  • Why did she perform so poorly?

  • @Punk5Rock Because of the pressure.USSR used Olympic medals to proove the superiority of their politics.Gymnasts were forced to do dangerous routines, were overworked, injured. An example is worlds champion Elena Mukhina. They pushed her beyond limits, causing her many injuries. When she was forced to practice one of the most dangerous saltos with unhealed broken leg,she broke her neck. Her first thought after the injury(leaving her permanently paralysed)was"Thank god,I dont have to go to the Olympics"

  • @Raymoiful I see, thank you for replying.

  • I hate it when Comaneci gets ALL of the attention. just because she was the first, doesn't mean she should get all of the attention. What if Daniela Silivas competed before her? She got seven perfect 10s to....

  • Olga was the best on this routine. She was revolutionairy, gracious en technically perfect. This was the beginning of my love for the Sovjet gymnastics What a shame it all ended in 1991. Great tragidy in history of mankind!!! Long live the Sovjet-Union! And it's sports.

  • There is something weird with that. It is not normal at all that Korbut failed thrice in this routine. Especially taking into account that she was, with her brand new exercises and hability, the best-placed gymnast to win the AA gold medal. Tourischeva, Lazakovich and Janz were fabulous, but in Munich'72 Korbut was like Nadia Comanecci in Montreal'76.

  • @norgodian Korbut was NOTHING like Comaneci. Nadia was , and still is the best gymnast the sport will ever produced.

  • @ahrensgay I have to completely disagree with you. You can have your opinion of who is the best gymnast I am not going to try to persuade you but to say Olga was nothing compared to Nadia is just wrong. Her spunk and flair combined with never before seen breath taking, daring, original skills was like nothing the sport of gymnastics had ever seen before. She catapulted herself and gymnastics to fame overnight. Nadia built on the foundation Olga created. Olga was, and is, absolutely incredible.

  • @ahrensgay who are you to judge who is the best gymnast the sport has ever produced. That is an opinion, and Korbut was nothing like comaneci, but that does not mean she was worse. She is one olympics games changed the course of the sport. Without Korbut, Nadia might have not been the gymnast that she was.

  • Definitely the saddest moment in gymnastics history =(( She was the best gymnast at those Olympics though, she didn't need the AA title to prove that.

  • the book says she fell. on the skill at 0:19

  • y did they cut it out?

  • Yes...........its hard to watch..........especially after all the good work she did..........heart breaking.

  • wow. I feel sorry that she didn't win the all-around but I think that because she fell and cried she captivated the hearts of millions around the world and boosted popularity of the sport. Happy endings anyway, she won three golds and one silver in that Olympics :)

  • The audience actually held up the competition (for 45 minutes) in the individual event after she was placed second on the uneven bars. She then was placed first in the remaining individual events (beam and floor)

  • soo sad! :(

  • speechless

can't believe that she messed up 3 times!!

  • sad:(

  • sad. very sad.
