This is George Michael's career defining moment. When I think of him, I think of this first. If he can sing and perform like this, one can only ask what he has been doing with the rest of career. A great singer regularly bent in the service of second rate material. This is an inspired performance.
When George sang this song that day, it was scary how much he sounded like Freddie. Though his musical style is more R & B, he would have been the perfect choice for a new vocalist for the band. Unfortunately, they ended up with friggin' Paul Rodgers! SERIOUSLY??? What a joke!.. Oh yeah, and just for the record, "Queen" ceased to exist when Freddie died. Why they continue calling themselves Queen when two members are missing is a mystery to me.
He does fine justice to the vocals and the showmanship that Freddie Mercury would have loved. I have always felt that his voice was under-rated compared to his "teeny-bopper" sex appeal in the 80s. George has a FANTASTIC voice and this what we should see more of.

Freddie was the best SCREAMER, not singer. There's a difference. Also, George was absolutely bombed on pot for this performance, as he was for all the best ones... Something's gotta give you the edge, right?
This is a powerful song and it's fucking awesome to hear George Michael sing it. He is an amazing singer and I don't give one shit what people say about him or what his personal life is. I love his singing.
I can watch this over and over again. I'm always as stunned as hearing and watching it for the first time. His performance is just so unbelievably great.
The fact the he and we compares/compare George to Freddie and Freddie's performance of this song........speaks VOLUMES for Freddie Mercury.....does it not ???? :D :D
I wonder why George never went to get a more FORMAL MUSIC EDUCATION like Freddie did.......or ? Didn't Freddie attend Juliard or something ? Sorry....I obviously need to read FM's bio. :p
fukin amazing george couldn't hit freddies notes so he lowere then a key if nebody else can actually play instruments they wud understand how fantastic this is
Someone said "George couldn't hit Freddie's notes". Freddie couldn't hit Freddie's notes outside of the studio. Freddie was an amazing studio artist, but didn't have the best live vocals. Watch any live Queen video on here and you can see the difference. I miss Freddie too, but the truth is George really nailed this song.
His voice is amazing and classic, he has the soul that is almost non-existant in the current music we hear. This kind of sound can only come from someone with pure untouched talent.
J/K...i remember watching this vid when I was in high school. I also learned to play it on piano...sorta. It's a commanding song. Very, very tough to perform. Mercury was a genius...and GM rocked the hell out of this song. Thanks for favoriting it, airrick.
He was the only one who came close that day......respect

He can sing well, but it may be better to keep his own repertoire ;)

a singer's personal life is his business, GM and Queen were awesome!

Given GM's extra curricular activities regarding love, hes singing about something he really knows about. And it shows. Good on you George M.

Go to Live At The Bowl. Freddie was the best ever singing this song. He did not have an orchestra or choir, to help him out.
