@hulkwillsmash48 Kiss's first 8 albums are classics. There's a time to read War and Peace and there's a time to read comic books. Comics are more fun.
You're all gonna kill me for saying this, but AC/DC was punk rock compared to KISS. It's ironic that Highway to Hell and Never Mind the Bollocks came out the same year. They were both deeply irreverent fuck off records and both not American. Bon said KISS were a spectacular, but not good.
@debgibsonfan not at all, that's one of Bon Scott's good friends interviewing him, Ian Molly Meldrum, host of a music show here in Australia called Countdown, who actually funded a couple of video clips for AC/DC in the early days, Jailbreak being one of them, so no Bon wasn't thinking who's this idiot at all, they were very good friends!
@debgibsonfan true he was, but I was just pointing out that Bon didn't have any disdain towards him, most interviewers are there to do their job and that's it, but Bon and him would associate with each other a lot in Melbourne, Australia, until Bon's unfortunate death!
Rush is definitely more talented than any of the other bands that are relevant in this video. Nay-sayers should perhaps increase their sense of hearing.
@c0rnp0p5 Rush is definatley more "talented" when it comes to playmanship, but "rock" wise ac/dc, especially early ac/dc, just blew them out of the water....
@c0rnp0p5 I get your point. I think they are more grounded as individuals, and less influenced by the 'Limelight'...but the Young family has talent, even big brother George!
lmao coz Bon is getting well pissed off with the interviewer because he doesnt know shit about rock bands - then Bon mentions the rock band UFO and the guy hasnt a clue so he says' you know UFO' and is laughing at the guy - in the old days UFO also meant you fuck off - to round it off Bon is scratching his lip with his middle finger and the interviewer still doesnt get it that Bon thinks he is a dumb prick
@southerndeth I saw Bon with AC/DC and UFO at Massey Hall in Toronto in '76 or '77. UFO was the headliner but I forgot them but never forgot AC/DC and Angus playing while going off stage and then appearing next to us on the balcony. Blew me and my bandmates away as no one we knew had cordless guitars back then!
@Mrbillsfan11 oh what!? I didn't know... But, remember maybe kiss weren't so famous back then. The interviewer didn't even know about the Rush! and In what way was he arrogant and self-absorbed?
I can't believe the comparisons here. Kiss is no more like Rush than Rush is like AC/DC. Kiss tried to be original, you can't fault them for that, they were a fun band! AC/DC had their own distinctive original sound and could rock just as hard as anyone. Rush goes untouched as far as skill and musicanship and their ability to pull off songs onstage inspite of limitations. I don't compare, I've enjoyed them all.
The biggest contrast between AC/DC and KISS is that AC/DC played music for the love of it, true unadulterated hard Aussie rock. KISS dressed up like women and would probably sell their souls for a dollar, given the opportunity. I admire their success but in terms of musicianship they're not a spec of dust on AC/DC's arse as far as I'm concerned.
C'mon, this interviewer is a moron. By November 1977 Rush was already an international headlining act in the middle of their "A Farewell to Kings" Tour.
@MrChrisastin you're right, the other guy was wrong. Rush isn't the 3rd bestselling band. They are however, ranked 3rd (behind the Beatles and The Rolling Stones) for most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums.
@Lerxstmaniac Kiss has been awarded 28 gold albums to date, the most of any American rock band. The band has sold more than 40 million albums in the United States, of which 20 million have been certified by the RIAA and their worldwide sales exceeds 100 million albums

@E5C4P377 Well, that's true. Brian Johnson made ACDC a pop rock band. But, Kesha is pop, does that make her music good? I don't know if you know this but some of the greatest rock and roll bands have never had a number one hit. Led Zeppelin for example. Does that make them a crap band? Your logic is flawed and you are young and inexperienced. Bon Scott was the voice of ACDC. An actual singer. Not a screecher.
@joboarder10 Grasping for straws now aren't we? You want to include The Rolling Stones, The Animals and any number of other British Invasion bands that made their career by covering blues bands? Oh yeah. Let's not forget The Beatles. Point is Brian Johnson is a screecher. He doesn't sing. Back in Black was the only album he did that was even worth more than a superficial listen. Everything after that was mediocre at best.
@joboarder10 Stole ? Are you serious ? Except for some text and the riff of the intro to Dazed Going to California, nothing has been plagiarized, the other (STH, WLL, Black Dog, Moby dick'riff, Communication breakdown, Black Mountain side), it comes from inspiration.

