When I first heard that Mohamed Bouazizi had set himself alight, funnily "Palava" (which what I know this song as) and STB came straight to mind.. Assad still doesnt GET IT!!! He;s still killing..

@RedWBalls he is one of our icons in nigeria , the king of "Afro pop" Fela Anikulapo KUTI! .. and his music is so prophetic, over 13yrs after his death.. Trouble sleep , yanga wake am" couldnt have described london riots more better than this song...
trouble sleep..., beast of no nation, army arrangement, egbe mi o, kalakuta show, water no get enemy, ye ye dey smell = best Fela songs to me. The man was a musical alien.
The rhyme, and the message of this song flows from the outer(physical) environment to the inner( emotional) from there to the spiritual part of it then again!!!! reverse the case. wonder how the World would have been without music.
Forget am 19, but he still holds as an Icon to me, men he freaking wrote all this songs and every single time your hear it, it come alive in you, NOW THATS GOD'S GIFT TO MAN lol
Each time I was at the Shrine in the early 70s i use to ask Fela to play this song for me. He would play it and he hated me (the French man, as he used to call me me) for that, because, as I was told, he does not play a song that is already recorded. But, he was my friend, and I was crazy about his music. I still love this song. I miss Lagos (I have lived in Lagos from 1973 to1976), I miss my Nigerian friends (Betty Kalu, Stanley at Femme Boutique, etc...!!! )
Another blinding piece from the late master. If you really know the suffering of the urban poor across Africa, you will really feel like crying when you hear this. Probably as true in Cairo as it is in Calabar.
The use of horns is so good that there was just no way to improve this song on 'Red, Hot, and Riot'. I wish they'd realised it.
Thank you guys for your comments on Look and Laugh. When Fela and Egypt 80 sang that song they were in another planet. Each time I listen to that song I go to that planet and my eyes accumulate tears of joy.
Keep listening to the grooves guys, your souls will be soothed!
Its too bad Fela didnt try and make more slow songs like this one. This really stands apart from the rest of his output. One of the most cathartic riffs i've ever heard. Has anyone heard another Fela slow song? I've got like 30 albums by him and this is the only tune anything like this one..if anyone has a suggestion let me know!
i just read he had 27 wives. 27 wives. funny how great men are always bastards to the ladies. hemmingway. bob dylan. martin luther (king, and the original). abraham lincoln. jfk. you name it: any many who does great things = bastard to women. i wonder what this all means? anyway, great music and a great man.
he was no bastard to women. he married all his dancers at a cermony to mark the anniversary of the destruction of kalakuta republic (his house/arena) where he was beaten sensless and his elderly mother was thrown out of a top floor window by soldiers. and he was good to all of them while they were his wives. he later divorced them. all his children get along very well... so don't make comments like that... understand the rationale behind it first
common now, lets be honest marrying 27 wives was totally wrong and the girls did not get along while i agree fela gave them a home fed them e.t.c fela was not exactly the model husband as he ruled his household with an iron fist, even seun and femi did not get along for so many years untill very recently after some eminent nigerians brokered peace between them.i should know because i am a fan and a friend of seun, kunle femi knows me personally as well
oh yeah, sorry...forgot to mention there was some scam conceived to arrest the women and he did it to save them... see? that's why he did it... he wasn't trying to disrespect anyone...
I could never find this song on youtube cause I was using the title "Palava". So glad I found it cause my Nigerian friend who lent me this tape (yes i said tape) took it back. Man I can listen to this song all day!
