i loved these films growing up my mother never missed a film so i watched also ..why dont they show them now, not just robin hood but captain blood etc
Forget his autobiography My Wicked Wicked Ways.....LAME compared to the biography ( if you can find it ) by Charles Higham...Errol Flynn: The Untold Story. Best book I've ever read. This dude was the ultimate hellraiser from the start. Every man wanted to be him & every woman to have him. A friggin' wildman! The Untold Story may be out of print now, but I had 3 copies at one time. I'd loan them out & they eventually vanished. Thick paperback packed with 4 lifetimes worth of adventure. A KING!
Anyone know that old pirate fim where two men are walking on the seabed in a boat? What's the name of the film? I think there was a speechless pirate that was the captains mate or somethink. Maybe they are two diferent films, if so tll me both, lol. thanks
@william999666 That was with Burt Lancaster, The Crimson Pirate. His partner wasn't really speechless but was Lancaster's acrobatic partner from when they were in the circus
Have to hand it to him -jumping around in tights and comes off as one of the ultimate masculine screen heroes... VERY few could ever pulled that off...
He was soooo gorgeous even by today's standards. Timelessly handsome.
He IS Robin Hood - there are no others!!!
Man I was born in the wrong era. Damn! I love the old time stars so much better... Vivien Leigh, Olivia D, Elizabeth Taylor. Monty Clift - so gorgeous and such a great actor. more the sensitive type..
I watch Errol Flynn whenever I need to see a real MAN onscreen!!! - and Gable.
Heck I prefer Redford, Newman & James Dean as well, to today's stars. ugh. anybody concur?
Great video and music. Read his autobiography! My Wicked, Wicked Ways... it's amazing, funny, outrageous, intelligent and surprisingly poignant. Errol Flynn was an original.
@WiltatKansas I can't get away from feeling that he was the very most handsome actor EVER. It's a hard and almost unfair call to make, but there was just something inimitably attractive about this guy. He was ideal...at least in some ways!
@hlaltimus well that was just what Ava Gardner wrote in her autobiography: My story. When Errol entered a room it was as if the light was turned on; and she added that he was probably the most beautiful man she ever saw, and with an amazing personality!
Excelente!
No one like Flynn . Gable, Power,Taylor,Reagan and his good friend Niven would all tell you that .. was a better actor than given credit for.. women AND men were charmed by his looks and manner. have heard many actresses of that time interviewed who stated he was the most beautiful man they had ever seen [e.g. Davis, De Havilland] ..lived life like few others with total disregard for conventionality Cost him his health and life A true legend! never be another! Thanks for posting
In reading a biography of Clark Gable, the author compared him with Flynn, and said Gable was really a tough guy, much bigger and stronger. But Flynn had athleticism, not brute strenght. You need agility, not brute strength to weild a sword. He had a great deal of charm, also. Not fair to compare them.
im almost done with my wicked, wicked ways. great book. My dad used to talk to his daughter in the 80's on the phone all the time, i was too young to remember why, My dad is dead no so i cant ask, i wonder why they talked. interesting.
Olivia de Havilland, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis (even though she disliked him) called Errol Flynn "The most beautiful man who ever lived" and they were absolutely right because he was Apollo reincarnated!!
@greg4161 That's true, both you and BaronMullholland are right, Errol was the most powerful star to ever reach the silver screen, he just was too much for the camera.
His father Theodore Flynn, a biologist and a university professor in both Tasmania and Ireland, was descended from the (O')Flynns an ancient Irish Gaelic family (Clan).
His name "Errol" is derived from a Scottish place name, of unknown meaning and his surname "Flynn" is derived from the Gaelic word "flann" which denotes a dull red colour and means "ruddy" when applied to persons.
Come, all you young men with your wicked wicked ways/sow your wild wild oats in your younger days/so that we may be happy when we grow old/Ah yes! Happy and happy when we grow old ... for the day's growing short, the night's coming on; well Darling -- Just gimme yer arm and we'll joggle' along/we'll joggle and joggle and joggle along.
Mr. Flynn, you never once joggled ... you shook the roof from its rafters. All us rakes love you. RIP, mate.
The Greek association football team "Apollon Smyrnis, Athens F.C." have gone since the 1930's under the nickname "The Light Brigade", named after "The Charge of the Light Brigade"(1936), starring Errol Flynn, after winning the 1938 regional Athens championship.
Harry Klynn,(pseudonym of Vassilis N. Triandafilidis), the most popular stand-up comedian in Greece, is an Errol Flynn fan.His pseudonym "Harry Klynn" is actually inspired by Errol Flynn.

I wonder if it's still there...*sigh*
today a guy at my gym (who's in his 70s) told me i look like Errol Flynn with my new moustache... so i thought id look him up. Im so flattered! but no where near as good lookin as this guy ;)
I concur, Zacatown. There wasn't a less inspiring swashbuckler than Costner's Robin Hood (Morgan Freeman carried that movie). Even Richard Greene as Robin Hood in that '50s-'60 tv serial had more pizzazz - and he didn't set the bar very high.

He was amazing. he came on to the scene like a shooting star!
Never before nor never gain will we see his like. He had a lot of
problems. But when he was on the silver screen he just looked
gorgeous...and he could ACT! He demanded your attention when
on screen. I was shocked to learn he never won an academy award!
I believe he was never even nominated! Come on! A HUGE oversight
by the Academy.
