that audio comparison is a bit skewed.. I don't think moonshell slaughters the audio that much. Headphone output is a higher ohm-age to power the headphones.. I'm not sure about the play-yan device, but yeah.. It definitely doesn't sound that dirty coming out of my headphones.. Not to mention, you can raise the bitrate of the audio on dpg, I'm not sure If you can do that with the play-yan device.
Moonshell can easily look better if you select good settings and use good converting software (BatchDPG, more specifically Firon's build). Play-yan comes close though. I really cant tell 100% as I've never seen Play-yan video first hand.
The Moonshell global.ini has settings for video playback, does altering them help with the video skipping? I saw you can adjust the amount of dithering. The default is half dithering, but you can turn it off completely. There is also a thing called GOP skipping, where Moonshell intentionall skips frames to keep up the speed, I think I would prefer slowdown to skipping, as long as the audio doesn't desync.
i like the play yan more, and i trust it more too. í've wanted a media player for very long now, for i am a anime fan(especially the old episodes of naruto are good....i hate those fillers) and watching them in for example an airplane is just too good to be true
Do you know any place cheaper than lik-sang or play-asia to import Play-Yan to the US? I noticed they sell it for around $70 whereas the Nintendo site sells it for $40-something but they don't ship outside of Japan.
The thing is.. the moonshell picture quality is actually worse cause you can see compression artifacts every now and then. Also moonshell is unable to play 24fps video smoothly in high action sequences, watch the video after it has fully downloaded and you'll see there are pauses in the video for moonshell. And yes.. for moonshell I just used the provider encoder so the file fomat is DPG.

I feel the PlayYan delivers better video & audio quality for the simple reason that it is a piece of HARDWARE that's meant to do the job. That said, you can't beat MoonShell's price and you can watch images with it if you'd like.

The Moonshell seek thing sucked in older versions but is instant using 1.6+ (with newer conversion tools).

from my experience I havent had any trouble reading subtitles on the play-yan, as long as your not more than two or three feet away.
