I met Jellybean in Miami in 2007 at the Winter Music Conference. He was the most cool, friendly, and open person you could meet and he looks like he hasn't aged in 30 years, real talk. Much respect JB!
Huge kudos to you for keeping the Jellybean 1979 interview from falling down the memory hole. As a teenager growing up in England in the 80s, tracks like Warp 9s 'Nunk' which he co-produced and 'The Mexican' (where he re-recorded the vocals of the Babe Ruth singer from the 1973 classic) were such seminal sonic moments as were countless other Jellybean productions such as his Fleetwood Mac remixes and dubs...he really doesnt get the kudos he deserves partly because of the whole Madonna episode!
later in life he did a cd that was pretty awesome. Used to have the cassette with Elisa Fiorilla (or something like that). If you are able to here it, it is pretty cool. God Bless.
he is also the mastermind producer behinde madonnas "celebration", "holiday", "borderline","lucky star", and also Siedah Garrets "Do You Want It Right Now?" A hell of a good producer and DJ. Credits to him also because he was a pioneer of the 12" Maxi Vinyls!
jellybean is the truth!..he gives once a month parties regularly at the sullivan room in nyc!!..and i must say i was hangin with him and took a few pics just last week with him!..he's such a sweetheart!
@Billie03 OOooo..really!! Hmmm...are they open to public or by invite only!? This guy is AMAZIINGLY brilliant..would love to go see what he plays now. RSvp..
I really enjoyed seeing this interview for the 1st time ever! Funny what he said about not being able to take requests, but I do understand his point. I probably wouldn't work out as a club DJ, since my philosophy when I'm DJing is... if someone requests a song that I have with me, I'll play it! (Even if it's from Sesame Street). Then again, I typically play restaurants, corporate events, and private parties, which is whole different atmosphere, and a whole different job than being a club DJ.
@pressston not gay, not blonde, not german, not japanese, who cares what he is, but a great musician and producer of some of the best dance tunes of the 80's ?
jellybean was the man i remember back in 1984 i bought the whole album the mexican,i later found out more about him but it,s all good the man a genius
It's funny how you get all these comments about gay this and gay that, Who really gives a fuck!!! What's up do think JB's cute or something? btw this dude has had Madonna's and countless other pussies so don't worry or wonder about him, CHECK YOUR SELF OUT FIRST!!!
Super-talented maybe (I preferred a guy out of Toronto in those days named Deadly Hedley), but Jellybean was a pain. He showed up too much in those vids. Steven Dante vid ... here comes Jellybean. Elisa Fiorillo vid ... here comes Jellybean. Tame your ego and let the performer have the damn video. Nobody watches a video to see the producer or dj or whatever he was.
Find it hard to believe it that this gay looking dude is a talented producer, he honed his talent during the electro funk era. He's on the same level with the likes of Arthur baker
not gay. smart business man that's made just as many dumbass moves as he has smart ones. has a longstanding reputation as a man that doesn't pay his bills.
great! strange to hear what JB had to say back then. if he only knew that musicians were gonna be all but gone and that music across the board was gonna go downhill lol
i know jellybean his my teachers brother im not kidding

@debbiechickie5 didn't know that!!! I could swear I've read it somewhere that he was the guy who started the 12" maxi vinyls custom made.
loopy20000 1 year ago
@debbiechickie5 Oh no- I have lots of them from old disco days. Maybe he made CUSTOM remixes...had them pressed individually or in small batches.
