  • This is one of my favorite B-rated films starring the late Richard Crenna. Would love to get my DVD signed by the remaining cast if possible :)

  • Most ships need bunker oil and bilge water. Blood from fish guts is normally thrown overboard, due to slipping hazards.

  • I own this on vhs. It's a good fun scary time. Love the art work that was made for this movie.

  • George Kennedy rules.

  • Either I haven't seen this or I have but I don't remember it.

  • @LovingEdGein Let us know when you find out, ok?

  • trying playing "I am one boat" together with this trailer...

  • @EuromanMovieReport lol we're so on the same level :D

  • @EuromanMovieReport You meant "I'm on a boat"?

  • one of the better scary ship movies...

  • I remember seeing this years ago. It was on TV late one night and everyone was talking about it the following day. That ships front looks like a mouth!

  • I saw this way back in the 90s on VHS. I loved it and must get the new DVD which was released. Is there a region 1 version too?

  • Should they have a remake in "Death Ship"? ("Ghost Ship" is not a remake.) Just tidy up the writing and plot, Get 2 or 3 - or more - quality actors in the cast, and use some state of the art special effects. Could there be some success?

  • @LuvThoseLadies

Nah, I say leave it as the cult classic that it is. Hollywood today would only manage to fuck it up.

I'll tell you where you can watch "The Changeling" in my response to your private message. They got George C. Scott for that one, so you know that, at the very least, the acting will be good.

  • This movie had both George Kennedy and Richard Crenna, who did their best to make a bad story a success. Didn't quite work, but we still remember it, and Ghost Ship is not a remake. The part I really hated is where george kennedy's character "killed" the naked and beautiful Victoria Burgoyne's character and then threw her over the rail and into the ocean.I was a young teenager when I snuck into the cinema, so I was really aroused up until the blood shower and her getting"killed"! I hated him!lol

  • @LuvThoseLadies

My wife remembers watching a Sunday afternoon airing of this one rainy day that her family's camp. She was way too young to put into context and had assumed that that is why she has always remembered this movie but it seems that it stuck with a lot of people.

  • @lesterclaypool1 lol OMG, why were they letting her watch that! lol It was a silly, ghost type paranormal story in it which meant reality was going to be out the window immediately. So it was already going to be dumb, but no more dumb than "cloverfield". That was nothing more than a "Godzilla" movie with a "blair witch project" twist. Geez, what are these producers thinking when they write that crap?

  • @LuvThoseLadies

I think they let her watch it for the very reason you gave: My inlaws figured that if it was Sunday afternoon it would just be a silly Godzilla type film. My wife realizes, now, that it was the Nazi references that scared her, moreso than any of the action.

There were a lot of low budget thrillers that came out of Canada at the time, and why not? You could make a movie for a fraction of what it cost in the US and sometimes you hit on something great like "The Changeling".

  • @lesterclaypool1 Yeah, you are right, they do hit on some success with low-budget movies."Jaws" was a movie that didn't exhaust a lot of effort with money, but it was a HUGE success.Of course, having Roy Scheider,Richard Dreyfuss, and the late great Robert Shaw on the cast was most of the attribute to it's success.I know they must have exhausted a ton of money of "cloverfield" and in the promoting of "blair witch...", but both were STUPID! You have me wanting to see "Changeling" now!

  • shit boring...

  • @PriusRider Fuck off.

  • watch full edition with the following film here on avatz (dot) net change (dot) to .

  • oldie but goodie!!!!!!!

  • I used to watch this movie all the time on HBO. It scared the crap out of me.

  • Now that's how you do a ghost ship film! Unlike a similar 2002 film that was crap and shall remain nameless (cough! Ghost Ship! cough!)

  • Looks like the USS Cyclops

  • @silvereagle2061

It was a Canadian "tax shelter" movie, though, so I can't see them filming on a US boat.

  • damn death ship that needs blood, god dammit!

  • Scared the socks off of me!

  • This movie was horrible and chessy!

  • @TudorRose85 No it wasn't, it was eerie and suspenseful. Terrifying.

  • Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide has the funniest review for this film.

  • I love this trailer.

  • good scary movie

  • Ghost ship and Triangle are movies alike if you want creepy boat movies ;)

  • those pesky nazis

  • I'v just started to upload the whole movie

  • Scary movie! Thats for sure

  • seen this when it came out i was 10 and it scared the piss out of me.the second is better thow.

  • They remade this movie? Is the remake Ghost Ship?

  • i guess it may be becasue i was not born yet when this was released, but this film looks terrible, i am defi' a fan ghost ship more than this

  • @freddyscandyman but Ghostship was crap mate. Death Ship is awesome.

  • I love this film, it's very scary. I saw it in 1990 and have wanted it ever since. There is a great region 2 version which has just been released and I highly recommend picking it up if you haven't seen it.

  • I remember borrowing this movie from my local neighborhood video store in the very early 1990s. I kinda remember it somewhat but i do remember i liked it alot & it became one of my favorite horror movies.

  • Elvira did a good job of it for the common man

  • @RightWingDown

    Elvira...mmmmm. Good times, good times.

  • This is one of my favorite movies. It's a pleasure to see the early works of Saul Rubinek and the late Richard Crenna. The special effects were quite good for its time and the plot is timeless and has been reworked in many other movies.

    I highly recommend this movie.

  • scary ship!!!..lol

  • Didn't they remake this?

  • Yes they remade this movie several years ago. But i definitely prefer the original version from 1980.

  • @Starsky5000 huh what remake? i know your not tlking about ghostship?

  • @Starsky5000 if you're thinking of Ghost Ship 2002 it isn't a remake of this, but I can see why you would think that, they are similar, despite the different titles, it's just this one is good, and the 2002 film is crap. There is a 1952 film called 'Ghost Ship'...but the 2002 film isn't even a remake of that

  • I love this. Can you please post the whole film?

  • Wow,a lot of horror films came out this year. This looks like a pretty good film. I'll have 2 watch it sometime.

  • I COMMIT UR MOM TO THA DEEP

  • creepy trailer

  • I had heard rumours that the 'death ship' was actually either the former HMCS Cape Scott or HMCS Cape Breton, does anyone know? - or is the assumption that someone from the RCN who would know would probably deny that he had any knowledge of this stinky film? :D

  • The "Death Ship" has an aft superstructure and looks to be fifties vintage- too new to be a nazi ship, of course- and the ships you mention have the superstructure- bridge, etc., amidships, so its unlikely. Makes me wonder, though- just what ship WAS used as the "Death Ship", and where is it now?

  • @PlanBModels

I don't think that the HMCS Cape Breton had the superstructure amidship.

It had also been decomissioned to the position of a floating machine shop by the time that this movie was made so it could be a candidate.

  • @lesterclaypool1 HMCS Cape Breton was a beautiful ship, to be sure, but I've never seen a picture of her with an aft superstructure, only amidships, and I'm sure whatever ship played the "Death Ship" was used "as-is," except for buckets of black paint and some steel plating welded over the vessel's name at the bow & stern. I'm still curious what became of the "death ship," whether it was scrapped in Asia, sunk as a reef, or is still afloat somewhere.

  • @PlanBModels

Yes, you're right. I double checked after I posted the comment. Not many pictures of her online, but there's enough to see that it isn't this ship.

You'd think that some naval nut would have made the connection, there's enough of us out there?

Just for shits and giggles I'm going to call out to the Canadian Maritime Museums in BC and NS on Monday to see if anyone there has any info. I'll be sure to let you know if I find out anything.
