jim was taking them to hell - gene was giving them a go-between with his world where eventually if they wished too (or indeed remembered) wud go into 'the pub' on their way to heaven! either way u look at it guys - they are indeed dead when they have the 2 choices. same died but as he stepped into the pub (remember gene said the last thing sam did was go to the pub) ..he went to heaven too. sad but clever ending - far better than the yanks version of what it was all about!!
