Perfume wearers be warned, civets are sometimes killed for their musk glands. I am glad to be allergic to musk, know now why bad musk smells of unhappy cat.

The family is in the Order Carnivora with includes families such as Felidae (cats), Canidae (dogs), Ursidae (bears), Mustelidae (weasels), and Hyenidae (hyenas). The viverrids are closer to the cat family, mongoose family, and hyena family than to the other families. The civet family includes genets, linsangs, and binturongs. Hope this helps! They are pretty much a family of mammals only in Africa and Asia.

If you've never heard of them - civets are a lot like raccoons. They're actually famous for having a part in the world's best coffee beans. Civets eat coffee berries and then poop them out mostly whole. Any berry a civet eats is usually the absolute best berry on the plant, so growers will clean and roast those pooped berries to make really great coffee beans.
