Wow I really like all those Seed Vault/bank iniatives. Sony887 has a point but. Nature makes varieties for a reason. Some are better for, cold, frost, heat, drought, humidity, interaction with certain birds, animals and insects. Some species of plants and animals are even interdependant. It's like a big spiderweb. So IMO every seed is important if we want to preserve the biodiversity of all life on the planet. Or perhaps go with all that to another planet ^^
I guess whatever disaster happens these seeds will survive. As will some humans. 1 % of the app. world pop. is still 70 mill people. Chances are that eventually someone will find these banks within 18000 years ^^ and rebuilt civ. So the idea is not stupid it's smart.
