Well, this song came out quite a while ago. I remember listening to this when I was 13, and that was four years ago..plus, she was very young when she wrote this.
Wikipedia says Aselin's dropped out of the public view since this album. Well, celebrity can be a damning experience (adolescence ain't all that easy, either.) I hope her fans understand and give her space to be and become. Meanwhile, I celebrate the fact that she's actually back in the public eye, having joined YouTube this summer and posted her videos.
I don't get the complaints! The sound here blazes a bright path - Dixie Chicks come to mind! The lyrics aren't bad either - sentiments that are probably widely shared. From all I see and hear of her work I believe there's a force from beyond delighting its way through her life. I suspect we're going to continue to be moved and amazed by her creations - things unique and glorious to come. Cherish the gift - would that Soraya and Eva Cassidy were still with us.
Sorry - one huge correction. I said the lyrics were 'sentiments that are probably widely shared.' Misled by the video, I thought this merely was a relationship song.
Now that I've actually *read* the words, I see it's much more anthemic, more in keeping, indeed, with Dixie Chick-like themes, and other strong statements of personal identity, strength, and purpose.
Were I that age now, songs like this would be as important to me as Joni's & Jackson's were back then, circa 68-74.
I have to say more, personaly. The soul beyond those eyes and in the sweetness of that voice is so beautyfull, that I must say I'll be in extreme awe to anything she sings.
It seems she wants to say things about her routine, her world. You can behold the deals teenagers usually live, upon the videos and lyrics. The change to a more pop/rock stile may be an attempt to speak the language of the people of her age, of her world. She is in the age of findind her identity, that's why sometimes it's hard to find herself in those masks of teen popstar on those "bigger than me" clips. She'll find herself. I know that!
yeah the celtic was a cool sound. But as we grow up we do whats popular for a while. then relise that the main stream does not always pay. Her pop music sounds good. but at our station we have hundreds of pop music that all sounds that same. The celtic was new sounding even if they where classics type songs. But I guess this sound sells more.

By the way, I think the video is great, too. It reminds me of that wonderful heart-breaking one by Phil Collins - "Do you Remember?"

I liked her more celtic style sound but she's got a great voice and she's probably going places in Canadian pop music.
