I'm from Brazil and about 45-50% of the population here is Black/and or Bi-racial (Black mixed with indian/or white) so we do have similar bonds with African-Americans because we went through the same history. Believe it or not there were more slaves shipped to Brazil then in the U.S.

Even Tuskegee University? Or maybe because he hated Booker T Washington, he was too proud to work there even if it did mean the education of blacks. Not many qualified and over-qualified blacks could find work back then. By not forcing inclusion, Washington practically had money shoved down his undies by white tycoons to start schools. DuBois resented that and later died in Ghana in exile for being a suspected communist and thinking Lenin was a genius. He did join the Communist party in 1961.
Washington wanted to integrate, but after we had established ourselves as an undisputable entity that the world could not help but recognize whites as hating and discriminating our people despite our agricultural, industrial, and economic success. The reason it's next to impossible to make a comparison of racism towards Asians or Mexicans to the racism of black people is because of the despicable and sinful treatment blacks had to endure for hundreds of years. I'm from Brazil and about 45-50% of the population here is Black/and or Bi-racial (Black mixed with indian/or white) so we do have similar bonds with African-Americans because we went through the same history. Believe it or not there were more slaves shipped to Brazil then in the U.S.

Even Tuskegee University? Or maybe because he hated Booker T Washington, he was too proud to work there even if it did mean the education of blacks. Not many qualified and over-qualified blacks could find work back then. By not forcing inclusion, Washington practically had money shoved down his undies by white tycoons to start schools. DuBois resented that and later died in Ghana in exile for being a suspected communist and thinking Lenin was a genius. He did join the Communist party in 1961.

Booker represents the black ideal that if we better ourselves as individuals, then can succeed regardless of racists attitudes around us. The reason it's next to impossible to make a comparison of racism towards Asians or Mexicans to the racism of black people is because of the despicable and sinful treatment blacks had to endure for hundreds of years. Slavery is quite possibly the biggest crime in recent history and a lot of racist attitudes are still held to this day. I want to go to Stanford someday. This is such a wonderful lecture, I respect this persons ideals and intellectual values but I see a break in your logic. I understand in the history of our country negros or blacks undertook great hardships. But as we enter the 21st Century we have to revisit this sterotype that minorities have it more difficult. This sterotype needs to stop entirely, if you keep trying to make this statement you in essence want complete control of people's ideas and thoughts.

Not from you anywhere, after all, it is not all about skin colour, it is about the fact that some humans are so stupid that they think not being black is an added advantage! Black people are not looking for freedom, after black dogs and cats have no problem with white or brown ones. I guess people like you have serious issues to deal with, colour colour! It is not the colour that is most important, it is what comes out of the inside!

The reason why Black people talk about our past of slaverly so it can never happen again. People died so we could become free and respectable citizens. My third great uncle Father Augustus Tolton was a slave and became America's first known Black Catholic priest. I wrote a book on his life.
