i use oil drip hydraulics and tape on my toms and they sound amazing, because when you record most of your tom hits will be compressed anyways

so with those heads and a piece of rolled up duct tape i have studio toms that sound great

ive found that painters tape works better than duct tape and if you ever decide to take the tape off it doesnt leave shit on the head like duct tape does

dude if you want your toms to stop sounding like dick, get some remo pinstripes. i find it hard not to get a great sound out of those heads. its like they were made for metal. no tape either. if you need to control the overtones, get some moongel. it looks more legit than tape.

you tape em to take away the overtones, the ring is still there if you don't overdo it. one bit usually is enough. though it's always best to just buy moongels. moongels makes the awesome ring stay and the annoying overtone stuff is taken away. makes the sound amazing

@nonhasthisusername Toms aren't supposed to ring. Now about the cymbals, I don't know, I've never taped mine. But taping toms and snares is normal, sometimes the heads are just too ringy, which is common in the clear heads because they have a lot more movement than the coated. Can't tell what heads he has on his toms. But, they don't have a "ring" ring, which controls that.
