Excellent vid! Seems like yesterday the F40s and Heritage cars were everywhere, now it's the bland GE genesis "P-somethings". The sweet sounding K5La horns are gradually being replaced by updated Nathan horns that sound similar but nowhere as melodious.

very nice!! my uncle used to drive amtrak and we'd go riding with him in the engine when we were kids.... back in the 80's and early 90's. great horn, great footage.

I like the solid Heritage Fleet rolling stock on the Amtrak. That was rare even in 1987. What train was that? The Crescent?

Great vid!!! I used to love the Heritage-equipped Crescent. I remember after the Silver Service, Lake Shore Limited, Broadway Limited, City of New Orleans, and Auto Train went Amfleet/Superliner, the Crescent still had some Heritage equipment.

I did see it back then, actually quite a few years before this was filmed...almost every day!

Didn't make videos back then, but I recorded every one on audio cassette!

We need high speed ELECTRIFIED rail. Freight needs to be moved high speed too. If both those things are acomplished, our economy problems should be gone.

Hard core to the Bone!!!! This is like the most rarest historical footage ever!!!! Definatly something to consider submitting to Pentrex Rail Videos. Love the way the vid started off with the F40 & express boxcars then this NS work train thing. Dang that work train had everything on it. No question about it this is a 5 star vid!!!!
