It's natural that the Americans elect an American, and of course, that a Brazilian say "Bob!". I remember the Rodney Mullen, in the 80s, as the king of the freestyle mode and Tony Hawk in vertical. But, to elect the best of all, I think we have to see who was the best overall (freestyle, street, vert ramp and mega). Mullen is the king on the ground and I think in vert, is Bob. Perhaps, by the history of the skateboard, Tony Hawk is the best in general?...(Or, who knows...Hosoi?)
80's... In that time, here in Brazil, we only watching on tv, Hosoi and Hawk disputing the hegemony of the global skateboarding, and dreaming to see, in a day, a Brazilian skater in this place. The time has passed and the dream became a reality ... Bob Burnquist, Sandro Dias, Alex Carolino, Lincon Ueda, among many others at the top of the world skating! What a pride! (we can not forget about the older Brazilians skaters that are
South America's skateboarding capital) and in the 80's I saw the fight between Cristian Hosoi and Tony Hawk for the world hegemony. In that time, sure, we only dreamed, but today, I'm very proud to know that Bob Burnquist is the 'Pelé'(the King) of the skateboarding, like the Brazilian skateboarding is on the top of the world. unfortuneately it still not happened with the Brazilian surfboarding). PS- Sorry 4 my bad english.
yeh but a bigflip frontboard down a 16 stair is nuts and more innovative than a 10 year old trick. besides, how hard could vert possibly be if these guys are landing so many tricks in a row.
You have to remember that in street comps now people land a huge number of tricks in a row. They save their hardest for video sections though. Same as vert. You'll see people like PLG doing stuff on vids which they'd no way put into a vert run.
Also with vert you've got to set up your body position really quickly for the next trick. It's not like street skating where you've normally got enough time to comfortably reset your feet.

Hello. I'm from São Paulo-SP, Brazil (the
South America's skateboarding capital) and in the 80's I saw the fight between Cristian Hosoi and Tony Hawk for the world hegemony. In that time, sure, we only dreamed, but today, I'm very proud to know that Bob Burnquist is the 'Pelé'(the King) of the skateboarding, like the Brazilian skateboarding is on the top of the world. unfortuneately it still not happened with the Brazilian surfboarding).
