Dont blame him. I dont like the guy, but no one held a gun to anyones head when they were buying a house they couldnt afford. Everything was there in black and white, and many were just too lazy to read/understand what they were getting into. A fool and their money......
While I have no sympathy for bubble buyers, I do blame this guy. He's a lying asshole. He hides behind his economic credentials and uses them for complete propaganda purposes. Oh, and when you say "many were too lazy to read," what about those that READ his book and followed his terrible advice???
I'd love to know what he's since done with all those Florida condos he supposedly owned. I'd bet the farm he was dumping em at the same time he was screaming for everyone else to buy buy buy. Anyone who understands Econ 101 could see we were in an obvious enormous housing bubble, and Lereah knew it too. He was simply LYING for a living and willfully destroying lives with those lies.
David Lereah is the same guy who wrote a book in spring of 2000 on getting rich in the new information economy wherein he encourages people to pour their savings into tech stocks, he of course does this right AS THE TECH BUBBLE IS POPPING. 6 Years later he does the exact same thing with the RE Bubble. Has any economist ever been MORE WRONG on the 2 biggest economic trends of this young century? Has any hurt more people with his dumbshit predictions?
Lereah is the most unethical, sleaziest, lying scumbags in America. He has gotten rich by doing nothing but intentionally spreading disinformation and lies as a shameless shill bought and paid for by the RE Industry. And far too many American families have had their lives destroyed because they were foolishly naive enought to listen to him. He's every bit the snake those Enron dudes sitting in prison were.
Let's face it. This is the mouthpiece for the National Association of Realtors. As such, he is paid to say nothing but positive spin on the housing situation. The American media, however, has been acting as a conduit for his spew for years. He rushed his books into publication just at the top of the bubble so that he could pocket a few more million at the expense of americans. I'll bet he's sold his florida condos long ago and cashed in.
What a loathsome parasite of a man! Typical vested interest real estate scum, hyping the market up just to keep the bubble growing and sell his book. Property market won't crash? Well its crashing now isn't it!
It's a new paradigm, and everybody who doesn't buy, now, will be priced out forever. Anybody who does buy will be rewarded with a lifetime of riches, as their property will continue its 30% yearly price increase.
Renters, and anybody born in a future generation, will not be able to afford a $10,000,000 starter home in 15 years. They will live in tent cities, and Hondas.
This asset bubble is different than all of the others - it will never slow down, or pop. The gains are permanent.
Great stuff, here's a review of his book from Amazon.com at the peak of the bubble.
"...this Author backs his assessment with real facts, that quite frankly, set my mind at ease and even may have even motivated me to invest in some more property! Thank you for your efforts Mr. Lereah!! This was money well spent!!!!"
HAHA what a LOSER!!
