  • ... i guess some sort of eye wear is a requirement because of risk of bee strike :)

  • so cool! looks like fun, must be great feeling the wind and just having nothing around you when youre up there, no cockpit. Ive seen gliders like this in the aviation museum here in Helsinki, at first i thought lol u must be mad to go up in one like that but then again what do i know, have never flown in a glider. Again looks so cool and fun !! thx for upload.

  • Good job bro! Awesome flying

  • no helmet?! you are one crazy viking

  • @kaschtnsamtdiekarbln well i suppose if u were gona fall out of it helame isnt gona be much good to ya id have felt safer with a paracute even in closed cockpits i wear one

  • Way cool! Very nice without any backround sound.

  • Very very short "roll out" during landing. Those old skids really work good. :)

  • @nestofdragons Not good an gravel though... :)

  • there is a vortex on his head

  • You sir, are a stud.

  • there is a vortex on pilots head at 1:00.

  • I can't believe that the pilot is flying without helmet!? Safety first!! Second must have radio!

  • Fantastic! I remember having a model glider when I was a kid but never knew it was a scale model of the full-size aircraft! Flying this looks to have the appeal of hang-gliding, but with the benefit of 3 axis control. Are these gliders still manufactured or available in kits? Great footage too - makes me want to get back into the air after many years out of hang gliding. I'm guessing it's L:D is not great but it would have to appeal for open cockpit feel and cost. How are they in a thermal?

  • @ethelthefrog60 Unfortunately, these are long since out of production. Originally a german design from 1938, but this individual is a bit more recent (from 1944). L:D is 10 at best, I managed to get 8 out of it.

I didn't get to try her out in thermals, we only flew in calm evenings..

  • @ethelthefrog60 Check out GOAT Gliders !!! I to started in Sailplanes Went to Hangliders , but wanted something in-between ... I found it 20years latter GOAT Gliders !

  • @BudMantheyBand Awesome, thank you! They look the bee's knees in gliding if you ask me. Fun, portable and 3 axis control.

  • ive watched TONS of glider vids, and this has to be the best. Good job, and i watch this OVER and OVER all the time. Keep up the good landings, too. This is aj the 11yearoldpilot, and i approve this message.

  • @11yearoldpilot Thanks for the kind words, I was quite satisfied with that landing :)

  • This is the coolest glider vid I've seen in a long time. Great job piloting.

  • Thats incredible!

  • Look's like fun i did it with the swift the swift is fun too but u need a lot of wind to fly it so! =D

  • I'v done the cessnas-Grobs-ag cats rv7S-be76-ASK 21

----- BUT that looks like FUN!!!...----

  • Haha, I like the waving at 2:21

  • How you check your speed is that?, for avoid stall.

  • @onelix86 Just listen! If it is noisy its going fast, if it is silent it will stall soon :)

  • That has just got to be so much fun. Thanks for uploading this video.

  • really amazing to watch !

  • I wanna build & fly one of these!! Plans?!?!

  • como e esse glider, onde posso ver imagens. how can I see pictures of that glider please

  • @gregoriobarros Just google "SG-38" and you'll find heaps of pictures!

  • Must be a verry special feeling to fly with this thing!

  • Daumen Hoch ! aber ohne Helm?

  • This was really nice to watch. Do you have any instruments on board?

  • @Zootrom Only my ears. It its loud, I'm going too fast :)

  • You should get some steempunk googles and clothes!

And as a paraglider pilot I don't think it looks scary at all.

  • I would not have the guts to fly one of those. As safe as they are the lack of an enclosed cockpit always scares me.

  • @halfblindwriter I'd almost say they are safer. They are less complicated and don't fly as fast as more streamlined planes. It's just a bit scary to look down :)

  • Cool, this is the first time I have seen one of these old trainers winch launched. Usually they are just pushed down a hill and they are in the air for only a few seconds.

  • too much fun. awesome video thx

  • dude that is so cool i wish i had the nuts well i do but not for that , have you had any flight lessons or just winging it?

  • @waynehere I've had a lot of flight lessons over the years. To fly this plane, all that is required is a gliders license and a few years of experience.

  • Okay, you're not an idiot for flying that, idiots can't fly, you're just downright mad to get in it.

  • @Avatar230594 Which is why I wanna have a go.

  • @Avatar230594 Nahh, not really mad I'd say. It is just as safe as any other airplane. A lot less can go wrong than in a modern jetcraft...

  • is this glider homemade??if it is, is it legal??Also do you have a pilot license??

really nice video by the way!!!

  • @kgeorgejunior It was built as a kit in 1944 and it is still compleately airworthy. Totally legal to fly as long as you have a licence (which I do...)

  • who is that, he looks just like my brother and he is a glider pilot?

  • Really nice video. Thankyou.

  • ok...

  • Fantastic fun flying

  • super cool video....you are right out there in it....

  • Thats looks really fun.. One thing I am surprised that you were aloud up without a helmet..

  • fährst du fahrrad oder fliegt du flugzeug ?

  • it won't be long before small powerful jet engines become cheaply availible to the public for gliders and pressurized cockpits even. You could fly around the world on one of these things if you really wanted to using engine and thermals combined

  • stick n fab glider,...well I know all about this, and you have found true flight in its purest form!! Never forget this ,as im waaay older than you and this is the realest feeling you can get, GIVE IT TO THE YOUNG WORLD! starting with you, since you experienced it..

  • Wow!! That is so cool! Where do you stick the piece of string? haha

  • a beautiful thing

  • what kind of altitude are you getting off that winch. will thermals keep that glider up?

  • @framed30 I got up to about 200 m (650 ft). Thermals would keep me up if there were any, but we flew in the evening when the air was calm.

  • Awesome vid! Great landing!

  • Thanks for your reply...

keep good flying...and the good videos

    besr regards

  • Congratulations ! Nice flight, nice video. I have a question : why so much control inputs ? How do you have a clue of speed without an airspeed indicator ?

    keep flying well !

  • Thanks! The amount of control input is because of low airspeed and small control surfaces. Also, since it was only my third flight, I was quite nervous.

Your ears are basically used as airspeed indicator. The noisier it is the faster you go.

  • Fan va kul det ser ut :D
