right time. Siamese dream is in my top 3 albums/CD;s ever.

yeah, Darcy brings to the band a lot of wonderfull energy and good vibrations, and James is rly underrated guitarist and such a nice guy!

corgan doesn't get enough credit for being a good guitarist, he just gets recognition as a composer. which i guess is pretty good too.
