Nixon got his arse handed to him by one of the greatest talkshow hosts in British history history. So not a great deal of imagination needed, considering Frost's and Nixon's reputations.
Dear me! Politics certainly need to return to decent feuds, assassinations and civil wars! If there wouldn’t have been the Ides of March, the civil war between Anthony and Octavian, the Wars of the Roses or the rebellions against Henry IV but such nonsense instead maybe Shakespeare would have to write his plays about such boring things. So Monsieur Peter Morgan should try to write plays about more heroic and tragic events in history! How about Lady Jane Grey or Queen Isabella?
What's with the people saying it wasn't dramatic enough? I'm not even American and I was thrilled while watching this movie, from the first minute to the very last. The tension just never let me go.
It saddened me to learn that Nixon was so troubled and lonely. Despite his actions, I really felt for him at the end of this film. What a compelling piece of cinema.
@smachohalla He's asking him, "Did you do any fornicating?" Meaning, did he have sex with anyone the night before. It's obviously a jarring question to be asked by a complete stranger right before the cameras start rolling, not to mention rude and extremely out of place. The context in the film was not for Frost to answer it, but just be frazzled enough right before the interviews start that he looked unprepared.
It's too bad that this film, like 1995's Nixon, was not accurate. "When the President does it, it's not illegal" was not said in regard to Watergate and was used in the complete wrong context in the film. Drunk Nixon spilling details to Frost late at night? Never happened. Frost cornering Nixon into admitting guilt? Never happened.
By far my favorite movie of 2008. It's total bullshit that Langella and Sheen lost out on the Academy Award to Sean Penn's performance in Milk, in my opinion. Not to mention Frost/Nixon a way better movie.
@SeFu2006 i watched just now I too tought it would be dull as hell.I watched through without moving.I was totally consumed by the entire stor. This was well executed.
Great recreation of a pivitol moment in history handled with the usual assurance by Ron Howard. The performances from Langella and Sheen are outstanding. An instant classic.
This should of one picture of the year. I liked Slumdog, but this was far better and far more serious. Granted I still feel the Dark Knight was the best film that came out that year.
I liked Slumdog, but no way did it deserve picture of the year. And if it wasn't for Slumdog we would of had Milk win. They can't give it to a film that just makes you love cinema and doesn't have to make a political statement.
Funny; I remember watching a movie review show on t.v. ("At The Movies', perhaps?), and I recall some critic mentioning how Christian Bale islike Michael Corleone in "The Godfather Part #:2". My sentiments exactly. There is no doubt that this movie was, by far, the most-liked movie of all of 2008. There is NO reasonable excuse at all, whatsoever as to why this couldn't have won the "Best Picture" Oscar.
Christian bale was Michael Corleone and no offense to Robert Deniro he did a fantastic job,but the Ledger as the Joker was perhaps the best performances in the history of cinema. Slumdog,Frost, and Milk were good, but they can't even compare to the Dark Knight when it came to acting, style, music, camera work, and story. To those who say it was all effects there dead wrong. Just look at the Joker and how they used his insanity to just turn the story into something that questions the way we think.
It's a good movie don't get me wrong, but Heath Ledger's performance is kind of overrated. Brad Pitt pretty much played the same role 10 years ago in Fight Club. Personally, I think that movie took those ideas much further and gave them more depth than the Dark Knight did (or could have). With that said, it's still a great spin on the Joker character.
My. Sentiments Exactly. Lol. I definitely agree with you. On everything, lol. "The Dark Knight" was a genuine masterpiece. If you look it up on wikipedia, and you read what it has to say at the bottom of the page about it's theme, it says that its' "escalation". With that score, they could not have possibly emphasized that theme in any better way at all, whatsoever, especially on the part when you see everything fatal happen during Harvey Dent's fundraiser at Wayne Manor. Pure classic.
god that film is awful, I couldn't take it seriously, rubbish wigs, rubbish sideburns and the guy who plays Nixon is unwatchable, you can't believe he's Nixon at all ... I'd rather watch the original interview than watch that crap film. reconstitution wise Milk was way better!
