Black Sheep - The Doughboys [Plainfield, New Jersey] - "The first track gave me hope that I made the right decision getting this CD." - Is It Now? (Ram Records)-2007.
NOTE: Review excerpt by Alex Henderson (allmusic):
" Is It Now? doesn't pretend to be groundbreaking, but lovers of '60s-style garage rock will find it to be an excellent and thoroughly rewarding reunion album for the Doughboys."
I admire your loyalty to your "Doughboys" however, I take exception to the term "muppets". We don't go around name calling your guys just because they stole our name(by the way we have used this name since 1966 long before your D'Boys were even born), so please be a bit more courteous. By the way, since the last 2 albums we released have been doing so well we have actually brought our fans to your D'Boys page while they searched for us. Live & let live, Petey.
I have no idea who John Kastner is. I'm sure we were probably recording under this name long before he was even born. However, he's fortunate to have a loyal fan like yourself. That's what's kept all of us going all these years. Sorry if we've disappointed you.
Well thanks for the positive feedback. No need to feel embarrassed. I had no idea there were so many bands under the name The Doughboys till we released our Cd in 2007 and started seeing all these other bands with the name. Keep on my friend. All my best to you.
Ah yes I remember them well. We were considering doing the CD release party for our new CD (which is being manufactured as we blog) at Cook School. We just didn't know if we'd be able to get everyone out that we'd want to get there. Here's another one.
We are THE Doughboys and have been The Doughboys since 1966. In fact, at last count there are 5 other bands with some degree of regional or national notoriety who have adopted our name.
I have no idea who John Kastner is and I'm sure he has no idea who I am but that's WTF.
not 30's,early 40's,they were a great The band, from Montreal, was formed by John Kastner in 1987, following his departure from The Asexuals.[1] The Doughboys released their debut album, Whatever, that year, although the original lineup of musicians shortly disbanded. In 1996 and 2000 Chart Magazine ranked Whatever as the 28th greatest Canadian album of all time..
Dude, this might be the best song that people never heard. I heard it on a radio program about 3 months ago. 105.7 The X. I live in Lancaster, PA. Since then I cannot stop listening to it. The song freaking rocks! I downloaded it on Itunes and play it for people. Great tune.
LTM83, Thanks for the comments. Nice that you like the song. There's more like this on our first CD "Is It Now" and lots more coming out on our new CD in the next month or 2. Check out our download only single "I'm Not Your Man" on iTunes.
Hey guys ! Since you do some of the best covers, I was thinking how great you'd sound doing Syndicate of Sound's Hey Little Girl ( you don't have to hide nothin' no more).I just listened to it and thought of you .
The DBoys rocked it last Sunday at the Stone Pony after the Pretenders concert a few footsteps away. Nice way to end a great evening, Cat Power and Juliette Lewis led the way.
you guys are great. What a flashback. I remember hearing the Doughboys when I was in Jr. High School back around 67 or 68.
You still sound as great as then. I was friend's with Frank Scavone. Someone tell him, Tom Cooper says hello and that I am hanging out in south Florida with Bruce Patterson. Now that''ll be a flashback.
Because the Bordentown show is a better enviroment. The place is less cramped, feels more like a living room then anything. It sounds absolutely amazing, and you're literally two feet away from the performers when you're in the front row.
An inspiration to all us 50-somethings that still know how to rock ! Not a abd song in thier live set, the pick of cover material was diverse and well executed. THIS BAND IS A MUST SEE LIVE ! The Bordentown show is still very vivd in my mind ! Absolutely great show / band / cd / video!
These guys rule! The Doughboys are the most authentic garage-rockers you'll hear in this day and age. So why aren't they bigger than the Hives? They remind me of the Yardbirds, Pretty Things, Shadows of Knight, Seeds, the early Stones and others from the halcyon days of amped-up, blues-based, lean & mean rock and roll. This is THE sound, IMHO...pure unadulterated high-energy R&R bliss.
Awesome...Ironic that Richie Hass wasn't around to see this video. He freaking idolized Richard X Heyman back in the day...neat to see the old footage from that period. Heyman was the reason he became a musician. Well, him and The Beatles anyway. Rawk!