@adiosdeadman oh gawd, get a grip. Geddy and da boyz were on friendly terms with them. It was all good natured fun. you rush fans act like it's some high art level class band or something. I liked them a lot too, but i still make fun of them. How could one not. The albums were laugh out loud funny, especially the earlier ones. 2112, Farewell To Kings? HA HA Gweddy's papa smurf on helium voice.
@adiosdeadman Yeah, i remember hearing RUSH for the first time in the late seventies. took a long time to be able to tolerate his voice, but I eventually turned on to it, thought they had some good tunes. Signals and Moving Pictures are decent. My best friend from the school days and I would hold Rush up in high regard for talent as well as ridicule."It's got wires that vibrate" with that voice, HA HA that line would always have us going.
Poor Bon, he looks exhausted in that intereview. Anyone know how long after this was shot that he passed away. AC/DC to me has always been Bon. Brian has done a very nice job over the decades, but he still could never replace Bon.
That's Molly Meldrum interviewing Bon , obviously done before his death in 1980, but it's not a huge surprise that they don't know Gene's name or about Rush coz the western world was overwhelmed with fantastic bands and original music. Mainstream newspapers pretty much ignored pop music and obviously no internet was available , so not knowing the real names of Kiss who claimed to be trying to remain anonymous anyway with all the makeup/costumes is understandable.
the guy never heard of Rush..when was this interview done?? miss Bon he was great i love Brian, he's a crazy dude, buti think if i had to choose, i would favor Bon ...
Well, AC DC and Rush are very humble. That would be unique. I would love to see Alex (who'd my ultimate, favorite guitarist) jam with Ace. Most people at my school make a ridicule out of me for prefering Alex. Why? We all know why.... I'm not going to say it.... Point being, AC DC and when Bon was alive, Rush, are very modest. That's an understatement from my observations... I hope this doesn't cause any trouble...
@daidi0121 Well I meant how would they even know anything about Rush or ACDC? When I went to school, everyone listened to mainstream garbage. Canada produces some of the best entertainment though. I used to joke about Canada, but then I realized they have Rush, Trailer Park Boys, and their technical death metal scene is ahead of everyone else, but now I'm just thinking out loud.
@swans1997 I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not saying technical death metal is another word for progressive rock. It's not even that specific. There are much more complicated genres. Though they don't really mean much, it's just an easy way to find bands of similar sounds.
@swans1997 Well metalheads usually are nerds, I accept that. Take bands like Autopsy and Allegaeon for example, they clearly have completely different sounds. You don't call all books just "books" or all movies just "movies". They have different genres, and genres within them.
@Ryu12543 Yeah, you're nineteen, I'm 43. Back in the eighties we underground metal heads usually went to the same shows. Mercyful Fate fans went to Slayer shows and likewise. There was some anal-ists then, too. It all started from the same area. Nowadays you got more genres with their own sub-genre's subgengres. Never was much for "scenes". I liked my Roxy Music as well as Venom. I just called it music to listen too.
@swans1997 Don't know what I'm talking about, ha ha. I'm referring to all these arty, complicated virtuosos (think they are) nerds. Back in the old days it was "Art Rock". The labels today are more anal and funnier.
I saw AC/DC on the Highway to Hell tour with Bon Scott in Glasgow. They turned up late, played a 45 minute set, and didn't do an encore. I'm sure they were getting booed as they didn't return to the stage. The most disappointing gig I ever went to.
yes absolutely they never were taken seriously because they don't know how to play they're instruments.Yes more intelligent groups that you mention have been known for their musical tastes and background in blues, etc like AC/DC they know how to put on a show that is pure rock energy and they still can rock even today they blow kiss off stage!
Holy shit that interviewer's barely awake, thats the funniest interview Ive seen for ages. If bon scot ever had a look of disgust that was it. Jeez im gonna have to watch that again...
@thugangel662 while that is a good idea to sleep on your side , from angus`s mouth in a interview he said he actually froze to death and not from vomitting
@Pleaver Bon was the best of the best. But the follow up tribute album Back in Black was and is one of the best hard rock records ever and the fact that they made that album after loosing him is mind boggling. Brian may not be on the level of Bon but his vocals on Back in Black are monumental considering who he was following. Bon definately had the most savage, gutteral and full on ballsy voice ever. Brian is a great guy but the fact is I only watch Live Bon videos here.
