@shifttradition If its confirmed that the plane is on a 9/11 like mission or something similarly damaging, they'll just shoot it down in the air before it can land and/or make an impact. American fighters operate on a similar doctrine.

The reasoning is that the loss off life aboard the airliner will be smaller than the damage created if its left alone. Of course, ideally they prefer a situation like this where the plane is escorted to a safe landing but that wont always happen.

@TheVedicStudent In the USA up until a few weeks before 9/11 and returning shortly after 9/11, they were scrambled any time there was a suspected hijacking or if a plane went out of contact with the control tower. They are supposed to shoot down a plane before it reaches a populated area if it has been hijacked. They have also escorted planes where pilots died of natural causes to help guide passengers in for landings or make sure that the plane crashes in non populated areas.

So the plan is to let the fighter shoot the plane down over a city. Do the passengers get a couple minutes to overpower the terrorists at any and all cost? Since the pilots are isolated from the terrorist, do they just fly out to sea and let the fighter shoot the plane down? Are there rescue boats out there to pick up survivors and the diseased? If the passengers overpower the terrorists, how do the pilots know this for sure? Armed passengers, a deterrent?
