GOOFY! POPEYE IS A JERK IN THIS TOON. He's full of himself, plays games with the flowers he brought; wants Olive to ask him to marry her - she's honest and says she loves another... then Popeye pulls the rug from under Olive, repeatedly, as she goes to let Bill in. Popeye trashes the lovers departure/relationship, and Olive's apartment.... he blows Bill away with a brutal punch; then gets what he implied he wanted from Olive, then he doesn't want it. Popeye the "hoe" to his own ego!!

Olive only wanted to be with him at the end because he proved he was stronger than Bill. In this episode she doesn't care about WHO she is with, just that they are the strongest. In her own words "There goes the Navy! But still there's the army!"

Granted, Popeye's words at the end of the cartoon were a tad harsh, he tried to say that all women were the same and they'll just leave you like she did Barnacle Bill. Obviously that's not true, as every human being is different-

The show itself is actually quite sexist as a result. It always portrays Olive as a dumb girl who fawns over every guy. Which is unfortunate, considering how entertaining Popeye's antics usually are.

If Olive would just ONCE portray some sort of faithfulness to Popeye when they're dating then I would have enjoyed her character a lot more. But they really made her into a sexist character.