@Pleaver Man no shit! Well put - a true savage & tough as nails to say the least. His ERA is the only AC/DC I know. Amazing how Jimi, Jancie, Jim Morrison, Kurt & Bonzo keep us wondering, "what if they we're alive today?"
Plus, don't forget, AC/DC was a ROCK N ROLL BAND while Kiss was a corporate enterprise set up by a couple of dooshebags who wanted to whore out as fast, and as widely, as possible in order to maximize profits.
@ROOKTABULA You got KISSOLOGY! down to a social science, act crazy, set stuff on fire and blow stuff up! And spit a lot of fake blood and back it up with some minimal talented music playing and that is Kiss for ya, but I do like that track "I Love It Loud" thats a good tune for what it stands! AC/DC was just a great straight up hard rock band that will be timeless forever!
@SuperRedwing09 They did actually release one in the 80s of original work and even I will admit it had a few good tracks like that one I mentioned earleir was on it. Kiss 2 me has always been great for laughs and not 2 really take seriously. Its easy, mostly because their are so many other great bands from that time period like Bad Company, King Crimson, The Doors, Judas Priest, The Cure, The Who, ok that is almost like 2 generations but you know what I mean.
@Riff28Raff Not the third best-selling band, but Rush is in third in terms of the number of straight (i.e. uninterrupted) streak of gold records, behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones
@clydevanzant Thats what i was trying to convey, i just worded it wrong my bad.. It goes The Beatles.. Elvis Presley,,Michael Jackson..top artists of all time..Thanks for the comment, you put it in the contex i meant to..So that said,,sorry i wrote it wrong my bad..Can i ever be forgiven,,Lol..Peace and godbless you:):)
@wasy35 you know it fags wearing lipstick and make up how screwed up is that? yet some of these homo's are calling people that are critical of kiss fags fuck look no further than their kiss wearing make, lipstick etc all kinds of perverted shit..lol you are so right they do suck
@thereaper91 AC/DC might have made it on their own, but it was certainly KISS that took them out on the road with them when AC/DC were stuggling to make it.
WHY DON'T YOU STICK TO CHEWING YOUR SHITTY KISS BUBBLE YOU LIL FUCKING HOMOSEXUAL,1LISTEN BITCH ITS LIKE THIS WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT KISS YOU FUCKING RETARD KISS IS THE 70'S GET OVER IT MAMMO 8369 WHAT EVER THE FUCK YOU CALL YOURSELF
@1234roadking1 I do like all kinds of music.every thing from Bach to Sepeltura.. I dont want to fight thats why i was not being mean to him,, i was polite..He jumped all over me. i even said have a merry xmas and have a nice weekend. I'm not angry..i just dont see the point to argue. He was the one who got all upity.I guess i hit a nerve..Can anyone say they like to be written to in a condescending way?I think not,,peace and hope you and yours are all doing fine..I truly mean that..
The interviewer isnt very good. Theres certain things you do to get people to talk and one of them is to actually be interested in what they are saying.
if you put the top selling bands in order it goes ,the beatles,,the stones,,rush...if any one is wondering?i meant the band yes is like rush in the way they write a album that's a story,,a concept album...peace out
@Jethromcsheepherder your 40 it says on your page..im 41 in feb so im not that young.but ill check him out...her's one for you to check out,,..a song called parents by budgie..a great trio band.listen to tony bourges killer guitar solo.burke shellys bass and his wild voice..i own every budgie album..im a music fanatic..look at my favs..peace out and thanks alot.
@mdelair420 if you put top selling bands together ??? dude rush are NO WHERE on that list...rush sold 40 million albums world wide, there are 150 bands who sold more. kiss sold over 100 million.. fuck dude you need a history lesson on music...you got the beatles correct, next would be the BEE GEE's, then queen, zepplin, stones, pink floyd and so on....add another 100 bands and then there is rush....what r u like 12 ?
@mdelair420 you need a history lesson. and by you giving 4 responses shows my comment got to you. spice girls also played big venues, does that make them good as well ? out side of america rush are little known. they barley sold over 40 million albums while kiss sold well over 100 million. good music doesnt have to be TECHNICAL to play, the most popular songs of all time a 3 chord songs. kiss helped rush get a start by allowing rush to open for them..
@mdelair420 again you make no sense..do you know how many albums kiss has ?? kiss have 30 gold records, rush has 24. rush have been around longer than kiss but sold less ?? kiss and other acts have toured just as much, and done #1 selling tours
The interviewer doesn't know Rush?? wtf is he doing beeing a journalist?

