I am a geek and i have 18 years working on tech i work and i see a lot of netbooks and notebooks playing FULL HD without ION, this is called programmed obsolescence, they convence you to buy a better products that you dont need realy.
The best age is 8 Bits, almost similar soft running in differents machines, like MSX Commodore Atari for years until you need to buy another computer, but PC era is a Shi....
@nopochoclos Really because without ion most netbook does not play full hd at all. Since intel gpu limitation is
depention on Cpu load. With ion let the graphic processor do the work. I have the ion and really amazed what they can offer. At least some old netbook owner can trade their old netbook since the old one has crappy shitty performance compare to this ion.
To end my rant , i hope some system integrators manage to slap in the 16 cuda core ion 2 in their netbooks instead of the 8 core one.I couldn't really care much about power consumption since i would use that netbook almost always plugged in .That being said i'm waiting on Ion 3 with at least 128-bit memory bandwith and direct x 11 support.
Hey Nvidia , what's up with intel screwing you over that DMI bus access. Is it a big issue if the ion chip is interfaced through the pciex1 / x16 lanes ? Sure the bandwith might be slower , but if netbook integrators make sure that all the lanes's bandwith is dedicated to the ION chip, it shouldn't be a problem. You could even sue the bastards over this. It seems they haven't learnt their lesson since the EU record fine.
IMHO, This is cool and all but if the cost is going to be the same as a regular laptop with either an ATI or NVIDIA GPU then i'd rather get the laptop with a beefier CPU. they make 12 inch laptops now anyways for like 500 bucks with either an AMD or Nvidia GPU.

jivevd 10 months ago
@jivevd 1080p? I can barely get 720p to run smooth.
andrew1421l 4 months ago
@jivevd Are you talking about 720p? Because they show it in 1080p aka 1920x1080 screen resolution video playback.

i have atom , 2gb ddr3, n 550, GMA 3150 but is not slow in windows i can see videos hd easily (720)
but playing it is not the best
nvidia is better, but fake video against intel GMA

@marcelfast1 720p? They are talking about 1080p which atom graphic machine cannot run at all.

That's why you get an Nvidia GTX 480 .

I am assuming the "competition" is intel graphics...

@a5mcclelland
If you watched the video entirely ( 1:30 ), you would see that your assumption is correct.

yeah ... my Intel GMA 950 in my Asus Eee Pc 1005HA can handle Areo Glass too >_> but ION is a quite good gpu-chipset though

Well its safe to say that intel graphics sux, so this would be a welcome addition to the users.
smaller footprint on the cards and better performance. and of course cheaper production cost so the end user get their value for money.
Today you end up paying more for graphic then youll get in return.
Thats a shame
