ok i hav a beter way so if a fish bites it it wont die or come off. take a needle an put a hole in the last joint the put a not about 4-5 in up ur line then feed it threw the hole then tie on ur hook. the not is so it wont climb ur line to far an dont put the hook all the way threw it cuz ur to lazy to use a needle an all that becuz it will make to big of a hole an it will come off.
all the minnows, like our northwester pikeminnow will just pick at the head and rip it off. unless you know there is only big fish i would thread it through a couple timesand get it above the hook
Works much better if you hook them right behind their eye through their small horn but not too low by their organs so it doesn't kill them this allows for them to easily swim and even jump out of the water if you are using a bobber
I was using larger shrimp and I hooked them in the torso near the head. The only tricky part was missing the brain otherwise they'd be paralyzed and wouldn't move.
I've baited with pre-boiled and frozen shrimp even. Works just fine for saltwater at least. Gotten pollock, mackerel, perch and several others with no problem. Another good bait is mussels.
@Dano78229 I know your comment was a long time ago, but incase you are still wondering; if you don't mind taking a trip down to Bob Hall Pier in North Padre, it has some great fishing. Some outstanding fish have been caught off of that pier. Mackeral, huge sharks, bull reds, Tarpon, etc.
Also, me and my brother have actually had luck fishing on small docks in Corpus. I've caught some keeper reds, speckled trout, sheepshead, and the biggest sand trout I've ever seen; off live shrimp on docks.
you can but the hook all the way through the shrimp's body!! u can guarantee u'll get somethin that way!!
insert the sharp end of the hook between the 2 blades of the shrimp tail, push all the shrimp forward through the hook, it will take the hook shape(which is still realistic), or just insert it for 2-3 parts of the shripm body
umm yeah dead bait is ok depending on how your are rigging it and working it, and what fish you are targeting, although you have liked dead baits a fish will surely eat a live bait befor eating the dead one sitting on the bottom
what about hooking just raw shrimp from the grocery store? I have been reading about using it with and without the shell but do you hook the shrip the same way? I cant find anywhere on how to hook it correctly? great vid
Why do you people talk about tying the bait on with string and stuff, do you realize how freakin time consuming that would be when your actually fishing? Just because you dont want your shrimp to fall off, if you hook it right it wont come off unless its being swallowed by a fish
its not time consuming at all when u have a 8 - 10cm prawn. one small rubber band will leave the prawn able to walk around and ur hook sits perfectly. and with a prawn of that size the fish will tend to attack from behind, as i have been told by a number of fishermen from around here, because of the spike on the prawns head. perfect to catch barra. i cant wait for summer to come around so i can use live prawns.
why dont u place the hook using small rubber bands, but facing the other way? keeps it alive for much longer. easier with bigger prawns of course. fish will attack the prawn from the rear to avoid the spikes at the front im told. thats how people do it here anyway.
hooking it through the tail is more practical when your actually fishing. a fish wont attack from behind because of the spike, they will hit it from any direction to get it in there mouth.
You can do this but around where I live (South Florida) you would get everything taken but the tail 6 times out of 10. It should be noted that this type of rigging would work much better on the open ocean rather than the intracoastal; of course on the open ocean you would want a bigger hook and higher test mono too. So where are you using this type of rig to fish?
well that is why this video is called hooking a shrimp for live bait, live bait normally gets hooked differently to dead bait, and live bait normally works better, which is why so many people do it,
if i was trying for bass wat hook should i use and in that vid is that a small shrimp cos i got told that u should look for about 3 inch long.great vid really help ful
Gulp! Creme and Doa Shrimp are the best lures. Gulp must be kept wet, preferably in the GULP sulution or they get like a rock. Where are u fishing and what is ur target species?
I don't realy know what im doing, im going to Ibiza, Spain for a holiday so i thought i'd try some sea fishing so i sdon't know my target species either. Im buying the lures from Ebay i think there made of some rubbery plastic
I researched FISHING SPAIN on google and mainly the saltwater targets are EEls, European and Conger, as well as Salmon and Sea Run Trout, Sea Chubs, Morays, European Seabass, Haddock, Smooth Hound Sharks, Mackerel, Triggers, SeaBream, Mullet, Skates, Thornback Rays, "Herraras," Horse Mackerel, Sardines, Venomous Weaver Fish, Wrasse, Needlefish, Vaquita Wrasse, Scorpionfish. Use Prawns, Crabs, dead bait fish, clams. Try fishing from high sea cliffs but don't go alone as it can be dangerous.
well how about when people catch fish they can release it so it doesnt die, or maybe u can take it home if ur hungry and cook it! u people are debating over the most stupid shit ever! and sometimes fish die if u are unable to get the hook out fast enough, hey shit happens its not like commiting a murder!
wow! omg you faggots fish dont have nerves in their lips so when you hook them and take them out of the water its like going swimming underwater for humans so drop the subject
thank you!thats why in shallow water when fish are inactively hanging out you can hook a fish and let the line go slack. then they just sit there, hovering as if nothing ever happened. it's also why when i foul hook a fish i feel rlly bad cuz then they feel it. fish cn stay out of water lnger than humans in water cuz of their slimy skin which is mostly water
Unlike fish (who don't have nerves in their mouth) Shrimp, Crabs, Lobsters, Cephalopods, etc have nerves. That Shrimp is in pain. I never use livies, not even worms.
Actually, I have. Today. I caught a fish. I-took it out of the water! WOW! Guess you just surf the comment boards, looking for comments to try to call out. Whatever...
Seriously, you may not kill the fish but you hook it, then yankit out of the water to unhook it. Compared to the shrimp, I think the fish has more discomfort. Do you see the irony of your comments here? Thats all I am pointing out. You may think I am a dumbass, but everyone on you tube KNOWS you are one. Keep up the good work tiger...
It is better to hook the shrimp from the head through the cheek to the horn but away from brain, also use a lighter hook so that the shrimp can easily swim.Perfect for sea bass at our area in Alexandria, Egypt

TRUE FACT!
you dont need live shrimp to catch big fish,
raw dead fish found at local supermarkets work perfectly well,
it doesnt matter if its live or dead raw, as long as there's taste and smell, the fish will bite-

No, dude some fish don't take dead bait. i don't sea fish much so i'll compare largemouth bass to catfish.
Catfish: eats freaking everything
bass: eats only living stuff
