Yeah, Sega was so cheap, they just took Ryu out, made a 3D model of him which didn't resemble Ryu at all, maybe except of the headband, gave him a completely different moveset and took out the ability of shooting hadokens.

I'm so sick of Sega copying other games.

They were so unoriginal when they made the 1st 3D fighting game ever.

If you took like 2 minutes to check out my favorites, you'd probably notice I love Sega and Virtua Fighter. Street Fighter, too.

The design changes you mentioned were made when Capcom made STREET FIGHTER 2 which was released in 1991, two years BEFORE the release of Virtua Fighter. In 1993 Capcom released Super Street Fighter 2, in which Ryu's sprite was (pretty much) IDENTICAL to his 1991 counterpart, aside from some palette changes.
