Dale Earnhardt did a flip like that at the 1997 Daytona 500 with 10 laps to go and drove it back to pit road trying to make the last 10 laps. Search "1997 Daytona 500 - Dale Earnhardt Flip : for the 6:31 min/sec clip.
Beautiful car. Just turning the wheels in the direction of the slide, would've avoided needing a new top. If the driver couldn't keep the nose pointed at the finish line during the burnout, I'd hate to see what happens when the car gets tail happy further down the track.
@tripleJ1955 It was the track conditions. It was slick and had just sprinkled a little bit earlier in the day. He make some really beautiful runs when the track conditions are right.
Not a double AA car, but a B/gas racecar. I witnessed the incident from the starting line. I was glad to hear that he was OK. Armstrong Racing Alumni. Life member!!.

No, he was done for the day. The car had body damage, needed lots of TLC. I don't recall seeing the car for the rest of the 2010 season.

This is my husband. He is okay, and we have found a new roof and parts to piece it back together.

Man! I'm glad he's ok. The car can be fixed, but it's hard to replace a friend.
On the bottom pan of my FED, it says "If you can read this i screwed up" No one has seen it yet. And i hope they never do.
