@paspasas Well, it's more complicated. Macedionians admired the Greek culture, but were NOT Greek. They were considered as barbarians by the Greek, which means they didn't speak the same language, except for the rich people. They did have some dialect probably close to Greek.
And Alexander didn't conquer the Greeks, his father did it for him. But the only reason it was possible was because the Greeks weren't united. But even Alexander didn't try to conquer Sparta.

I agree with Ivanlagrossemoule in that the Macedonians were similar in culture to the greeks but they weren't Greeks. I mean before Phillips II reforms of the Macedonian army they were no different from the Illyrians militarily speaking.

And, of course, you make a great mistake when you say that Macedonia has nothing to do with Greece. Until the 20th century, the name Macedonia/Macedonian was always used for a Greek or Roman (Byzantine) from the territory of Macedonia.