bon scott's ac dc is the only ac dc thats good.
awesome9001 1 month ago
That's Molly Meldrum interviewing Bon , obviously done before his death in 1980, but it's not a huge surprise that they don't know Gene's name or about Rush coz the western world was overwhelmed with fantastic bands and original music. Mainstream newspapers pretty much ignored pop music and obviously no internet was available , so not knowing the real names of Kiss who claimed to be trying to remain anonymous anyway with all the makeup/costumes is understandable.

bon was joking with the interveiwer, anyone can see that..

@daidi0121 How do people at your school even know what you're talking about?
Ryu12543 3 weeks ago
@Ryu12543 Everyone at school are racist towards Canadians....
daidi0121 3 weeks ago
@daidi0121 Well I meant how would they even know anything about Rush or ACDC? When I went to school, everyone listened to mainstream garbage. Canada produces some of the best entertainment though. I used to joke about Canada, but then I realized they have Rush, Trailer Park Boys, and their technical death metal scene is ahead of everyone else, but now I'm just thinking out loud.
Ryu12543 3 weeks ago
@Ryu12543 "Tech'nical Death Metal", "Math Rock". Todays Hipster's terms for "Progressive Rock" Wonder what it'll be next go round.
swans1997 2 weeks ago
@swans1997 I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not saying technical death metal is another word for progressive rock. It's not even that specific. There are much more complicated genres. Though they don't really mean much, it's just an easy way to find bands of similar sounds.
Ryu12543 2 weeks ago
@Ryu12543 When I see the labels "Math Rock or Technical Death Metal(LMAO) I just think , "nerds".
swans1997 1 week ago
@swans1997 Well metalheads usually are nerds, I accept that. Take bands like Autopsy and Allegaeon for example, they clearly have completely different sounds. You don't call all books just "books" or all movies just "movies". They have different genres, and genres within them.
Ryu12543 1 week ago
@Ryu12543 Yeah, you're nineteen, I'm 43. Back in the eighties we underground metal heads usually went to the same shows. Mercyful Fate fans went to Slayer shows and likewise. There was some anal-ists then, too. It all started from the same area. Nowadays you got more genres with their own sub-genre's subgengres. Never was much for "scenes". I liked my Roxy Music as well as Venom. I just called it music to listen too.
swans1997 1 week ago
@swans1997 Don't know what I'm talking about, ha ha. I'm referring to all these arty, complicated virtuosos (think they are) nerds. Back in the old days it was "Art Rock". The labels today are more anal and funnier.
swans1997 1 week ago

"Everyone at school are racist towards Canadians...."
Must not be a very good school as Canadians are not a race of people.

RandyJM21 1 month ago
@Pleaver Man no shit! Well put - a true savage & tough as nails to say the least. His ERA is the only AC/DC I know. Amazing how Jimi, Jancie, Jim Morrison, Kurt & Bonzo keep us wondering, "what if they we're alive today?"
greeenroooom 1 month ago
@Riff28Raff
Plus, don't forget, AC/DC was a ROCK N ROLL BAND while Kiss was a corporate enterprise set up by a couple of dooshebags who wanted to whore out as fast, and as widely, as possible in order to maximize profits.
ROOKTABULA 1 month ago
@ROOKTABULA You got KISSOLOGY! down to a social science, act crazy, set stuff on fire and blow stuff up! And spit a lot of fake blood and back it up with some minimal talented music playing and that is Kiss for ya, but I do like that track "I Love It Loud" thats a good tune for what it stands! AC/DC was just a great straight up hard rock band that will be timeless forever!
FunkMastaMegaFlex 1 month ago
@FunkMastaMegaFlex Agree AC/DC would those clowns in KISS off stage anytime. In fact when was the last time Kiss putout an album 1970 what?
SuperRedwing09 1 month ago
@SuperRedwing09 They did actually release one in the 80s of original work and even I will admit it had a few good tracks like that one I mentioned earleir was on it. Kiss 2 me has always been great for laughs and not 2 really take seriously. Its easy, mostly because their are so many other great bands from that time period like Bad Company, King Crimson, The Doors, Judas Priest, The Cure, The Who, ok that is almost like 2 generations but you know what I mean.

@mdelair420 you need a history lesson. and by you giving 4 responses shows my comment got to you. spice girls also played big venues, does that make them good as well ? out side of america rush are little known. they barley sold over 40 million albums while kiss sold well over 100 million. good music doesnt have to be TECHNICAL to play, the most popular songs of all time a 3 chord songs. kiss helped rush get a start by allowing rush to open for them..
mammo8369 1 month ago
@mdelair420 again you make no sense..do you know how many albums kiss has ?? kiss have 30 gold records, rush has 24. rush have been around longer than kiss but sold less ?? kiss and other acts have toured just as much, and done #1 selling tours
